Leif, I am a career military man and I have eaten my fair share of MREs. I can tell you first hand that the heaters don't always work, but when they do, it's a game changer. You do have to exhibit a little more patience than what I saw in this video and I can show you how to do it. Firstly, don't put more water than is needed as you did. Secondly, and this is where the patience comes in, place the MRE and the heater in the same compartment that the meal came in with the heater on the bottom. Lastly, lean it against a rock on an angle and let the heater vent. Go catch a trout and in 20 minutes, you'll have a meal and a great story to share!

If the heater doesnt work and you have a way to boil water, you can always just leave the food pouch in simmering water for a bit to heat it

I think this proved what all of the experts always say: a combination of several mistakes can lead to disaster. Leif learned a lesson. (I would also reccommend that when alone, do not go walking on branches & logs above water. One slip and you can land in the water, or twist/break an ankle, even hit your head. If you are alone, that might be all she wrote. seemed like Leif was trying to force it a bit, in order to find the fish).

Hey!! Thank you so much for sending that. I just enjoyed the last of the coffee this winter!! ☕️ And I was born in the US so had US citizenship even though I lived in Germany my whole life. When we moved here I remember things being a lot tougher for my mom. She's Danish and got an H1B visa I believe. It's a worker's visa. But it took several years of applying and you need a company in the US that wants to hire you. It's totally possible, you just need to want it enough. From there, you apply for a Green Card, then citizenship. Hope that helps!!

I'm born/raised here, but my fiance is from the Philippines and I have friends from Portugal, France, Germany...etc. Getting a green card has been extremely difficult for all of them, sadly. What makes it more difficult is once you're approved, you most likely will get on a wait list, and then at that point you can't leave the country because you would be in limbo between visa and greencard.

You can always put air back in the tires at the gas station. 2: Build a base for your fire with some bark or more sticks. It will help keep the fire out of the snow and push the heat up.

Had this happen to me and my girlfriend a couple weeks ago in Iceland with a small camper. All we had that we could use to dig was a small frying pan and its lid, no shovel or gloves. It was towards the end of the day with a snow storm closing and temps dropping fast. After 4 hours of hacking away and digging and many layers of skin gone off my knuckles with a beautiful sunset, we gave it one last go as the last bit of light disappeared and we got it moving. To say we were relieved was an understatement.

Kitty litter is another great thing to keep with you, just throw it in a toolbox or keep it in a watertight bag in the bed of the truck. Helps in place of finding gravel for traction. I use rigid molle panels mounted to the back of my seats w/ flashlight mounts, radio mounts, first aid, etc. But also keep a decent LiFePO4 battery charged up in the truck. Works great, and I just keep one always in the truck, overkill for just cell phones but I keep a 300wh battery with me because you can charge a tire inflator or jumpbox with it.

Man had a very similar experience in the Owyhee Mountains in Idaho. Went out for what was supposed to be a few short hours in early Spring. We were ready to leave, went to turn around in what looked like a normal expanse in the road and ended up in what was a hidden spring runoff. Got stuck in a Ford Explorer in complete sucking mud up to the running boards, absolutely nothing we could do to dig it out despite massive efforts on our part. Luckily there were some snowmobilers out there tooling around and their rigs were parked just a ways down from us. Started a fire and waited for them to come back, and once they returned they were able to bring their truck over and pull us out. Same situation though...should've been more prepared, and we were lucky there was someone else we were able to count on. Definitely a lesson learned. Went out minimally prepared thinking we were just out for a minor jaunt into the wilderness. Have to always go out into the wilderness prepared for any situation beyond what you are expecting!

A couple of 2x4 just wider than your tires and some short ratchet straps. Hook the straps through your tire and over the ends of the 2x4. Tighten the strap. As your tire turns the 2x4 comes down and adds a traction multiplier. It helps pull you out of the hole.

Man ive been there! one time i went exploring on one of the roads behind a lake i like to fish at and hit some snow that transitioned to ice going downhill and the truck slid into the ditch and high centered. i didnt have anything to help me get out so i had to walk 7 miles down the road till i had enough service to get a hold of someone to come get me... then go back up the next day with chain and a comealong and get unstuck in like 5-10 minutes.... that taught me to be a little more prepared, but im still not as prepared as i should be so thanks for the reminder!

Glad you were able to get out safely and so thankful you got in touch with your neigbors for help! You really should invest in some all-terain or more agressive tires if you are going to dive in those kind of conditions (those look like all-season tires). Stay safe Bud!

Besides a shovel, I always have traction boards when off road, in snow, on the beach, etc. A come along with a tow strap can come in handy also.

Glad you got out safely, it might be time for you to maybe get a little bit of a lift and some off-road tires for the f150, most of the fx4 packages and some other ones have a rear differential locker as well when you pull the 4x4 button out towards your for that extra traction. Also a really smart investment for it would be an off road bumper and a winch for self recovery on those trials with no cell service. I’ve been stuck plenty of times out in the cascade mountain loop highway deep in the woods on some snowy trials and the winch is a life saver.

If your car ever gets stuck air the tires down for more surface area and use your floor mats for traction if you have nothing

Early spring is one of the most dangerous times of the year to go out. Snow can catch you off guard and be in places you didn’t expect, not to mention high flows in rivers are very dangerous. Whenever I’m off-roading I always keep large plastic off roading traction tracks. The golden rule of off-roading is always have a recovery system even if you don’t need it.

You get by with a little help from your friends or neighbors! Glad you made it out ok, I've been stuck way out in the boonies before myself. It makes you more prepared next time like a good boy scout. I got one of your survival pouches for myself, can't wait to check it out! Take care 🤙

Actually, peppermint candy is a hack when I hike. Especially in the summer when your water is stale and warm, its a cool trick to suck on a mint and then when you drink your luke-warm water, it's cool and crisp and refreshing.

Leif, cut a couple of old piece's of carpet for each drive tire.... If you can get the tires on that carpet, it will bite, and get you rolling, saved my bacon bigtime once...Also, the floor mats can work... Great call on the shovel, I too learned it the hard way!! Glad you were good , yup, so correct, complacently can get us!! Stay safe man!!!

Awesome video! I absolutely love the scenery. Outdoorsman myself! Just a recommendation. In situations like that, it is good to have a good all terrain tire. Something that snow and ice rated. I'm glad you're safe and glad the neighbor was able to come to the rescue. I am looking forward to future episodes. Good luck, bro.

Duffle bag with tree strap and a heavy duty come along is a good cheap alternative you should always keep that when your in the mountains and better tires also airing down will help a lot in these situations
