- After getting the goats out to graze on the pasture, I head out solo Tiger Trout fishing. After fishing for Trout I go mushrooms foraging for Morels, which I add to the Tiger Trout catch & cook!!

i talked to an 80 year old retired vet the other day.he fished for 7 hours caught nothing and was happy as could be.

My son is 7 and absolutely loves watching your videos. He checks every night for a new "mountain video" he got a bullet lure for Christmas and has been asking non stop to use it. I took him out this weekend fishing and tied it on for him. He caught 5 fish with it all on his own. @@NWFishingSecretsyou should actually be able to turn it into a left hand retrieve, most fly reels you can it just may take a pair of pliers or something. Look up on google how to swap a fly reel to left hand retrieve. There’s a roller clutch bearing you need to flip around which will allow the reel to go the other way

Thank you for these videos. I grew up fishing as a kid, but never got into trout fishing. I tried once or twice, and I never landed anything. So, I gave it up. But I always appreciated videos of people catching and cooking trout. And when I came across your videos, I thought - man, maybe I should give it another shot. But I just couldn’t get myself to for many reasons.
I am now onto my 4th year as a PhD student. Things have been hard over the years in both my academic and personal lives, and it’s kept me from fishing. It’s been hard enough that I had to start seeing a therapist to overcome intense grief, anxiety, and depression from a lot of seriously unfortunate events in my life. But your videos always made me excited and smile. Your enthusiasm for what you do made/makes me happy.
This year, I made it my mission to get back on the water and try to land my first-ever trout. I went last weekend, and though I caught nothing then, I was in awe of how grounding it was to be out and just present. The birds chirping, the water moving, the light rain and cool breeze… They did something to me - and I now understand why you are as passionate about being outdoors as you are.
This evening, I said to myself… “you know what, it’s a beautiful and warm day.. let’s go fishing.” To my delight, I caught my first rainbow trout ever. I said a prayer for the fish, thanked it for feeding my body, mind, and soul, and I quickly dispatched it. I cleaned it per how you teach in your videos, and I’m sitting here getting ready to make some trout tacos.
Thank you, Leif. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I can’t tell you how much of an inspiration your work is to me. I hope to carry on this newfound passion for the rest of my life.

You have to take it apart and reverse the clutch so it is set up for left hand retrieve it is currently set up for right hand retrieve
The care you show for animals big and small says a ton about your character. Awesome video
10:23 The reason your reel felt weird is that it is spooled for right hand retrieve. When the reel sits on the rod the fly line should come out the bottom side of the reel. In your case if you flip it around so the knob is on the right it’ll feel more natural.
Most reels are able to switch the reel to left hand retrieve to ensure the fly line comes out as expected and the reel drags as expected.

It is very exciting when you do that zoom effect on the bobber. The anticipation of a bobber down increases my heartbeat. I also like your filmmaker moments when you put the camera right next to the mushroom to show you picking it, and placing the camera on shore to show you taking the kayak out of the water. Matteeeee that's a right handed reel, you can change it to left hand by taking off the spool and changing around the direction using the little metal clasp inside look up videos on how to do it, easy fix

I have a tip for getting your line back, i learned this a week ago, when you get your fishing hook stuck in a tree like you did in the beginning of your fishing trip. You can take your kayak and go to where the lure is hanging, cut the line from where you tied it, and reel in your line. In this way it guarantees your lure back into your hands.

That reel is set up for right hand retrieve. You can probably switch to left hand retrieve but you would also have to strip all the line off and reel it back in.
