First time one of your adventures has brought me to tears. I lost my hiking/camping buddy a couple of months back and this brought back all the memories. Enjoy the time you have with him because it goes by fast. Great videos, keep it up.
Hi Scotty, you say "Thanks for watching", I say "thanks for filming". What a beautiful part of the world and thanks for sharing it with us, along with your top-notch cuisine
Used to give my Jack russel dog pigs ears and they being hard and stiff he would bury them so they soften in the damp Earth after a day or 2. never buried anything else so maybe why Banjo did. Basic instinct in tne breed maybe.
I have a Red Cloud Kelpie who comes camping with us all the time. It took a few camps for him to settle into it but now he’s awesome, sleeps all night and doesn’t wander. He makes a great hot water bottle too 💜💜
Fabulous video yet again! I take my 3 sheep dogs camping with me quiet a lot, my best advice would be ensure they are happy sleeping outside in their familiar environment (home etc) once they are comfortable sleeping outside with the noises of the back yard will make it a lot easier to translate to outside in unfamiliar environments. Top job! Keep up the hard work!
Aw! I love this! I take my heeler everywhere, shes the best camping buddy. We love it 😀 when she has trouble settling in an area, which sometimes happens, even now, i put her on a short line to a ground peg by her mat, with food and water, where im sitting for a bout an hour. Then just clip her to a running line. It works really well and keeps her calm in camp 😀
Hey your pupper was scoping out the bunyips and yowee in the area that’s why pupper was unsettled and ran fast away from the area once he is used to the aura of the place he will settle down … you were camped in a special spot
I love the way the Kelpie's ears stand up like a Dingo. I have a Texas Heeler but his ears are floppy and he hates the water. Same general facial expressions as the Kelpie though. Beautiful dog Scotty.
A friend train his dog with rubber snakes /pulling on string to wiggle it ...slowly trained him to back away from the snake every time.. to help prevent his dog attacking snake and or getting bitten.
Banjos just like my dog out there. Doesn’t feel safe enough to eat a big treat. Maybe try some smaller ones for him. Might help him feel less spooked. He’ll get better with every trip. Good boy Scotty! Dogs are the BEST. Great vid
Just keep bringing him with you on a Regular basis. Day 2 wandering around he was already feeling more comfortable because his tail was up. Day 1 it was down the whole time. He's a cool dog! As far as that tent goes...consider just using a larger tarp with a bug room under it. Zero condensation, can lower or raise the tarp depending on weather, plus an all around drier area if it is raining.
Hey mate. I got 3 years old kelpie and took him to road trip from Melbourne to Alice Springs for 3 weeks. We were camping the whole time and my boy never really settled throughout the trip. He either was sleeping because he was absolutely flat out tired from being all alerted or being alerted the whole night. Maybe it is just kelpie being kelpie😮. I thought to myself never go camping again with him but if you can get your boy to settle down and enjoy being in the wild, maybe I get to think again and try again. Hope you succeed. I will be watching closely mate. Wish you the best and see you in next video!!!! Cheers
What a nice camping trip for you and Banjo. He's very alert, so all the different sounds and smells will stimulate him. Having a young dog is a little like having young child. They keep you on your toes and they poke holes in things. He'll mature and settle in. He sure is a beautiful dog. Take care and hoo roo.
Hi Mate, Maybe take Banjo back to the same spot a few times so he gets familiar with the outdoor surroundings. Also as suggested a back yard adventure is always good fun.
Scotty. I take my vizsla hunting in the NZ bush and he does get cold. At night around camp I've got him a Swandri woolen dog jacket. For bed, a Thermarest insulated rubber mat, and I cut the arms off an old puffer jacket and zip him up in that. A hooded puffer would be even better. If the pup wants to snuggle, what you can do is pack a section of tyvek, super light and put it over your air mattress to stop him puncturing it. I haven't had a problem, but I do keep his nails down and smooth prior to trips. Hope that helps.
Second time camping, I think if Banjo is giving signs he is scared it's best to keep him tied up because the more scared the more likely he will run away. Looks like you had a good set up for him to walk around. All the food you make looks amazing delicious!
