Action game balancing is kinda hard because not everyone has the same reflex. This thing is pretty controversial though, not gonna say more.
Turn-based RPG difficulty is also a weird one. Increasing enemies' stats, levels, and forcing you to grind is literally fake difficulty. Sure, grinding is a part of the game, but like... wow....
For me, giving them better AI (which is hard to do, I guess.), a slightly better/more variety but not too op attack, or a limitation that won't allow you to fight the boss if you have higher levels/stats boost (with the option to decrease level/stats) is the way to go. But well, programming is hard. Stats buff and nerf is way more easier...

I think most people agree with your opinion and so do I. I personally see video games as an artform and I don't believe we are entitled to receive a version of a piece of art that strays from an artist's vision just so that it can appeal to our preferences.
There are plenty games that aren't for me, so I don't play them. I choose ones from the thousands and thousands of available games out there that I think I will enjoy.
I actually prefer if games don't have a difficulty setting because usually, from my experience, they are lazy design choices that just vary how much damage you deal and take instead of altering the a.i. which would make use of our skills and strategic ability.
I usually play challenging titles like the Souls games, but I played a game recently called What Remains of Edith Finch and it was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had in my 30 yrs of gaming. There is basically no challenge to it at all; it is a narrative-driven adventure game and it doesn't need a hard mode.

Nice video. It's... something I veer back and forth on. If accessibility can be increased - 100% behind that. But judging what removes or fundamentally saps at the core experience I get why there sometimes isn't a choice given. Persona 5 is interesting. Beating Persona 5 - simply getting to the end - not difficult. But lots of stuff is locked behind completing things within a time limit...

I might just suck at Turn based games because I found persona 5 a little difficult near the end of the game lol. But yea doing everything in that game is at least a 100+ hour play through. And like you said the more accessible video games are the better it is for us gamers! thanks for the comment.

I exclusively go for normal every time. I guess I never really think about a hard mode unless it’s a puzzle

When people complain about wanting Easy Modes in games, I think we should consider how easy it is to FAIL in those said games.
I recommend watching GMTK's video; Playing Past Your Mistakes. It kinda relates to the topic of difficulty in games.
With a spectrum of failures, casual players can make several mistakes before they have to try again. Once they've gotten used to the game's mechanics, then they can determine if they can make it to the end, or they should just retry preemptively.
Though I don't think that games should just handout victory on a silver platter, in some games, I think players should be able to recover from the mistakes they've made.
(It depends on the game, of course.)
