Back in 1989 Chrysler decided to use the all V10 they already developed for the Ram. They struggled to reach 360hp with extensive modifications. They decided to make an all aluminum V10 instead but knew nothing about manufacturing aluminum engines so they got Lamborghini (who had extensive knowlege and were owned by Chrysler at the time) to re-engineer the all aluminum motor for them. They built 2 motors for Chrysler (I think). Chrysler designed, Lamborghini re-engineered, Chrysler manufactured.

@AGCrean Porsche has the 918, GT2-RS, and 911 Turbo S on the way. Ferrari just released the 458 Italia and is working on its Enzo replacement. McLaren is finishing development on the MP4-12C, and is working on its top-of-the-line replacement for the legendary F1. Pagani is developing its replacement for the Zonda. Lamborghini is developing its replacement for the Enzo and Murcielago. Mercedes just released the SLS AMG.
....I'd say Europe is doing just fine.
@AdrianosFidi By Chrysler. This car actually went on to get a top time a the Nerburgring but I don't knoow if its been knocked down by now.
@tannersk869 This isn't D1 Grand Prix, this is real racing. The whole point of all those aerodynamic aids, suspension and new tyres is that the car DOESN'T go sideways.
@christosganidis They are, these cars are putting 600 to 620 at the wheels on chassis dyno. :-)
That gunmetal grey one is the best looking Viper I've EVER seen, and I'm not even into Viper's but I'd buy that if I had money lying around to waste.

And even though what you say is true, people still adore the style of it. There's something about the design of the Viper that makes it appealing. Personally, I think it will never become boring to see one.

@thatnigga54 Actually there are only a few Versions of the Viper the Regular coupe , Vert , The ACR and the ACR X and they are all bad ass and have proven performance and track records .

@christosganidis You bet it can. But there's just costs involved...you know how that goes. :-( The concept for the racer in 2003-04 was actually 650 "or so" from the 8.3L.
@fidgetingfinch fastest on 4 wheels can also be the gtr with a lot of stuff that the viper doesnt have, but i agree. It used to be my favourite but now its kinda like a playstation game so i agree with you. :)

They really need to update the Viper since its been the same for like the last decade.
Dodge, seriously if you want buyers other than just burnout freaks. You need to put some quality to it, and by that i mean the interior the vipers. We are in 2010 and all these gtrs, audis etc are coming up with the sexiest interiors. Once i saw one and it attracted me like a magnet but i was like eeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww when i saw the same old plastic interior.
And i dont want the fanboys to say that its a racecar, the street one has the same dashboard etc.
Its crazy that the 2011 Mustang Shelby has roughly 60HP less than this car lmao.. Though im pretty sure this car would smoke a shelby :)

@tannersk869 This isn't a rally car and they're not rally racing with it. This car is made for smooth tarmac tracks not rally courses. I guarantee you'll never see a road racer doing the Scandinavian flick during a race.

put a V8 in there and lean it back for perfect weight distribution and throw on some twin turbos and youd have a badass car for the same price.. drop the boat anchor V114980 and just go american style.....
It's just that Lamborghini made it into aluminum block instead of iron block which is used from Dodge truck that used iron block. That's all.

@Inklebonker1 This myth arose out of partial truth, the truth is that at one time chrysler owned lamborghini, and lamborghini assisted in some of the areas of development on the viper's v10 engine. But the engine is not a complete lamborghini engine but a dodge v8 truck engine modified with 2 more cylinders and aluminum. i don't know where the mclaren bit came from though.

Wow, Europe is getting their asses handed to them. ZR1 and ACR are American and Japan has got the GTR. Right now it looks like Porsche is Europe's only hope, and what does Porsche have, the 4 door Panamera. Owch lol
