      @@RogueVideoRaven It was a bridemaid’s dress. She was pregnant when she got married & the bridal consultant kept bringing out dresses that made her look like a sailing ship. They were huge. I went over to the bridemaid’s dressing & picked out a softer, more draped one & asked her to try it on. It just happened to be red. My daughter liked it so much that she ordered that one. We are very middle income so nothing we bought was a designer dress.

    It’s honestly very strange that Queen Victoria’s white wedding gown, which most of the world didn’t get to see until much later, has become such a staple in Western Culture that people feel this disgusted by the thought of a bride wearing a colorful gown. 1840 wasn’t even that long ago…

      I'm from Spain, and non-rich women didn't wear a special white dress until mid 20th Century. They usually wore their sunday best, or a new dress or suit that could later be used as sunday best (usually in black, because it was the color that was preferred for going to church, plus the color for mourning, so it would be more useful).

    • @oliviaspring9690

      Before then blue was actually a common color. The reason for the rapid change is white showed off wealth as it was costly to keep clean. During the Victorian era the middle class really became a thing. The middle class actively tried to emulate the upper class in order to separate themselves from lower class people. None of that seems quite so absurd when we think about how royalty have been the trendsetters or society until recently it makes more sense. Often times when something becomes ingrained in culture, people attach morality to its existence. When often those garments creation was either the result of classical or practicality.

    Im of the opinion that the bridal party should stfu about the brides' dress, especially if all they're gonna do is hate on the one thing she really wants/likes about it. They can have their hot takes and disagreements on the bridesmaids dresses, but unless they're actually gonna be helpful with the brides' dress selection (ie point how one fits or compliments better than another etc) then they need to shut up.

The bride from the age of 3 claimed that she was going to wear a pink dress and it was not going to be for babies either. My daughter in law was so nervous to pick out her dress. She wanted black, specifically to match a veil she had made. I told her it was important for her to get the dress that she loved, and Ben if others didn’t care for it. She tried on many different dresses, some were black, some were white, because they could be ordered in black but they didn’t have them in stock. And then…. She saw a dress that someone was hanging up that she has to try on. It was double her budget, but she fell in love, I offered to pay the difference because it made her so happy. Ironically she then bought a different veil. Her whole plan changed, BUT it was her choice.

    as someone who's had wedding fever lately (I blame watching too much say yes to the dress on youtube) and is also queer and in a relationship I consider queerplatonic, I've come to realize how much of pushing wedding traditions is just like...pushing traditions that don't really mean anything anymore (wearing white isn't even a tradition based on anything, it's just a fashion trend started by the biggest celeb in the victorian era aka queen victoria) so like, wear what you want, do what you want, and give your relatives something to gossip about since they're gonna do it anyway.

    • @benzaiten933
      @benzaiten933 Год назад +19

      yep exactly, white doesn't have any 'tradition' beyond a famous person having worn it first - and it got so much attention because it was unusual at that time. Imagine Boyoncé or Taylor Swift marrying in a short, deep green gown and then in a couple of years green would become the standard wedding color, would be exactly the same.

Even if I do, it would still ruin all the pictures because I would be a walking reflective panel.😂 I normally don't like pink but somehow I love pink (and lavender) wedding dresses. My taste is exactly the opposite from yours. I don't like the first one - especially the two colors on it. It would leave me with an impression that the bodice got discolored in the closet. The last one was very whimsical and the pattern will look good on the beach IMO, but it would probably look better if it wasn't cut off in the middle with this draped plain fabric instead of flowing naturally through the whole dress. To each their own.😉

    My mum got married in pink, and my cousin got married in red.
    Who cares what colour you're wearing, as you're happy!

    My big ruffled ballgown ceremony dress came in baby pink and it was TEMPTING. But the dress in ivory was already such a statement so I was like better not.

    Honestly if I ever got married, I'd wear something on the pink side. Or even better, a light purple.

    Alright bestie. Unsolicited video idea. I would LOVE a video essay deep dive on LVMH and the Arnault empire. Orrrr another deep dive on a designer or fashion brand. I want so desperately to learn about couture but I don’t even know where to start.

    In Germany, normal people began to wear white wedding dresses only during the first half of the 20th century. Before it was all colorful folk dresses or just festive clothing..!
