    I have a 92 that cranks but won’t start I sprayed some starting fluid into the air intake and it started do you think it could be a fuel pump all the plugs and wires look good replace the distributor cap too

      I would check for fuel. I think that there is a test point on the fuel rail that looks like a tire valve that you should be able to press and see if fuel comes out.

    I just used normal fuel hose. It has always worked in the past, but I suspect the submersible stuff would be a safer bet.

  • @CheesySteve
    @CheesySteve 5 лет назад +3

    Did you use submersible fuel-hose? I just paid 20 bucks for a foot of it for my cabby-pump.

    Sometimes the door chime does not work if the ground is not good at the door switch or the switch might be bad.

    It looks like the part number would be, 191906092 or 357906092C. This part was used in a lot of VW models or the years. It should be cheap.

    I have a 1986 VW Cabriolet and when I turn the ignition on I don't hear anything from the pump but when I try to start it (Cranking) I hear the "whirring" of the pump. My question is though when I turn the ignition on without cranking am I not supposed to hear the pump engage? Any help would be appreciated.

    • @bryansprojects3570
      @bryansprojects3570  6 лет назад

      Richard Florian An '86 has a different style fuel injection. Some cars will run the fuel pump for a few seconds before engaging the starter and some don't. I am pretty sure all of these cars have 2 pumps, one in the tank and one under the car. The one in the tank supplies the one under the car. Are you experiencing a particular problem?

    • @richardflorian1086
      @richardflorian1086 6 лет назад

      Yeah. When I try to start it she cranks and cranks. If I spray quick fire into the combustion chamber it starts to run and then quits. No fuel is getting to the CIS system. I'm thinking it's probably the fuel pump in the tank which may be one of the issues. I'll try to switch it out and we'll see what happens.

    Would you know what the fuel pump part number I would use on a 93 VW cabriolet convertible collector's Edition with automatic transmission?
    Thanks for the video! 😊

      I do not know the number. I think they are all the same so it should be easy to look up.

    were you able to remove the floor carpeting without cutting it? I am about to undertake this project soon. My Fuel pump is damn near whistling yankee doodle at this point

    • @bryansprojects3570
      @bryansprojects3570  5 лет назад +1

      You just need to remove the rear seat. There is a fuel pump under the car also. You might want to check it too.

    Just got an 84 that wont run for longer than 6 seconds
    Also the gas guage isnt registering any gas at all
    Could it be the whole sender unit is bad
    I unplugged the top cable and tried turning it on and it runs exactly the same so u suspect the pump inside the tank isnt working at all

    • @bryansprojects3570
      @bryansprojects3570  3 года назад

      You should probably pull the unit out of the tank and see what it looks like, it is easy enough to do. It will also give you a chance to look at the condition of the tank as well. Usually if the in tank pump does not work the main pump is really noisy.

      Bernardo Sanchez ramirez checkout cabby-info.com its an awesome site for cabriolet owners. If you go to the ‘TechCenter’ tab and click ‘electrical’ there should be a link for an image of the fuse and relay panel under the drivers side dash with everything labeled

      Car values are hard to predict. You could look up NADA values but that is sometimes not a good judge of what people are willing to pay. Look for a Facebook Cabriolet group, I bet there is one or a VW Mk1 group. Join that and lurk there for a while you might be able to find a buyer or some advice there.

      I cannot remember if this one does or not. We have an '87 Cabriolet that has an in tank pump and a pump under the car, the more I think about it this car must have two pumps too.