What a great adventure for you both! These memories will last a lifetime and in many years from now when Banjo has crossed that rainbow bridge you'll have this video to watch. My last dog, a Boston Terrier, was my hiking and camping buddy. Sadly, she passed away a few years ago and I had doubts that I would ever get another dog. Then someone tipped me off to a Frenchy in need of a special home to rescue him. I now have a new hiking buddy and boy does he love to hike! Haven't taken him camping as yet, but that's planned for the near future. I think it's a great idea to keep Banjo tethered when in the back country. It only takes a second for him to take off after some critter and get lost out there. I took Rex to my usual camping place to do some work and let Rex roam around as we was staying right with me. A couple minutes later I looked up from what I had been doing and he was nowhere to be seen and repeated calls went unanswered. I was in a panic. Fortunately, I keep a box of dog treats with me and began shaking that box as I wandered about the woodland and in no time Rex came running at full speed to get a treat. Now, he stays tethered when I'm out in the woods.
Ha ha yeah you make a line for the dog to move on but that line has to be cable or chain so they don’t bite through it lol. I see an escape coming. Another great one man thanks for sharing
I used to go camping with my blue heeler. He was a good boy. Never went out of sight, and if he got too far a return whistle would bring him bounding back. At night staring at the "bush telly" he'd lie right next to me and never wander off. I think he was afraid of the dark. Big wuss. :) He'd sleep in the tent with me, snuggled up, it was just a cheapo bog standard 2-man A-frame. None of this fancy crap back then. :) He didn't often want to go out, maybe once a night, but he'd just look at the door and whine. And I usually needed to go too, so it was all good. :) Hope you have many more adventures with your new best mate!
@@linzimacdonald1580 Loyal, intelligent, and energetic dogs, the heelers. Also love chasing things and fiercely territorial. They can be a handful. Not recommended as a house pet. :) I went from a heeler to a chihuahua. Pretty much the same, but with less bite. :)
Hi Scotty, love the video. We have just got a 12 week old Kelpie looks exactly like Banjo only a girl named Zee. Was wondering if you have a list of places to go overnight camping with a dog......our Kelpie does the same with her pigs ears, so funny to watch as she doesn't like us seeing where she hides them
Hey mate. Just a wee guess from another doggy guy. Banjo is a working dog type, so he prob won't switch off with that harness on. If you're worried about him running, put a choke lead on him in that running line. But again with him being a working type he probably won't leave you that easy. If you can get a harness with panniers it will help give him a sense of work when you're walking too. But practice make perfect as you figured yourself. The more you do it the more he'll chill. In my opinion dogs have been doing this with us for thousands of years, so they can go anywhere with us. Thanks for your videos Scotty!!!
Banjo was in stick heaven with those logs you collected🤣 looks like he’ll need to get used to camping. He’ll get there in the end, I’m sure! As usual, beautiful photography x
They are called Man’s best friend for a reason the more time you put into them the more they Love you. My two Jack Russell s go everywhere I go including work if I can’t take them I don’t go we live on a Yacht now but used to live on a big Rural property they don’t care where they are as long as they are with you I hope you do a lot more shows with Banjo Great show as always. Keep up the great work
Looked like a nice relaxing spot. I remember everywhere I used to take my dog when I'd put a bowl of dry dog food down for her she'd take them 3 at a time and bury them all over the place until the bowl was empty without eating any and then would come bumming for more food. Very funny
I'm with Jeff B. I lost my old black Staffy / Kelpie about a month back, and this has me heartbroken, but also overjoyed for you. Beautiful trip and lovely relationship.
With the hex peak you can try setting the pole length higher (140cm+) and lengthening the guy lines so that it sits 10cm off the ground. Plenty of air flow to minimise condensation and extra room too. That said it will still be a bit small for anyone over 6’ and the XL is a better choice for taller people.
Scotty, your cooking has really come up a few notches, great to see you out with Banjo too. I was one of the commenters from your last Banjo trip videos to mention the ridge line setup for Banjo. Tips: 1 - Raise the ridge line as high as you can, 3 - 5 meters if you can, 2 - attach a crabiner and (retractable leash) to the ridge line before raising the second end as high as you can. 3 - Attach the retractable leash clip to something accessible when not attached to Banjo because it may retract too high to the ridge line. This should reduce the tangle ups that Banjo is having and reduce camera tipping. He seems much more familiar and comfortable since the last trip, he's a good boy, he will learn. You live in such a beautiful country and you show it off well Scotty, Australia is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit. Keep up the awesome videos, and cheers from British Columbia, Canada
Hi mate this video really interested me ,as I also solo camp with my Kelpie , I have found that tying him up at night doesn't work as he will end up completely wrapped in parra chord during the night , I took the risk and let him go last trip with his own shelter , and whilst I'm not sure what he got up to during the night ,he was there in morning and happy .my main concern is that he runs around through really snakey area ,
you did an awesome job banjo, good boy. absolutely beautiful spot you picked to camp in as always scotty. i look forward to seeing the pair of you together on yet another sweet adventure
Hello Banjo - I do like that you are on a camping trip with your dad. Such a beautiful place to camp out in and may I write such a joy to have a friend to share it with. Happy camping & travel safely.
