Bold of you to assume that I won't find this challenging as an adult lol!
nah this game is EXTREMELY easy
@@cwega2463And I’m extremely stupid lol.
He literally said it’s for kids
@@User12347ejdjDoesn't mean adults won't find it at least somewhat challenging.
@@PaperMarioParty08 , you watched the video right? You heard him talk about it?
No level editor in this is the biggest fumble of all time
100%. The og march of the minis for DS was peak
I think its because the various platforms and terrains making the levels are actually fully modeled, rather than squares on a grid like the NSMB games, maybe done that way to make sure there's no lag loading the individual 3D blocks per level, at the expense of no level editor because of the same thing, no individual tiles forming the terrain on a grid
Which yeah, it's a bummer, I loved toying with those in previous games
Dlc 9.99 coming in the summer.u heard it here first.
Polyhex jumpscare
no need
My 3 year old is extremely excited for this… he has played the demo so much. Hardcore gamers don’t understand that there is a massive market for lighter games that very young children can play. My son did very well in the demo and because of that it’s giving him confidence to play other games. Kirby games are his favorite
Great piece of perspective
I played this game as a 6 year old and I loved it so much, and I thought the difficulty was perfect :) Just watch out for level 4 in the Spooky House world, the boo in that one was a bit challenging for me when I was a kid since he follows you around
You kid is in for a treat then. So am I.
That's so cute!! I hope your son enjoys more games in the future!
I played the original last year and I'm curious about the changes, even if I would have preferred a remake for DK94

So glad people notice these small things in the edit ^o^
"It might not set the world on fire."

I think this is pretty easy to over look. A hidden gem. Great for the casual Mario fan, regardless of age. Other Mario games aren’t necessarily known for their difficulty until late game anyway, so that doesn’t set this one apart and shouldn’t be criticized for it. It all depends if you are interested in platforming puzzle games. If you have only just a little interest, you should check this out.
The difference between a typical Mario game and this is its movement mechanics. Platformer Mario is still fun even when it’s easy because the game was made to be fun just moving around and using the moves. Puzzle Mario’s movement mechanics aren’t fun on their own, and are just a means to solve puzzles. So when the puzzles are super easy for most of the game that does take some of the joy out of it.
They did and definitely were right to justify its difficulty. I have to disagree. It wouldn't be a good review if they didn't point it out imo.
Well, I can’t compare the remake to the og yet, but there is likely a reason they thought to remake it rather than put it on NSO. It was honestly one of my favorite releases on GBA. Since it doesn’t release on Switch until Friday idk if the movement has changed much, but it has never bothered me in the past, even though I did see the difference from traditional Mario platformers. I never said this was a bad review just that I disagree with a point or two. They are entitled to their opinion.
If your gaming prowess is of a literal baby that just got born yesterday then this game is perfect for you because there is a coop mode where an actual adult with an adult brain can help you with.
@@HiRuMi91 i don’t mind difficult games. I have completed Hollow Knight, Dead Cells on BSC4, Slay the Spire, and harder puzzle games like Baba is You. I consider the movement in Mario vs Donkey Kong to be satisfying, unless they changed it for the worse in the remake. I will make up my mind for that when it is available. There are many ways to get around and get through the levels more smoothly. I stated my opinion which is clearly meant to be subjective.
The challenge used to be getting a highscore star. Something they removed for some reason which in turn damages the replay value and difficulty. Perhaps time attack will offer that challenge.
The plus worlds are not brand new btw.
What do you mean they aren't new? I looked it up on the wiki and can't find a reference to them being there before. They have new stuff like warp boxes anyway so I'd be surprised if they were old.
I assumed at first they might be the e-Reader levels but they seem to be different.
Unless you meant the Plus levels on each world.
@@wumpyjumps the plus worlds being the post game worlds. 3:50
Maybe it's the way it's worded but the written review doubles down on them being new. But they're not new.
you're dead right. going for 100% on the original demands such perfect moment to moment movement and forces you to use all of Mario's new moves to your advantage.
