REACTING TO BLUE WEDDING DRESSES

- Опубликовано: 9 сен 2024
- Say Yes To The Dress is all about wedding dresses which usually are white. But the question really should be "Why It Gotta Be White?". In this episode, we look at brides that have opted for the color blue to wear to celebrate their big day! The color isn't always seen as appropriate, but when the old wedding rhyme goes "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue" how could you be mad about the color?

This poor woman just wants a baby blue wedding dress and her fam are acting like she just got caught for money laundering
They’d probably react with less judgment to money laundring?
@@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow9195 omg so true haha
😭 right? like its not that deep
right?? i dont want to come off as rude but I feel like the sister is just jealous, but what do I know lol!
😂😂
The energy Luke’s giving in “luckily it’s not your f*king wedding” is me watching every single episode of SYTTD hahaha
Yeah. To keep from throwing my phone while watching SYTTD, I have to tell myself that they up the drama for the camera and the families aren't really like that. I don't know how much is real.
SAME 😂 That was kind of cathartic
2:12 “She’s wearing green polka dots. Why are desperate for the opinion?” THIS TOOK ME OUT LMAOOO
Same
At this point I’m genuinely concerned that Pnina Tornai is being held hostage in a closet somewhere at Kleinfeld’s just waiting for a PA to drag her into the salon and appear on camera at any given moment
😭
I'm convinced she's an android they turn off until they need her for an episode
Pretty sure the truth of it is that Pnina's workspace isn't that far away so when they feel the need for her to come, it's not that hard for her to come
@@ckilbarger01 true it’s free press but it’s a funny joke
@@ckilbarger01 They book this stuff in advance haha like Pawn Stars.
Before the white wedding dress tradition was started by Queen Victoria, people pretty much just wore their fanciest clothes that they'd wear to church. And blue actually makes sense because it's associated with the Virgin Mary, which is where the "Something Blue" in the rhyme comes from. Blue is also associated with love, purity, and fidelity, and centuries ago was a sign of wealth because blue dye was so expensive.
I'm glad blue is easier to get now, as I'm planning to make myself a blue wedding dress/garment. I'm hoping I don't have to dye it myself, because it seems to be more popular. I found one that I kind of like at David's Bridal that comes in blue, but seems to dainty and floral for my personality and tastes. So I'm going to put my blue, old, and new things all into my dress, and perhaps borrow some help from a friend to sew on the details.
I had an ivory dress and a dusty blue veil that was floor length. So you can definitely consider different ways to bring blue in
There's an old rhyme about what your wedding dress color means, abs there was a couplet: "Married in blue, he will always be true"
@@joylox good luck! Fancy dresses/gowns seem really difficult to make!
the first girl, since she’s a ginger, has probably been told all her life that white washes her out but been complimented in blue as “being her color” and “brining out her eyes.”
As a ginger, I kinda agree. The light blue looked stunning on her, the pure white didn't really look right
@@nerdgirl7363 I wonder if a champagne or a light gold dress would look good? Just something warm to go with the hair.
@@nerdgirl7363 My feelings exactly. The light blue was enchanting. She looked like a fairy princess.
@@peggedyourdad9560 CHampagne and rum pink work well with ginger hair. Sometimes blush pink is ethereal on pale redheads.
A baby blue wedding dress would give some strong Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) vibes. It sounds magical!
Her skin tone just isn’t being complimented by the stark white. We need to lay queen Victoria to rest. Just make the guests wear opposing colors, and you’ll always stand out!!! Wedding dresses have just been so bleh for way too long. And we don’t get to wear Crown Jewels to compliment and actually make any statements 😩🤣
I actually like the idea of starting a new tradition, where the bride chooses their dress first, and then in the invitations lets the guests know which color no one is allowed to wear. I like it! The bride still gets to feel special.
Brides don't need a dress to stand out at their wedding. The attention is generally on them anyway.
@@curioussoul5051 true! Just in case anyone is worried though, there’s always a way to counter that fear!
@@erinw4935 it’s been a tradition for everywhere except the current few generations! That’s the kicker 🤣
True, not everyone is a winter. It makes no sense that we all wear white :O though it should be possible to adapt white to everyone theoretically. Winters have optic white in a chokehold, summers could do silvery white, autumns a pale bronze and springs a sort of cream. But I really would like to see some other colours for wedding dresses.
In the USA blue is a vey non-traditional color for a bride. However, a traditional Irish bride wears a blue dress because blue in Irish heritage is a symbol of purity. Just something that I thought might be interesting for people.