Love the ridgeline run for Banjo - awesome idea. I have a German Shorthaired Pointer we take car camping, and she normally is pretty content in her crate on the back of the ute, definitely going to try the ridgeline next trip though!
That was awesome. I’ve taken my dog camping and it’s a really difficult thing to do. Hoping to see more of you and Banjo so I can get some ideas on how to make it “not so difficult” camping with a dog lol.
That was great. I wasn’t sure after the last trip with Banjo, but he looks way calmer. I reckon he’ll get better and better as he starts to figure out all the sounds. Really nice video
We used to screw a peg into ground that had a hook on top, then clipped karabeener on for our dog to roam around. Our Kelpie lived until 19, they are a great dog
Watched your videos for the first time- they are awe inspiring. Great to watch your interaction with nature. You've given me the outdoor bug! Thank you
Hey Scotty. Thanks for another great video... I have a Luxe hexpeak xl teepee tent with interchangeable summer and winter sleeping pods.... Mine has a double ended zipper on the door and I tend to open the top portion of the door to improve the ventilation .... This seems to alleviate any interior condensation... Keep up the great work.
Hey legend, I’ve been following you for years, and now your channel has got even better with the addition of your Kelpie, yew!! Now my boy, Dash (Kelpie), is keen to watch your episodes with me 😂
Beautiful dog and was definitely relaxing more on this trip, he’s going to be an awesome camping buddy and will get used to the ‘camp routines’. I keep my Choc Lab on a lead too, easier than risking him getting into something he shouldn’t or taking off - I would be devastated to lose him🐾🏕🇳🇿
Hi Scotty, that tent looks amazing, so much space with the net and vestibule. Beautiful digs to settle by. Banjo is simply gorgeous! Those Aussie dog ears! His attention was absolutely everywhere but with his 'hooman'. He'll relax when he feels more familiar with your campouts. Trust him, he'll trust you. But, you lead. Thanks for taking us to that beautiful spot. 🇭🇲🐞 Qld
Hey legend, absolutely love your work! I’ve been doing a lap of Aus with my kelpie cross in a tent for the last 4 months. It took a few weeks for him to get settled and sleep through. But now he absolutely loves the tent, takes himself there to chill out and rest during the day. Love seeing Banjo out on your trips can’t wait for more 👍
Fantastic episode Scotty! It was great to see Banjo out in another epic adventure. It must be an awesome experience to have your best friend with you when camping. I can only imagine the bond will strengthen over time as Banjo becomes better conditioned to his environment. Awesome looking little tent and great to hear you are enjoying your -5 Alton Quilt as I certainly love mine even when the foot box gets a bit wet it doesn’t seem to soak through enough to make me cold. PS I’m interested in your Gin combo I’ll check it out ;)
Hey man good video ! Little tip if you don't mind: do not camp nearby rivers mate, condensation came from it. Stay at least 100 meters away, or more if you can.
He's gorgeous - Banjo that is! I also lost my last 2 dogs in the past year and am looking forward to getting another one (Kelpie) after I've got my travel bug out of my system!
Enjoying the bush camping videos with Banjo, he seems like a character as well. Did he get his pigs ear back? Love the aussie wildnerness, but have you ever thought of doing a trip / video in NZ?
Hey Scott, absolutely love being part of all your camping trips. Thanks for sharing! Banjo looked like he had a lovely time. What happened to the pigs ear in the end? Catch you in the next video. HooRoo
Great video as always mate. Those tents are quite popular here with bush crafters. I think they do tend to go for the XL as the weather is often bad, more space to sit etc. The seasons are on the change here, getting noticeably darker evening with Autumn in the air. I guess Spring is on its way to you. Really envy you guys, such a pleasure to see you camping in a beautiful landscape with man’s best friend. Cheers Scotty. Take care. Andy
Excellent video as always scotty. If you make a tripod out of 3 sticks and tie the top of the tent you can remove the pole inside of the tent to give you more room to move about inside especially if your not using the bug net
Beautiful dog your Banjo.. He had drifted in among us as a straw drifts with the tide, He was just a wand'ring mongrel from the weary world outside; He was not aristocratic, being mostly ribs and hair, With a hint of spaniel parents and a touch of native bear.