@@user-nr2on1xt7b the score aspect has been removed entirely. Now you just need to get 3 presents to get the star. Which is significantly easier.
I honestly had the exact same complaint when I played the demo for the first time a week or two ago. The highscore stars were my favourite part of the original!
I know it's not what you meant by the plus worlds not being new to the remake, but I guess there would be two new plus worlds (as it would be weird if the main game had 8 worlds, but the post game only had 6, all of which are based on 6 worlds from the main game). I doubt that's what Felix and/or PJ O'Reilly meant, but still worth mentioning, I guess.
This should be a $20 digital release, maybe $30 physical, max. $50 is laughable
Gotta pay the Nintendo tax 😅
Unpopular Take: Why would Nintendo want to compete with Indie Titles? Game is $50 not just because it can, but because other games can't in order to stay competitive.
Back when Nintendo was building Online Shops for DS/Wii/3DS/Wii U, they needed their own E-Shop games to push 3rd party support, which is why smaller budget games were once a standard from Nintendo, but the Switch launched with incredible indie support to fill that space and Nintendo just doesn't have a need for small E-Shop titles.
If the argument is that this feels like a small e-Shop game, need I remind you there are ports on the Switch that do a whole lot less and charge more, $50 is a reasonable price.
And you can't even play as anyone besides mario
@@zombiegames1164I’m going to play as Toad
Judging by what Metroid Prime Remaster sold for this is a bit pricey.
The price tag on this is absolutely insane
Just like the in-game Mini-Marios
I think the price is fair, for a complete high quality remake, with tweaks and new content
The og game 20 years ago cost 39.99. So, I think the price is ok.
@@to-try-again But it was the OG, and it was 2004. You're comparing apples and oranges here.
@@alonkatz4633 Why not? You can compare apples and oranges. I'm more an orange guy. 20 years ago it was a sour apple for 39.99 and now it's an juicy orange with so much more flesh for just 10 bucks more! Hell ya, give me that orange!
I loved this game as a child and i can't wait to relive it as an Adult! I honestly think sometimes it's a much needed distraction to have a chilled game which is simple but also enjoyable! I for one, am very glad this game has been remaked!
The biggest flaw of this game is that it’s not worth $50. The Tomb Raider Collection just released, priced at $30. For 3 games. The added content and glow up is not enough.
This game should be $20 max
@@Gameprojordan- boohoo, get a job
And it doesn't even include the e reader levels
@@guyverjay1289 LMAO. I'm not paying 50$ for a 20 year old game. Already got the original emulated off a romcart
@@Gameprojordan- I don't give a toss what you do or don't pay just stop crying about it. You didn't even pay for the original by your own admission so you are clearly a cheap skate either way 🤡
I absolutely adored the original version on the GBA so I'm excited to revisit it with a new coat of paint!
Me too! Mine arrives tomorrow
50 bucks. Expensive coat of paint
@@bocadog3 not in the UK, £31
@TimmyD9 no way the game weights 31 pounds😂
The original was way better and that was like a million years ago
I'm sort of disappointed that the score system was entirely removed, as in the remake it's entirely too easy to get a gold star in a level. In the original, it's a lot harder as you need to get a certain score that requires speed, precision, and in most cases, execution without dying. Now that you just need to get the presents, it seems far easier to complete this game. The expert levels felt like a true reward in the original. But the worst part about the score systems' absence is the fact that there is a new Casual Mode, so they could've had a middle ground of no score in casual but lives and score in Classic Mode... the mode intended to be classic. From what I've played from the demo, the remake seems fine enough, but even the controls feel slicker in the OG. I'm skeptical on this one.
It's disappointing to see that a lot of reviews don't mention this at all. I think when reviewing a remake of a game there should be a proper comparison between the two versions instead of just implying that they're the same in any aspect except for the inherently obvious ones like graphics and added bonus content.