I work in a wedding dress shop, just had a bride talking about the blue dresses we have so weird to come on my break to see this
Does that happen often? People not wanting white wedding dresses? Do you sell only dresses
@@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow9195 vast majority of what we sell is ivory (slightly warm, creamy white), pretty rare for people to want WHITE as it has a blue/grey tint in the light in comparison to the ivory- and of course people go for blush and champagne and grey/silver sometimes too! I’ve noticed quite a few brides getting married for the second time that don’t want anything ivory/white or “too bridal”- there is also the odd icon coming in asking for black, emerald green, etc x
@@aiyshaal-nessagreystoke9890 Makes sense, though I would still categorise all those off-white colours into the white category when it comes to the percentage of "bridal-ness", iykwim?
I want a light blue Cinderella-like wedding dress so I'm excited to see these blue ones
I wanted the champagne colored a line dress and walked out with a WHITE white mermaid style dress with pearls so... keep that in mind try all the styles.
The first bride is going for a beach destination wedding. The pale blue with the white overlay really works for this bride. You have to be careful on a beach and go for a very light fabric because generally it's very hot. So often the bride looks for something light and flowy and less structured because she is walking on sand. On the second bride, this is probably an older bride and possibly a 2nd wedding. If the bustier was the same color as the gown, I think it would likely look better. With the 2nd bride, the question becomes who is paying for the dress. These are usually drama points on this show. If Mom is paying for the dress and really dislikes it, she can simply say she won't help pay for it. But if the bride is paying for the dress, then go for it. She can wear whatever she wants.
Say yes to the dress is why I’m high key not inviting my family to help me pick my wedding dress.
But the floral dress with the leather jacket could have been a whole thing
I remember thinking something similar when I watched the clip originally.
for the second bride, the first dress styled with a leather jacket would have given it the edginess and cool vibe
"I can't believe this dress even exists."
M'am, you can find yourself a pre-glow up Princess Aurora costume at any online costume store.
That baby blue lace dress was GORGEOUS! She looked beautiful ❤️
Are we a hater Caitlin? Are we a hater? I need to know now before we begin comment is giving me life amazing! 😂😂this made my day! She’s wearing green polka dots why are we desperate for her opinion……respectfully 😂
blue was actually more of a traditional colour before queen victoria came along with her white dress. like you just wore whatever your best outfit you already had was, but if there was any preference towards a certain colour, it would be blue because it was seen as more feminine because it's a soft gentle colour. but like, if you didn't have anything blue or your best outfit was a different colour, it was nbd.
When you said: “You can’t say Pnina Tornai…”
My brain immediately thinks: “It’s like Bloody Mary.”
You: “She’s like Bloody Mary.”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That shop was probably happy to sell the leather blue combo. The way the lady brought it up was like they'd brought it out a few times with no luck. I hope the bride's partner saw her on the day and thought she was beautiful. I'm happy for her that she picked something to suit herself.
“Are we a hater Caitlin” 😂 dude you are TOOOOO FUNNNY LOVE YOU 💙💙💙
The second one honestly I would even wear that
I live how the daughter of the bride was “it’s her choice” so supportive and she drew a boundary. My parents have overbearing parents that still tru to control them even in their fifties. If you lived with the mindset to please your parents for half a century, it makes it reeeeally hard to defy them even for the littlest of things
Luke calling out british colonialism just ad hoc is why I love him ❤
If the second bride wanted a non-bridal wedding dress, why go to a wedding shop? She'd have a much better selection at a regular dress store.
"She's wearing green polka dots... why are we desperate for the opinion..?" 💀
I want the 2nd woman to have both dresses lol she just looked soooo incredible in the flowered drsss but I also think that dark blue was a gorgeous color for her
me in my head: luckily it’s not your f**king wedding dress
Luke, out loud: luckily it’s not your f**king wedding dress😂
Honestly the first girl looked amazing in all the dresses
If biker bride put a white/light blue poofy sleeve shirt on underneath that dress she’d be serving Ariel’s day dress in the animated little mermaid film
Yes. For my taste, I'd like to see that dress with a blouse underneath or an added accessory
She's in green polkadot. This is a "Shut up you wore a demin jacket" moment
Luke " she's wearing green polka dots!" Lmao!!!😂
I'm going with light blue, because I like the symbol of loyalty associated with blue, and the fact it used to be very popular before white.
