Nirvana butchering their song on purpose reminds me of when I went to an early Mastodon show at a festival and they started singing the lyrics to half the songs from Leviathan in South Park impressions. The crowd loved it.

I really love this phenomenon. It's so odd, but it feels right at the same time. I hope people keep doing this with more rock bands like Soundgarden or Pearl Jam or even different sound fonts like the Zelda 64 games

I think part of the enjoyment for me is that the game and music they’re using came out in the mid90s for the most part. If you had a n64 and liked rock in the 90s you probably liked both.

@@scott963 don’t worry with my music tastes everyone says I sound like a 50 year old, I’m 27. Even though I do like a lot of 90s-early 00s music too. I work with a guy in his 60s and he keeps asking me how I’m even finding these bands he hasn’t thought about in 30-40 years.

Honestly, listening to Vinny gush about who is in my opinion one of the greatest vocalists of all time to Mario renditions is really nice...
God I love AiC. Saw them live a few months back, even with the new guy and sound they were just perfect live. Absolutely insane musicians, and SO LOUD too. I go to metalcore/beatdown shows that aren't as loud as they were, pretty nuts.
They were fantastic. Great setlist too! Breaking Benjamin played before them and I can't say I'm a fan of them but they also put on a pretty great show

Video games are actually what introduced me to Nirvana, Breed was one of the songs they had on Guitar Hero: On Tour. That crusty 32kbps MP3 of Kurt Cobain screaming "We can plant a house, we can built a tree" coming out of my DS speakers left quite the impression to 7yo me.

When I was 9, my mom got her first phone with a toucsreen for her birthday, and there was a java version of guitar hero on it. I remember this song was my favorite there. It was the last one on the list and the only one where she couldn't beat my high score :)

I'm a Washington native you think I'd listen to them way sooner but no, for most of my life up until last year (I'm 27 going on 28 in July), the only song I really knew of theirs was Smells Like Teen Spirit. I was listening to the discography of several artists and bands last year and I decided why not make Nirvana one of them. Now i regularly listen several of their songs besides Teen Spirit (think my favorite is All Apologies, have a soft spot for Dumb though, and love their Man Who Sold the World cover)

For grunge music or older prog rock tunes, it could be done, but the soundfont lacks high note for guitar

Hell yeah, I love this kind of stuff, I haven't listened to too many SM64 soundfont covers but I've listened to a full 2100 track playlist on RUclips for SMW soundfont covers.
I'm working on one of these for The Mollusk by Ween, I just hope nobody beats me to it before I finish it lol

I really enjoyed this video Vinny. I loved Nirvana in grade school and middle school and still do to this day. To me, it was one of the first time I listened to a band where the music made me the feel the anger and sadness expressed in me perfectly through music.
Alice In Chains works perfectly in Mario 64 form.

He has been bringing them up actually inbetween stream segments. To my knowledge the Radiohead remixes were among the first of this trend, seems like it's expanding.

I relate hard to your story about hearing the wrong "smells like teen spirit". First time i heard it it was actually a mashup with "Never Gonna Give You Up" vocals. Thought it sucked and didn't touch nirvana for another couple of years.

I’m glad this broke through. I remember first getting into these about 3 years ago and really wanting to hear Dirt and Jar of Flies in Mario 64. It’s a good day to be alive
idk why but when you said "Dirt itself" I suddenly got the shivers. You were talking about it like it's a bastion that stands above the other songs. Like it's a titan. A god. Somehow that small thing you said there has changed my entire perspective of music.

Never thought I would hear Nerberner in this soundfont but I like it, they mix pretty well together. Funny enough Drain You is my favorite Nirvana song, actually really loved how it sounded here, same with Frances Farmer. Yeah Kurt's voice was one of a kind, I don't think anyone could ever truly recreate that. Peach In Chains sounded cool too, it was very well done.