The scoring system in my opinion was the most important part of Mario vs. Donkey Kong because the actual puzzle solving is just too simple and easy to breeze through. Only with the scoring system in mind - which forces you to actually use Mario's expanded moveset to get through a level as flawless and fast as possible - does the game gain a second layer of depth and challenge which makes it much more interesting and engaging.
A great review of an old favourite, but the criticism about not having to consider Mario's full suite of movement mechanics for the bulk of the game struck me a little. I think the original did those fancier jumps better service by making them a necessary tool for scoring faster times on each level, and a stage's target score to hit (which took into account the amount of time a level was completed in and is a concept seemingly absent from this remake) encouraged experimentation with those moves to find quick routes once the initial novelty of a puzzle had worn off. A pity that gameplay wrinkle may not have translated as well due to the remake's more lax approach, but maybe that's what the Time Attack mode is for.
And yeah, no level editor is a major bummer. This would've been the perfect opportunity to reimplement the one that was dummied out of the GBA version.
Saying that an easier game is for "younger audiences" is really wrong, not every single game has to be super difficult and having a lot of challenge. Please stop saying that, not all of us have kids or want a difficult game.
Yeah, like Kirby is one of the easiest games of all time yet it’s also one of the most fun. Games don’t have to be hard to be fun, and it’s insane to act like they do
I agree. I was looking forward to the review until it was made clear that it is too easy for "adults". Sometimes I love a relaxing easier to play games and it doesn't have to be aimed at kids just because of the difficulty.
Both "Mission: Impossible" and "the Zone of Interest" were movies that gave me what I wanted from them last year. One of them is far more challenging than the other. I don't see how it should be different for games.
Exactly, I feel the last few Nintendo life reviews have been pretty poor. Had a thrown this kind of stereotype at a couple of recent switch games, why does every game need to be so difficult? Not every game needs to be super hard, and I’m at that stage of my life where I don’t want to be playing too many difficult games.
I thought I was the only one feeling this, but yeah it's getting ridiculous not all the time we need or want a difficult game and this kind of stereotype hurts a lot.
Have to say, the removal of the score system is very weird. I used to kind of like score chasing in these games, especially because the stages were so easy to retry. Still, very glad we're getting this game again
The original was the first game i ever played when i tried the demo version at a Kmart as a kid. It'll always hold a special place in my heart
...No level editor? was thinking of trying one of these games if it's on Switch just for that...
yeah it's a shame that the level editor was cut in the original game, fully implemented once they shifted to a more gimmicky gameplay style, kept as tradition throughout all the games in that gimmicky style, and then abandoned the instant they went back to the OG style. I just want to design levels in OG MvsDK style man 😭
I think this is a great way of Nintendo introducing players to the donkey kong series. The more people that play this might get interested in donkey kong country or whatever new donkey kong game nintendo makes next.
Yeah but the Donkey Kong franchise is a different genre, so players transitioning to that wouldn't go well
this game has nothing to do with the donkey kong country series tho. and despite its ties to the arcade donkey kong game, mario vs donkey kong is more of a mario game than anything.
Bad take. The dkc games are tough as nails platformers and these are lemmings rip offs with a mario coat of paint. Nowhere to start with those but dkc 1
@@brianthomas8411 this ain't a lemmings rip-off bro. you're confusing mario vs dk for the GBA with its sequels on the DS, which were a huge gameplay shift that no one asked for.
@brianthomas8411 bro the first MvDK is literally just a direct, upgraded sequel of the original Donkey Kong/DK94
MvDK2 is the lemmings copy where you herd around a group of little wind-up Mario toys
If i remember correctly reviews of both of these games say dk94 is harder in a good way.
I think it would have been better if they remade both games in a single package.
lol, even including the unmodified GB game as a bonus here would've been expecting too much from Nintendo
A game being targeted for kids is not an excuse for being mediocre and/or uninspired.
I think it's just lacking in terms of content. 50 for what's effectively no more than a visual overhaul of a 20 year old game that's also short is a big ask.
@PauLtus_B maybe for mario diehards but this isn't even a consideration for me.
