"Turned based combat" the entire concept sounds stupid to me, like ur opponent is doing jumbo conbo and all u can do is wait till thier attack is finished, there's hardly any skills ( Yeah ik it require strategy but compared to others meh)

I think demos from AAA game can make a come back it just down one thing from publishers "pay us" if Monster engry drink or Doritos or coke or pepsi or McDonald's approach Hideo Kojima about including a code for demo of Death Stranding 2 with their products Kojima give them a price that will cost to cover of making the demo and along with certain amount of % of sales of products let say Doritos containing a code for Death Stranding 2 demo provides good sales numbers then other publishers and producers try to do same

Movies and videogames depends on the story. Videogames is about the story and what choices they can make, which movies are about the character development and the same thing goes to videogames. Basically, movies and videogames is about the story, making choices, with movies watching our characters make their own choices. In my opinion, I think video games do a great job on keeping the story good as they want it to be. Personally, I lowkey do enjoy playing videogames.

All of a sudden teenage boys start confessing and crying over how they have grown into turn based rpgs. I at the same time feel that tunr based rpgs don't deliver anymore. I am an action game player after all. And as distracting turn based rpgs have been, I need the instant command at my finger tips. Even games like Dragon Age need me to prepare my characters. But once I am in battle I don't want to be the sitting duck but avoid attacks actively while hashing out my attack.

i prefer open world games with a story campaign, it's a lot more immersive and I love the fact that you can explore, and your free to go where you want when you want rather than going down a straight line. how ever i can understand why some gamers don't like open world most likely because they don't like to explore and haven't got the time to be following a way point and all of that... basically just wanna get on with the story and get to the next chapter.

Objectively, the RPG approach is bad. The leveling system means that it depends more on the time invested than on the player's skill. Ideally, statistical improvements would come from exploring dungeons and finding secret chests that give you weapons and magic that increase your statistics and improve your skills.

Turned based RPGs are more on the slow pace type of game. So people who have no patience and prefer something fast then this genre is not for you.

Also, i dont want action RPGs. If i want actuon, i just play action games. Why leave my headshot to a dice roll when i can just play Call of Duty?

I enjoy both. Really was always on the lookout for both growing up, but today it feels like Turn Based are being kicked in the dirt for no reason. I cant find a good Final Fantasy like turn based rpg. I loved Darkest Dungeon and Atelier series, but it's almost like unless it's a TACTICAL rpg (Fire Emblem, Digimon, Unicorn Overlord), your only other option IS action. I want good ole SNES/PS1 era turn based stuff back

FF7 remake games are not turn based games, they are real time games, that take a few mechanics from the turn based gnre, and heavily improve upon them.

I prefer Linear games to open world. I just like how Linear games are more story focused and better at telling said story. the way open world games tell their story is a lot more complicated and also a lot easier to be more forgetful.

the only turned based game i like is a Dragon Age Origin styled real time combat... i hate having enemies destroy my experience even on the easiest difficulty... like let us move around, dodge, i hate micromanagement

I grow up with turn based jrpg and i find it more appealing to me then action games. I love the pace , the strategy , i love the tension and love to see each animation of abilities. Action rpgs get soo much chaotic that your focusing on the enmey more then the beauty of the action of your abilities . But i guess it is subjective because my nature is more chilled and i like things slow

I only like a few turn based games mostly they suck expect the ones with good tempo and story lines you have a point there.

In my opinion undertale has the best turn based combat because I think being able to actually dodge attack is really fun. Also you can say that the combat is part of the story since you have to choose whether to kill or spare the enemy which is basically the whole point of undertale: decision making

Turned based RPGs are trash.

I dont think the issues is turn based games arent for everyone, its that devs seem to try not to make them for everyone. Most seem to be designed for the hardcore turn based veterans that enjoy spending hours researching the most meta builds and working out the overy-convoluted and other game management systems that are explained with a brief pop up window rather than explained through the actual gameplay. Bottom line is to do ok in most of these it takes a lot of work and most people just arent interested in 'work' when they want to 'play.' There are a few exceptions imo, Wasteland 3 comes and Rome: Expeditions both had fairly straightforward combat systems and mechanics but others ive tried seem to just throw the whole encyclopedia at you within the first 5 minutes and go "figure it out or prepare to save scum and redo everything and hate your life until you figure it out"

The only RPG I played are Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, the combat is turn based but the player is actually involved in the action rather than just waiting for a basic animation. Just want to know if other RPG hvae the same gameplay as those games

I think the best way to play a turn-based RPG is by using the fast forward option in an emulator and using an internet guide.

i wanted to love FFX , it was my second time trying a turn based RPG, but it was just too grindy. i gave up after washing up on the beach early on in the game.

I don't like video games as a story vehicle apart perhaps from the old adventure games of the 1990s, where they were slow-paced and purely story-driven (e.g. the scummvm engine games). And the reason why I don't like watching 3D games as stories is for the same reason I don't watch animation movies or anime: they are in the uncanny valley of reality, and so they don't draw me in AT ALL. While a real movie, made with real people, and looking as realistic as possible, does the trick for me. So the Last of Us tv series did the trick for me, while the game it came from, it didn't.

Video games don't technically have an end point. You can replay even the most basic single player games multiple times. But a movie has a runtime or a book has the final page to conclude the story. Games are interactive and constantly challenges you to try different things. Whether it's other mechanics or choices to make.

My biggest gripe with turn-based combat is how damm long literally every single action takes, including the animations for everything, simple things like taking care of two low level mobs feels like eternity compared to real-time action rpgs, and god the f***ing random encounters that are just there to waste time if you're not grinding. Take Like a dragon for example, i watched a lets play of it (because there's no way in hell i am gonna buy a shitty persona clone with a Yakuza coat of paint) and beating a bunch of mob enemies there legit takes LONGER than just beating the shit out of them normally like the rest of the series in the franchise.

I was born in 1998 so I wasn’t there for the glory days of the turn based RPGs but one of my first games ever was Pokémon Blue Edition on my brothers Gameboy Color and I still like Pokémon a lot today because of nostalgia. I think the next turn based RPG I encountered was Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic when I was about 7 or 8 and I hated it. Battlefront 2 was new at that time and was so thrilling (the first game I ever completed was Halo in coop mode with my brother when I was about 6 years old so that was kinda my definition for what a console game had to be like) and I didn’t understand why I should play a game where I can not directly control the characters in game while having this possibility in Battlefront. Since that day I don’t like turn based games in general and did not finish a single one but I still play Pokémon and I was wondering why that is the case. I think it’s because Pokémon games include a reason for your passiveness in the games. You are active when you are walking around but as soon as you encounter a wild Pokémon you need to tell your Pokémon what to do. In other games you actively walk with your character but as soon as you engage in a fight you somewhat lose control over them and get to tell them what to do in this passive manner. I tried several Final Fantasy titles a could not play one of them longer than 5 hours because even though I like what they look like and I’m excited about their story I’m so thrown off by how they are played that I stop. Final Fantasy 16 is the first title in the series that I really enjoy as a whole and for me personally it is the best title in the series and I know that that I objectively wrong.