That being said, I'm going to make it myself, so I'm going to find a way to make it work, largely by putting white lace that my grandmother had as part of the bodice. I haven't bought the final fabric yet as I want something that's not just the standard polyester satin that I find gets too sweaty, but finding the colour I want in a plant fibre has been harder than I thought, so I may go with a custom dyed bamboo satin because it's super soft, keeps you cool, and I still want something special for a wedding that I wouldn't get otherwise. That would bring that extra wow I think, combined with still being me and meeting my physical needs.
Luke, you should review the Say Yes to the Dress Curvy Brides. Jo and Al are amazing! They treat their brides with respect and know how to dress a full figure!
My wedding dress from this past May was baby blue with a cathedral veil dyed to match by an Etsy vendor. Almost sent a picture of it to you the other day. It was a Portia and scarlet 2022 luxury prom dress PS22037 lol but it worked for what I wanted (actually a little too much like Cinderella but it fit with alterations after buying online and that was good enough for me) 💙 thanks for giving light to the girls who are into their dress being their something blue!
How fun! Thanks for sharing
YESSSSSS Luke and SYTTD is my favourite crossover.
Re: blue wedding dresses, they’re a bit of a thing in Ireland because of the whole Virgin Mary connotation. I’ve always seen myself marrying in a blue dress. The standard colours right now just aren’t me. I’m slowly coming to the realisation that I’m probably gonna have to design and have it custom made though because the current available blue dresses won’t suit me or 10000% suck 😂
This reminded me of a British woman's wedding dress I saw online a year or two ago. I think was bespoke, purple(it was pale maybe lilac?) and quite fitted with pleating(I think). It was fabulous! I think she was a socialite or an aristo in the U.K. I have tried to google it but haven't been able to find it. It was a great example of a coloured dress.
Blue is literally my favourite colour, I hoped I'd get to see lots of beautiful blue dresses. These din't even get to the first page of what a blue fantasy could be...
But tbh seeing the second Bride so happy is so wholsome
The lady from the first entourage would have dropped dead if the bride would have worn my wedding dress, I guess. It was a very bright royal blue with black beading/lace.
I like to imagine her reaction to a dress like that, hehe.
I don't get why some people think they are entitled to an opinion on any wedding dress except their own.
The blue lace one was gorgeous 😭
Im happy that the leather jacket didnt listen to her mother, yeah its not traditional bridal but I think thats the point and she looks fucking awesome
Luke I love your fashion commentary, your sharp witty repartee that goes with it & perfectly placed actions that kill it.
A class act my man, you're Fabulous!👏👏
lol EVERY one of these videos i just want to go around giving pieces of paper saying ‘it’s not your wedding’ ‘don’t give a shit what you want’ ‘good thing its THEIR wedding not YOURs’
I think for the most part these are not staged or scripted. I totally love that you do these bridal and bridesmaid reviews.
For the broker one I would have done the floral dress with a biker jacket on top in either a white or off-white or maybe even a blue. Have some matching flowers with some leather flowers in the bouquet
there must've been another, *nicer* edgy dress for the second bride out there. the two dresses shown were very different and i get why she didn't choose the first one... but i don't get why she chose the second one
Luke is the kind of person you just want to be friends with. Love you!
that flower dress in one of the BEST I've seen on the show !
Happy for the first girl. She wanted a Blumarine vibe, and I think the one she chose was very Blumarine (especially when she has the blue)
Luke, I am so enjoying your non-high fashion videos! I am a big Say Yes to the Dress show. More videos please!
!!!! Can you please review the Earthshot environmental awards? It was requested that they re-wear much loved fashion and I was impressed with the little I saw, but I haven't watched the green carpet yet.
Granted, I didn't like any of the blue dresses, but I don't get why so many people, including Luke at the beginning were like "Blue!?!? For a WEDDING DRESS!?!? Whaaa??" as if blue can't be a totally ethereal, lovely choice. Why are we down for pastel pink and lavender and even black wedding dresses but blue is somehow inconceivable? It's not like she walked in wanting a lime green wedding dress lol
I've always felt blue is an amazing color for wedding dresses, hell ANY color for a wedding dress is fine. The cultural obsession with it being white has probably crushed the dream of many a bride who wanted something different.
@@juliawidmaier5334 When I was younger, I wanted blue, and thought that I only had the option of something like white with blue ribbon or beading. Now I'm doing the opposite, light blue with white lace and details. My fiance said he'd prefer me in blue too, so we're both going to be different shades of blue, rather than the traditional black and white.
This is really interesting because, apparently, light blue was the OG traditional wedding dress color in many European countries through the middle ages, but even then many other colors were worn. White wasn't actually that common until Queen Victoria popularized the color by wearing a white dress for her wedding (apparently the dress wasn't actually white either, it was more of a champagne color).