The price is the hard pill to swallow for this one. If it had been $20 I feel like tons of people would’ve gone for it. $50 though? Big yike. I won’t bother.
If you wait 10 years, it should be on sale on the switch 2 since it will have been rereleased for at least 3 years.
I think the biggest downfall is the price. This just doesn't feel like a $50 game. This just feels like a $30 game. Extra levels and challenges are nice, but I'd be willing to bet that the charm wears off by the time you get to them.
Mario holding a keyblade in the thumbnail picture
I don’t really understand why this game needed a remake. It’s not like it’s a particularly visually interesting or mechanically complex/ambitious game that could really use the tune up, and they didn’t add any massive features like a level editor that you’d think a complete overhaul remake would be the perfect opportunity to include. I don’t know, I guess I would’ve been just as happy if they added the original to NSO and put the resources towards something else. Think it goes without saying that 50$ is a lot for this.
My copy will be delivered Friday in time for the 3 day weekend!
Happy Family Day!
Yesssss
A 5 HOUR campaign?!
Priced at $10 for every hour!
I loved this game on the DS as a kid and I’ll probably pick it up if it ever goes on like a 50% off sale… otherwise there’s just too many other games I’d rather spend money on
They should have redone merry Maryland from Kirby returns to dreamland
Come on Nintendo, just update and release DK94 from the Game Boy. It’s SO much more exciting that these. If you really feel the need, package it with a remake of Mario & Wario.
Or just re-release the original GBA version for like 10$
Yes is it worth it because this game was my childhood and I can't wait to play it again
Is this harder than Elden ring?
No, this is Patrick.
I'd have really loved a remake of the full 1994 Donkey Kong game, as it has so much more personality than this game. Even if you unlocked that full game to play as a post-game thing here, I'd really have loved to play through that game again. A revisit to those humble beginnings.
I’ve only played the OG Gameboy game and loved it. So I got this thing as a belated Christmas present (though they shipped it to the wrong house so now I won’t get it until the long weekend is pretty much over!) and now I’m just bummed that it seems like something I can knock out in one or two sittings.
This is a great game which I finished 100 % back in the day. However, there’s no way it’s worth $70 which is the price tag in Sweden. 20-30$ would be more reasonable. I also think Nintendo are being lazy/greedy here. There are one prequel and two sequels on Gameboy and NDS. They should have been included here, at least for this price.
Mario vs Donkey Kong was my favorite game to play in my GBM, I was so hyped about the remake and I felt kinda disappointed that I felt no upgrade in the gameplay, it is just the same game with fancy graphics, and I think that the type of movements Mario does in this game does not look great in a 3D HD format, it feels clunky, I love the fidelity but some changes wouldn't harm the experience
This is the best time to be a Gamer.
I remember playing this on the game boy years ago
Can you play with one copy of the game?
Yeah, 2 player only needs 1 copy
@@dannyboy7237 even in two switch?
@@chrisroberts3299 like if you have 2 switches? For 2 player, the game needs a single copy on one console.
1.) I literally bought this game for my GBA, fun box and all. Played so much of this game growing up and so many memories.
2.) subjectively, the price is worth admission. Is it steep, oh yeah. But as a fan of this series, I’m willing to “vote with my wallet” when normally I don’t.
3.) I wonder if Nintendo decided to price it so steep because they knew it wouldn’t be a massive seller, so they upped the price. I wonder what the metric would be on a price/ sale count between $20 up to what they went with. Especially knowing Nintendo first parties don’t go on sale often or for super steep discounts.
I can’t wait to play this game once, but afterwards I know it’s not a spectacular memorable experience. Knowing it’s an easy-going game aimed for a younger audience, it’s probably only worth playing once just to experience it.
Mario strikers battle league got 9/10 btw
This should've had a level editor.
Probably with the switch 2 update or mario maker 3
I really think Nintendo have overpriced this for what it is…
Same price as Bluey and my youngest will play it.
