Damn, this one took me back. My grandfather had a White Road Boss tractor that he towed a low boy with for his excavating business. Always loved riding shotgun in that rig. Not many old Road Bosses left on the road but they’ll get my attention every time!

On a Detroit engine you showed the fuel linkage under the valve cover you want to make sure they move on every cylinder that shaft moves a rod on each injector that is the throttle and if one or more stick it can cause a run away so always check that on any Detroit that has sit more than a few months lol

Brilliant ! That V8 Detroit engine fired up immediately. Perfect battery cobbling and that worked very well. Bus-grease-monkey is an expert on these engines as you mentioned. The vicegrip is the correct tool for the throttle. Runaway, block the air intake with a piece of wood.

They are in the process of moving Mack assembly plant from Pa. to Dublin Va.!!!! Y'all should come here and see the Volvo plant, it's right here off I-81 @ exit 98, it's a yuge thing to see!!!!

Once it runs away it’s burning the motor oil not the diesel, so you can’t stop it by stopping the fuel. That being said those old Detroits don’t typically reach the ability to runaway unless you are at or near full throttle.

Something cool as well notice the rear mounted accessories on the engine such as the alternator and power steering pump. I'm kind of curious as to why the exhaust pipe was removed from the engine. Detroit's don't make oil they used to leak it. If you're using the vice grips and the throttle linkage is unhooked you're only controlling one side of the motor
