Yes. Most of their songs have incredible chord progressions! Heard nowhere else. Really ! For a Popular band, they introduce intellect in pop. Which is greatly needed when we see what Hollywood has become, with Disney and the pedophile industry, just to name one.... just look at the moment where the old dude says to Pinocchio that he can bring little boys to "Pleasure Island". And all the subliminal messages in their films. Full on Pizzagate. It's crazy... looking for proofs? just google P.Daddy Parties. Or Pedophile symbols! But Yes, one of the (maybe) best band ever when you add up all the ingredients that make a good rock/Pop/Funk music. L.42 and Prefab Sprout. Prefab Sprout more for the poetry and very powerful messages when you come to think of it. Then there are all the side works released or not. Wally badarou has released Words of a Mountain, (extremely intelligent). Lyle Mays for the harmonies and that Left hand of his ! There is so much music on the web. Can you imagine if Internet stops working suddenly ? Because it's the kind of thing that would happen not gradually at all. Thank You very much Ed for Posting this. U made my day. Maybe even my week.... Haha.
So do I. It's that semi quaver permanent bass playing, with the great alembic Bass and his old Trace Elliot Amps. It was quite something. And today 45 years later (December 2024). They still rock it on stage. I love the synth part on the instrumental section of "Hot Waters", not the solo, the chord splashes on the Prophet V. Yaiiks. Awesome.
Agreed, what a stalwart Annie was during their heyday, great singer and a key part of the L42 sound at that time. I recently discovered that from around the early 2000s, Annie moved (back?) to Edinburgh where she ran a small café/art gallery on the Royal Mile. She sold up in about 2017-18 and is now retired I think. She worked as a session singer in London for 20 years (1980s-90s) apparently, with various well known groups. Wish I had known she was in Edinburgh, I must have passed her café a dozen times when she was there!
Thanks for posting this. I taped it off the radio back in the day and played it loads until some little scrote broke into my car and nicked all my tapes in '88. I still remembered every bit of that sax solo on Heathrow. Brilliant.
I love how kansas city milkman starts quick and slows down to the right speed. This is indeed a great period for the band..85/86. I did enjoy seeing them in Bath recently, and it's great to see Mark and Mike and hear those songs. But this recording was made in exciting times and you can hear that. Love them dearly and I'm glad they still work.

I wish I could've listened 2 this live or on a good stereo equipment and not on my cell. But anyway I just feel grateful and touched everytime I hear Mark King's voice and bass. He resonates deeply . .
Leaving me now really is such a beautiful song I think its one of the best versions and I've heard a lot king and mccaig together is always really special i have tears in my eyes
Phil's issues? The current band is fire but pales in comparison to the chemistry these particular four had. Phil's groove is as deep as Jeff Porcaro in my humble opinion, and the songwriting was never the same after the Gould brothers left. I have lots of love for Level 42, past and present. Mark King's 'Influences' um, influenced me. I'll always be a fan 🤘🏼
@@KennyO303 i meant he wasn't happy with the new musical direction, he'd already decided to quit at the end of the tour. I think that line up was amazing but the current one with Pete Biggin on drums and the full brass section sounds superb too. I am going to see them this year, maybe for the last time as Mark and Mike are a lot older now. But bloody hell they can still play ! we all hope they get with Phil and Wally and write new stuff.
I heard them first in 1986 in a "Rockpalast" Session. My first thought was: "That's it"! New, fresh, funky. Now, by the way, they got older and the sound is better but the statement is more pop. The spirit has gone.
I had a cassette bootleg of this gig in early 90s and loved it. Since it got chewed up haven't heard it for years. Thanks for posting I love this era of the band and I love the set list at this point of old stuff and world machine.
Mad, cassettes 🤣🤣🤣. Brilliant gig. My first time seeing them live was World Machine in the SFX Dublin. Vivid memory of Mark jumping out from under the stage safety curtain before it was fully raised to the intro of Chinese Way.. Thanks for posting.
I'm another that had alive concert ( this probably) on a cassette a band a friend gave me, great its on here now, I played it till it almost wore out. I just love it
34:20-34:50 is an arrangement ive never heard before at that part of Heathrow, that was cool they should have expanded further, really added something to the tune, great!!
I saw them at Wembley in around 85/86 and they were phenomenal, that Jaydee is such a great sounding bass. I saw them last year in Bath, I know MK loves his Status King Bass but I find it far too tinny for my taste........I want those bottom end notes to punch a hole in my sternum but the status sadly fails to deliver that sensation.
In fairness, it is not the instrument, I think Mark has EQed the shite out of his sound so much now that there is hardly any low gravitas in his sound now. Always sound so thinny. Still love his playing and will always be a fan. 👍
Thank You Gordon. CD and Vinyl have been released by the BBC (known as the "BBC Transcription") but some of the tracks have been edited, cutting some solos or instrumental parts. Also these BBC records feature The Sun Goes Down instead of Turn it On. The BBC Transcriptions version can be heard here : ruclips.net/video/510F_IoTFts/видео.html
The audience is perhaps a tad too high in the mix but the band sounds 'just right' here, unlike in many of their other live broadcasts, where I tend to come away a bit disappointed.
Really good and so positive Incredible band God bless jazz funk to forget all this shit whit covid-19 My feet dont stop since chinese way 1st second's And yours folk's ?
You gotta be kidding? The horn section sounds like James Last does Level 42. Total shite playing pop crap. God be with the days they played the real stuff like this. The tragedy is they dont seem to want to play it any more.....
I don't agree with you there, i think the horn section sounds great, but arrangements are a Little boring. Just imagine this band playing tracks like 43, sandstorm, Heathrow or Foundation and empire. I think that would sound amazing
One of the best band's of the 80s , and still selling out stadiums today 40 year's later. Respect boys
one the best band ever !!!

