When I was in sales we called it the weekend pet strategy. Idea being, a pet shop owner is dealing with a customer who’s on the fence about getting, say, a dog. The owner suggests just taking it home for the weekend and trying it out, knowing that when people get the thing they want, even temporarily, they want to keep it. Shelby put the puppy in Ken’s hands, for lack of a better term. Worked like a charm.
Exactly. I had wanted to build this big, top of the line PC that would cost 4k. Too much normally but after reading Amazon's 12 month payment deal, I figured it'd work. Came to find out that they'd tried to put all 4k worth of parts on the Amazon Store Card I have that currently only has a limit of 900. What I should've done was just cancel it all and wait a few more months for more cash. But by then, I'd gotten the idea of finally owning my dream PC stuck in my head and ended up putting everything on my credit card, which had just got upped to a 3.5k limit. With the Amazon Store Card, I could buy everything. Still trying to pay that all off. So maybe not the exact same strategy but close.
I was a bit bummed that the GT40 just kind of shows up here, the work they did in England to design and build it was imo just as important as what Shelby and Miles brought into the mix.
Yes! The movie implies that Shelby "built" the car but really he "tuned it" for racing. Not that this is inconsequential but it's not the same as building a car. Without the initial work by Lola (the Mk6 GT), Ford would not have won.
It’s a movie they don’t have time to show off every single stinking detail. Nothing implied that he built the entire car. Just that they had it. They even said “fresh off the plane from England”
He literally says "fresh off the plane from England." And anyway, here's a dose of cold hard truth - this is a better STORY. Which is why all that stuff prior isn't in the movie.
I dunno the real Mr. Shelby, but... If even he can call the car he built "worse than awful" when somebody has called it "awful", he must be really open-minded and open to opinions.