It's an adventure. Might not be the one that you want, but it's an adventure. You are creating memories that you will talk about many times. Think about it. So true.
smart man you got a kelpie second smartest dog in the world next to border collie both from Aus says something hey ? they as loyal as hell and will always look to you for guidence or aproval for what they do and don't be surprised if they outsmart you sometimes all in good fun on you mate
My mans always eats well ❤️💪🏻🔥 whenever I invite friends camping for the first time they always seem to think we’re going to be eating canned beans for 4 days lol
Hey big guy, i think Banjo is looking great. I think dogs get abit more primal when in the backcountry. Allot to protect from in the wild ;) Best of luck, lots of love!
Thanks for video, after paying a mutza for banjo its easy to get stressed about him wandering off in the bush. My vet told me to stop worrying, buy a collar GPS and relax. Also he said make the choice at the start as to them being an outside dog or inside dog and stick to your guns, he said they don't do both very well and once inside always inside. lol cheers Johno
I think it's cruel to leave dogs outside. They're social animals. They want to be part of the family. I know because I hear the lonesome howls of the neighbour's dog all night. :(
First time one of your adventures has brought me to tears. I lost my hiking/camping buddy a couple of months back and this brought back all the memories. Enjoy the time you have with him because it goes by fast. Great videos, keep it up.

Banjo's great. He's experiencing, "Sensory Overload" with a new environment. Well done Scotty.

Great camp! I do enjoy having my pup with me while camping, but it is a bit of extra work. Thanks for bringing us along! HooRoo!
Excelente lugar para acampar, todo tan natural...bien acompañado por su mascota. Felicidades
PS I’m interested in your Gin combo I’ll check it out ;)
Great camping.
Great to see Banjo growing so well.
This is beautiful! Great vlog!
Enjoying the bush camping videos with Banjo, he seems like a character as well. Did he get his pigs ear back? Love the aussie wildnerness, but have you ever thought of doing a trip / video in NZ?
loved it.....more banjo trips !
Take care. Andy
Good choice of tents I have the same teepee style for me and my dogs. They are calm dogs and actually sleep inside with me.
Excellent video as always scotty. If you make a tripod out of 3 sticks and tie the top of the tent you can remove the pole inside of the tent to give you more room to move about inside especially if your not using the bug net
Hope banjo has a fear of snakes
Lots in that area
Funny thing is the city...has soo many people...yet always, nature is free (t.g.f.t !!!)😁🤣😅💯💫💥
Beautiful dog your Banjo..
He had drifted in among us as a straw drifts with the tide,
He was just a wand'ring mongrel from the weary world outside;
He was not aristocratic, being mostly ribs and hair,
With a hint of spaniel parents and a touch of native bear.
It's a very fun activity...mingle with nature....
The location is very good...very suitable for camping....
Wonderful to see a clip with a hiking buddy that is not 100% super obedient. :) Looks cozy.
Awesomeness Scotty did I hear Van Morrison days like this ? At the end. Great vid mate. Keep em coming. 🤘💯
Just a young pup but doing ok. He will be collecting the fire wood next time. Does the tent not have vents on the roof. Excellent adventure.
Hi, I tried texting that number but didn't work. Maybe cos I'm in Scotland.
Love Banjo! Such a gooboy :D
Bloody great content mate. Love your work. Thank you. 👍🇦🇺🍺❤️
Awesome vid. Thanks mate 👍🏼
Thanks for video, after paying a mutza for banjo its easy to get stressed about him wandering off in the bush. My vet told me to stop worrying, buy a collar GPS and relax. Also he said make the choice at the start as to them being an outside dog or inside dog and stick to your guns, he said they don't do both very well and once inside always inside. lol
cheers Johno
I think it's cruel to leave dogs outside. They're social animals. They want to be part of the family. I know because I hear the lonesome howls of the neighbour's dog all night. :(
love kelpies. used to have a pure cream kelp that looked like a dingo
