Alone in the Mountains- A Wild Camp/ Fishing Adventure 🎣🔥

  • In this weeks episode, I explore some new country and wild camp under a tarp shelter by a beautiful Australian river that I've never been to before. I even get lucky with the fishing. I do a little catch and cook with a Redfin and I also hook into a nice rainbow trout. This was a really fun solo overnighter. Hope you enjoy and if you do, please consider subscribing.

Sick video Scotty! Loved the dialogue about knowledge in the bush. As a freshwater ecologist I find it interesting you hold redfin and trout in a different regard, letting one go and not the other. From an ecological perspective they're both introduced and as damaging as each other. Definitely both fun to catch though.

Someone far off, points out, atop the mountain, "Look! a hairless Yowie!"
The Red Fin being a perch is delicious. Yes, those were eggs, and sturgeon eggs are caviar in some countries. I have eaten fish eggs, (pike, perch, and walleye), it's an acquired taste, but definitely, they are edible (provided the fish is not a poisonous species, I suppose).

The eggs cannot hatch like that so no need to stress in the future.
They get laid in ribbon and fertilized by a male. If not fertilized in time they die.
    They also looked under developed.
    nice size reddy though.
When walking up stream flicking for trout, hit the sides of the faster water and the Eddie’s, some of those Eddie’s behind the boulders looked prime.

Hi Scotty, what a beautiful location. Duck breast is so bloody good, never tried the cherry sauce. I usually use a tropical fruit sauce, (Mango or Pineapple). They are definitely fish eggs (Roe), Red Fin are good eating especially when they are a kilo+. Incidentally, roe is good to eat, one tablespoon (16 grams) of fish eggs contains 42 calories, 4 grams of protein, and 3 grams of fat. Approximately 38% of the fish egg calories are from protein and 64% from fat. Small red fin contain lots of fine bones so care must be taken to chew. Thanks for sharing the adventure.

You done it again mate. Another epic camping out. This place looks a lot more Jurassic to me, beautiful landscape. You do a better meal out in the bush than I can do in the kitchen. Cheers 🍻 mate stay safe

Great video scotty. The redin is not a bad tasting fish .. just a nuisance to our environment. You've got me keen to do some more fishing adventures.

Mate with you on the flood debris. Up where I camp out west of Casino, the rivers been up about 3m and at that point the bugger is about 12m wide! Also mate, after that river crossing, you probably don't need worry about anyone seeing anything they shouldn't!! 🤣🤣 Seriously though, quality content as always Scott, thank you.

Hey Scotty that is a fantastic episode. I really enjoyed it. You are an inspiring chap going on inspiring adventures. I pulled my calendar out again after this one. I need to do more. Can I suggest to you to try some macadamia oil instead of olive oil it has a much higher burn point. Or avocado oil they are the two highest temperature oils.