Holy shit, the version of Turn It On on this is an absolute belter. Absolutely brilliant.
This was the first tour I saw the band on, I was at the Newcastle date on November 1st. Still going strong, both the band and me 😊
Best live version of Kansas City Milkman!
I love that song so much.❤

I was there. They were brilliant. They always were. And still are.
A l'écoute c'est un super concert.
Un de mes amis les avait vu à Paris à cette époque.
Son commentaire était simple : GEANT !
what a group one of the best bands of the 80s big respect to Mr Thunder Thumbs.
;-)
mark king is a king but the thunder thumbs title belongs to louis johnson .
👍🤣✌🇬🇧
AHH that sweet phil gould groove
Annie McCaig, just brilliant

Jeff France Phil brought it under control
Well spotted. Good old Phil.
Awesome. This band with Mark King on a Jaydee bass. Best thing I've ever heard.
You're absolutely right John. This recording should have been released on CD (with the few missing songs of the set).

This is one of the best live performances I've ever heard! I loved this performance! Thanks for bookmarking btw!
Gommble Yeah I remember this live one of Heathrow very well. Listening to it now took me back to having it on cassette. Ha ha!
🙌
Great live..

how lucky you are!!!

OMG! Another BEST live performance! They are unique! Show me somethink similar...
I remember recording this when it was broadcast & I wore the damm tape out.. lol This stuff just doesn’t happen anymore folks👌🏼🎶
Superb, they were on fire despite Phil's issues. They crowd were going bonkers !

I thought it was the musical direction of the Running In The Family album that caused the rift but as always I'm happy to stand corrected.
Fantastic production and deep sound from a live recording from 1985. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome Kennyo !
Finally a mix of an 80s Level 42 concert where the Jaydee doesn’t sound like mark is playing hollow glass bottles… nice to hear some actual bassss
I heard them first in 1986 in a "Rockpalast" Session. My first thought was: "That's it"! New, fresh, funky. Now, by the way, they got older and the sound is better but the statement is more pop. The spirit has gone.

Great post Ed. What a rare gem of a recording. Level at they're absolute best.
Agree I do... ;-)
Long live the JayDee SNC Series I !!!
Awesome
Saw them in Essen when I was stationed in west Germany. Play loud on the unrestricted Auto bahn was my 80s go to
Band strepitosa,, Mark King fantastico
34:20-34:50 is an arrangement ive never heard before at that part of Heathrow, that was cool they should have expanded further, really added something to the tune, great!!
Agree. It's actually a nod to Miles Davis's 'Right Off' from the Jack Johnson album, featuring Mark's idol John McLaughlin on guitar.
Now your talking Love this Band
LEVEL 42, RUSH = two BEST bands, EVER !!!!!!
Funnily enough, Neil Peart often cited Phil Gould as one of his favourite drummers.
This drummer is a pocket master
Great gig and not heard it before lol

Mine don't either Patrick ! Thanks for your comment ;-)
Kansas City Milkman for me son.😉
What can I say
Speechless...
just started to listen . Chinese way mix has the percussion too far up front .
Just imagine if the "new" Level 42 band would play these tracks instead of all that pop crap they are doing now.
I'm afraid it wouldn't sound as good as this even if the "new" Level 42 played the very same tracklist...
oh i think it would. The band sounds amazing now especially with the horn section
You gotta be kidding? The horn section sounds like James Last does Level 42. Total shite playing pop crap. God be with the days they played the real stuff like this. The tragedy is they dont seem to want to play it any more.....

Noel Gaffney I agree. First time in a while i didn't go to the tour.
The real Level 42. Unfortunately now it's just become a cover band. Time to hang it up.
Not that Bad, Today,Saxophone work needed Only?
Krys Mack on the Saxophone!
Whaaat are you talking about...?