People complaining because it is only 5-6 hours, in my time games were 30mins and that was it no extra content no nothing, this is a beauty!
Appreciate the straighforwardness about the difficulty level in the this one. Would have been disappointed if I thought this was for me. Does feel like the sort of thing that modders could create a satisfying puzzle experience from someday down the line.
Big question, does Mario still say “big monkey”?
Big Monkey and Gay Bowser should team up to take on Red Shirt Italian and the Jolly Green Giant.
This game is for me I was a huge Mario vs Donkey Kong fan when I was younger.. I’m so excited!!!
I still think that if they were going to remake this type of game they should have instead remade the original donkey kong 94 from gameboy. The game was also more challenging while having pretty much the same gameplay and final boss was more epic.
Nintendo charging full price for this is genuinely insulting. Being a nintendo fan is like being a abuse victim
maybe the game needed to try to bring in the 2 DS games in some capacity
If they had included DK94 with some graphics updates with this as well I think it'd be a good $50 value. Same with luigi's mansion 2. If it included luigi's mansion 1 it also would justify $60
Maybe the reason why Nintendo has priced this game high is because Mario and Donkey Kong are in it together also it's like a little platformer, not like it's New Super Mario Bros series or Donkey Kong Country Series but anyway.
It's just greed. And because they're under the impression people will pay almost top dollar for it.
Because they know Nintendrones will line up down the block to pay full price for a 20 year old game 😂
@@Gameprojordan Not in this case. Usually it would be the case though.
can't wait til my copy comes this week. hopefully we get a real sequel, that continues this style of gameplay, if it does well...i always hated how the sequels we got focused on the minis.
I loved this game as a kid. It’s a shame the took out the score system as that would add more challenge and be great for speed runners. That said I’m still enjoying it, and mostly I hope if it does well, like the Megaman Battle Network collection, they will look at even more GBA games for switch, like Kirby and the Amazing Mirror!
Looks like a mashup of DK Jr & SMB2.. I’m curious so I’m gonna check out the demo
Mario vs Donkey Kong and toads treasure Tracker I enjoyed both of them I just wish they had DLC add-ons.... I also wish they would make a new version of Mario maker and include both of these games where you can build your own levels
Im interested in this version! Especially the new game modes after completion, I might pick it up for those.
I still have this game for GBA
How do you know? It doesn't come out until the 16th. Does nintendo tell you to do that?
The original game is solid enough but I don’t think people were exactly begging for a remake, definitely an odd choice. I’d just as soon have taken the original game being added to NSO. I don’t care how pretty it is this game is not worth $50.
It’s worth it for me, it’s a nice little light hearted game.
@@Adamtendo_player_1Yeah, but the price is still kinda outrageous
They could have easily just inserted all of DK94
I have been saying it since it was announced. Two classics being redone for $50 seems almost far, but not including DK is a huge mistake.
should have been a 4 in 1 pack. OG DK, Dk94, MvDK, and MvDK2 with a fresh coat of paint for $50 total
@@greenhill004 Yes and maybe even more. Make it a collection.
@@Gameprojordan Aren't the OG levels the first ones in DK94? Nintendo could generally release nice collections but why should they as long as consoomers buy these overpriced ones?
The three DK games are so similar and could have been easily bundled with the new graphics and additional features. For DK94, they would have just needed to make the levels and some graphic assets
why is it Toad and not Luigi? like you already have a character for Player 2 nintendo
$50 game + Tax. No stage editor nor online community. Extremely easy. No ranking system.... hmmmm but extra level... idk
Dude they literally removed fall damage even in normal. Like that was there in 94 and the gba original and was the MAIN THING that some puzzles where designed around.
I believe people who are familiar with previous versions may be disappointed but I have never play this before and I'm waiting for it. It looks entertaining.
I think it would have been a lot better if they brought the Gameboy version to switch online that was a great game
You guys need to do your homework way better.
