I have been to quite a few gigs over the past 40 years (not a lot, but they've all been good ones) and I know everyone says this immediately afterwards, but this was the best gig I have ever been to in my life.... I had to do a quadruple take before I realised it was Johnny Marr ( I thought it was another member of the Finn family :-) ). I love The Smiths, I love Crowded House even more, I love Victorian engineering, I love trains, I love beer... and this night had all of the above. Fantastic venue, fantastic crowd, fantastic weather (in Manchester !!!), impromptu participation from passengers, drivers and guards from trains on the viaduct waiting to go into Deansgate, incredible band with a setlist of impeccably written songs.... I don't care if the all the gigs I go to from now on are rubbish - I have experienced perfection. Thanks for posting this.
seen neil 3 times and ch once. A massive part of my life. i was medically retired from navy in 97. i did my final job.. then on underground surrounded by nuns. cried my eyes out listening to farewell to the world. my god the nuns thought i was sad. get this. my last job was royal tounament and the nz deefence force were in maori dress and sang this. can you actually imagine seeing the nzdf dong the hakka 2 inches from you face and hearing this .. Beyond brilliant. beyond your dresms.... Anei ra maua (here we are together) E piri tahi nei (in a very close embrace) E noha tahi nei (being together) Ko maua anake (just us alone) Kei runga a Rangi (Rangi the sky-father is above) Ko papa kei raro (the earth mother is below) E mau tonu nei (our love for one another) Kia mau tonu ra (is everlasting)
Completely agree. Seen them at the Hydro in Glasgow and down in Manchester this year, and the Manchester gig was far and away the best. Biggest problem at the Hydro was the security staff. How very dare you stand and enjoy yourself!
@@southcalder yeah i was at the hydro as well and i got into it with security because they kept pulling me back from the barrier and wouldn’t let me be there. the guys were great as always but the security and the seats totally ruined the vibe.
I was there and it was a great gig. A fave now for me. Everything you say plus them doing Bowies` heroes ` , having a laugh playing piano backwards and joking about the trains and guy with beer. One of my fave bands ,have loved their song s for years. so chuffed I finally got to see them.
Just saw CH in Chicago. I'm not sure the number of the show, but I've seen a good share since Woodface. I've seen the Finn bros play too, sat next to Harry Shearer at a outside show in California. Being in a big fuzzy bunch of Crowdies singing songs We've loved since High School is right up there for me. My Wife actually bought us tix to Her first show, She likes me even more now. If you're thinking about going, pull the trigger. It will be a fond memory.
Wasn't it an amazing night! i must have been just on your left! everyone was gobsmacked when Johnny came out! This is a really good capture ,you ought to send it in. Crowded House have appealed for clips from their tour. Thanks for uploading it.
What's really cool about this performance..Johnny Marr is using Neil's well-worn gold Les Paul guitar. I'm sure Johnny was honored!! And no one commented? Dig, DmGrk
Johnny really knows his way around the fret board. Thats what Neil said about him when they did the Seven Worlds Colide gig in Aukland. He was on for the whole gig for seven nights in a row
So true. After another member of the entourage getting up on stage a few times break-dancing I think we all thought it was another guest of the band showcasing their skills.
Johnny was a part of Neils "Seven Worlds Collide", they did a recorded gig in Auckland about 18 years ago?? Those boys have history. Seven Worlds Collide of course out of "Distant Sun"
hi there, yes i did! it was on my iphone 11. i just held it up and honestly thought i didn’t do such a great job because the camera was struggling to decide whether to focus on neil’s all-white suit and it was throwing off the lighting. glad you enjoyed the video and didn’t think it was too bad!
Thanks, Sasha. That's amazing, it almost makes me want to spring for a new phone. I just watched another video with similar quality pic & sound, and when the video was zoomed way back/out for a moment, the sound quality changed fundamentally, suddenly instead of sounding up close and sharp, it was roomy and distant, only to change back as soon as it zoomed in. Far out what the engineers can do these days.
What a bass player

Absolutely . What a fabulous line up that was.

Amazing to see it live in my age woow 💚💛❤

So great!!!
Amazing!
Looks like Johnny is playing Neil’s gold beauty - they’re like brothers; fitting they chose to perform this song together.
❤
Johnny F*ckin Marr. The end.
♡♡♡
He is playing Neil's Goldtop
Did you capture this sound and video on a *phone camera*, Sasha? The quality of both is really remarkable. How did you hold it so still?
hi there, yes i did! it was on my iphone 11. i just held it up and honestly thought i didn’t do such a great job because the camera was struggling to decide whether to focus on neil’s all-white suit and it was throwing off the lighting. glad you enjoyed the video and didn’t think it was too bad!

This would been even better if the song had morphed into Cemetery Gates
Onya Johnny.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👊👍🌻
Did the bass player have to do a squat off stage mid song?
Bassist with dress.