Not going to lie, I remember seeing the British episode on the TV and falling head over heels for the first dress. If it has been in a A-Line or Ballgown that would have been my dream dress and I did do some research. The Designer is Ian Stuart and this dress came with a matching veil, all of the dresses in the collection followed a flower/butterfly theme and all came in a coloured or white version. So pretty! Unfortunately, his studio went into administration and he's recently passed away, I'm so sad his dresses didn't get more features and I didn't find him sooner.
Blue ballgowns will always scream Cinderella 💙 I love it and would definitley consider blue for my wedding.
Fact: Blue was seen as the color of purity and innocense prior to Queen Victoria wore white for her wedding.
not the first girl's backseat stylist giving hot takes yet being dressed like that 💀
I get giving feedback on a dress but some of these people have such brutal 'friends'
"The British colonial mindset jeopardised so many things," is the summary of several centuries.
That's exactly right she is like Bloody Mary, LOL,it' kind of annoying. Why is it no other designer is ever at Kleinfelds except Pnina. I think she finds out when they will be filming and makes sure to stop by so she can get herself some camera time.
I love when you do say yes to the dress videos!
Luke wearing blue in solidarity with these women 💙
I absolutely adore you in these SYTTD & SYTTD-B reaction videos! I’ve already watched them but am rewatching them again because they bring me so much joy!!
Oh I didn’t know he designed Princess Diana’s dress! Very cool! 😮😊😊
Something old.
Something new.
Something borrowed.
Something _blue._
The sister of one of my son's friends was to marry a member of the military at a mass in a large church. The groom wore his blue dress uniform. The bridesmaids were all in clean, clear red which I remember thinking, hmmm. I Inside the chapel, the bride was stunning in a white lace dress. But it was only when I saw the outdoor photos of the couple, having passed through the traditional sword canopy for a kiss, that I realized there was a blue liner underneath the skirt: red, white and blue! I had not ever seen that, but that's a bride's vision come to life.
I like the number 2 dress .. the lacy blue on (first person)
Does Caitlyn realize she doesn’t have to wear the dress? 😂 also the blue looks so amazing on her skin tone tbh, better than white I think!
I love the idea of adding color, I would love to have a unique dress for my wedding. In fact I would love something that would look like I'm a snowflake for a fairytale.
Looking like a snowflake is interesting.. I always imagine looking like a wood fairy, having a cream light tulle dress with a dark green ribbon.
@@trixi1608 That sounds beautiful.

I really love these! 🎉 Reading is fundamental as they say 💅🏾
The 2nd dress is really pretty
Is there had been some blue on the black corset to incorporate the skirt I feel like I would’ve liked it more. Also if it had been a long line v shape at the bottom of the corset.
We need an episode of you reacting every week 😩 can you also react to america’s top model omg i’d live for that

More Say Yes To The Dress!! Loved this!
They put everybody in that pnina dress. 😂
I want like a lt teal and ivory or cream mermaid rusched sweetheart bodice and ruffle bottom looks like waves throughout the dress like the last dress. I don’t want white washes me out. I’m unique and am all about the ocean 🌊. Love ❤️ that dress!!! Pnina tornai. Actually it was blue wedding dress in history and others changed it to white. Ugh! So ordinary and yes there’s at least 500 shades of white. I like that gold dress with butterflies but gold not me.
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!
The leather needs to be white or light blue and then it’d be awesome
I liked the original blue dress the first woman picked. The white one she got instead looks like a folded napkin.
I absolutely hate the second dress; it doesn’t even look edgy, it looks like a shitty prom dress from the 2000’s. Don’t just be different to be different. Such a shame, the first dress she tried on looked stunning and would’ve looked better with the leather jacket on.
Interesting that she says that she's getting married on Half Moon Cay. Half Moon Cay is Holland America's island and the only way to get there (I think) is to go on a Holland America cruise.
It’s also Carnival Cruise line.
What's with the San Francisco shade? Some of your subscribers are from there...
i’m not going to lie, if i ever have a wedding, my dress must be forest green.
I'd like to have at least a dark green ribbon. But first, I need to find a husband I guess.. ;-)
"off you go" "off you pop" British people crack me up.
Can we get you to do more of the Bridesmaids one
That leather corset and blue skirt don't look like they go together at all.
lol the little clap zoom
Wedding is not really for me because I'm gay and they're not allowed in my country, also I don't see myself in a relationship at all
But I dream about a red/black dress
Just a dream, a gorgeous dark dress
This first baby blue dress would have totally passed as white where I live.