After Donkey Kong '94, there was a SEQUEL on gameboy advance in 2004 that this switch game is a remake of. It has the mini marios, it has the final boss and true final boss, aside from the 2 new worlds and co-op, its the same game. And it was on the WiiU for about 6.99, so this is the second time its been re-released
his game is almost 1-1 a remake of that gameboy advance game and they are selling it for 60.00.
Id wait for a sale, because its been sold cheaper in the past and by nintendo themselves, is sold cheaper for GBA in the after market (14.99 is about the asking price at time of writing) and it feels like this is not at all worth the price even with the new presentation and extras to consider.
I'll wait until its 30 to 40 dollars. 50 is just way too much especially since you can get prime remastered for 40 bucks. Prime is easily the better game.
Same. I think I'd love this game as I liked the demo, but $50!?¿‽¡?!
I was shocked how fair the cost for the Metroid Prime Remaster was.
Especially considering the graphical overhaul is so extensive it's arguably the best looking game on Switch.
I wish it were a standard considering most games with "remastered" in the title are just ports with effectively turning the graphics settings to "ultra".
You can’t really compare Metroid prime to Mario versus donkey Kong. Obviously in terms of status Metroid prime is a bigger game, but I personally like barrier versus donkey Kong a lot and I will defend this game. I think the review was pretty poor just like the one for another code recollection which I ignored the review anyway and bought it with no regrets.
@david.hannah I played those 4 levels trying to get quicker and quicker times! I enjoyed it, but it's just waaaay too expensive for the type of game it is.
@PauLtus_B absolutely agree! Its a shame more games dont get the metroid prime remastered treating.... Holding out hope for metroid prime 2 and 3 remastered...
Pauline should’ve been Player 2 instead of Toad
I thought Pauline was running the toy company?
Maybe I'll borrow this one instead of buy.
I think my biggest issue is the fact this game is 50 bucks...
Like, I love the original, was the first game I got for my GBA SP after going a few years without my original GBA.
Maybe back then, that game was worth full price, but not today.
I'm shocked there is no level editor, with well the Mario Marker series with player creativity, that mode would have fit in well for this game.
Co-op looks fine, I suppose, but seems a bit underwhelming.
Probably not going to pick this one up, looks pretty, but it's not worth full price.
The people reading the reviews aren’t the ones who wrote it. Talk about Donkey Kong 94’ without showing shots of Donkey Kong 94’. What is this channel?
It's 35usd where I am so I'll be picking it up, 50 is a bit much for the content you get imo
This isn't just necessarily geared towards the younger players. I'm 51 and long for these older classic revivals so I don't have to sit through a 20 minute cutscene, or a 3 gig update that by the time its over, I've lost the interest to play at all. Thank you, Nintendo!
This looks like a really good remake and I think at some point I would like to play it because I really like Mario vs Donkey Kong but a 50$ Dollar price for it just isn‘t worth it.
As an extremely casual gamer this level of gameplay is perfect for me as an adult. A lot of these reviews seem to ignore the extremely casual players who own switches
the price does not matter to me if its an offline game, i have 2 nintendo switch, one for online gaming and a jailbroken switch for offline 😂
We need balloon fight remake
2 days for release yet
$50 is insane when I can buy Persona 5 with well over 100 hours of entertainment with spare change for another charming indie title
I’d pay $20 for this, not $50. Plus Dragon’s Dogma 2 is coming soon with hundreds of hours of play-through potential for $70.
Pre-ordered, a good review!
If you’re experiencing joycons drift, it adds a whole new level of difficulty, and the game can be sometimes really challenging 😂

Get yourself an arcade machine, a couple of beers and go play the original game - good good times
So glad i preordered this for $35 instead of $50 😂
Its hard to justify paying $50 for this one. I got the original on Gameboy and I thought it was an 8 out of 10 back then. I got it for $20 lol. A level editor would have saved this one lol
They should have remade both games and charged $60 that would have been worth it but $50 for this is very odd.
Looks fun but not $50 fun. Nintendo really needs to price these remakes better.
I played it on GBA, and it was so hard to get a star ranking
Fun remake!
