There's something suspicious going on here, I think. The unexplained crashes, the timeline shenanigans, and the fact that humans clearly live on PNF-404 but can't be seen could all be related. We know from the Waterwraith Piklopedia entries that entities from alternate dimensions are bleeding through, and that gravitational waves can bridge the gap between dimensions. Maybe the humans are in an alternate dimension, and their physical belongings are bleeding through? Maybe something from an alternate dimension is causing gravitational waves in orbit, causing the crash landings? It might even be possible that the Ancient Sirehound, with his ability to use all sorts of powers belonging to Pikmin and otherwise, could have jumped dimensions in the distant past to bring space dogs to the Pikmin 4 universe, causing all the timeline shifts, starting with the presence of Moss.
It’s the Umibozu. It lures captains to the planet and crashes their ships. My theory is that the Pikmin need captains to survive so something about the planet and the pikmin keep luring captains in. I wanna believe that Pikmin 4 is an Alternate Timeline from the other games. Most importantly, the major notable difference between Pikmin 4 and the other games is the signs of human presence. In other games you only find small relics of human presence, mostly discarded junk, and see no sign of intelligent life currently inhabiting PNF-404. In Pikmin 4 you explore what is clearly an inhabited human house with functioning appliances, meaning that even if we don't encounter any humans, there was clearly someone living there until recently.
I think Olimar lost some memory from Pikmin 1 and 2 from the crash in 4, but still remembers things like crashing on that planet before and dreaming about the plot from Pikmin 2 but forgets that he had already found pikmin before, then its Pikmin 3 deluxe because in a treasure playing the main theme from 3 in 4, Olimar says it gives him a bad feeling of something that will happen in the future, and the koppaites in 4 say that the planet is starting to go low on food, which means that 3 deluxe is after 4. And finally, Hey Pikmin, its just Olimar with a new model of the S.S. Dolphin after saying in 3 that he would use some money earned from the treasures and fruits to get his ship back.
It's nice to see the Pikmin timeline explained in under 10 Minuities it's a really good timeline though it is a bit weird how Pikmin 4 is an alternate timeline and it did sort of confuse me. Also I really do love moss you don't get to know much about her but she is absolutely Adorable loyal and caring though she was the reason Olimar was turned into a leafling it wasn't her fault though because Olimar and moss had no clue that that would happen. I don't actually think that Pikmin 4 is a retcon, instead, I believe it takes place between 2 and 3. In the opening of 4 and in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, he finds red, yellow, and blue pikmin, and it seems like it's his first time finding them, but this can be easily dismissed as he is just suprised to see the same pikmin with a different onion (different from the onions in 2 and 3). This also explains why he is suprised to see Winged Pikmin and Rock Pikmin in 3s side stories, as their designs are slightly different. This can be seen when he says "These rock pikmin are different", implying that he has already met another kind of rock pikmin. Another thing that can be explained from 3s side stories is when he says that he's been to this planet twice before. Even before 4 came out, this was blatantly wrong, as he had been 3 times (once in 1 and twice in 2). This leads me to believe that he counts the three trips from 1 and 2 as one trip (as they all happen back to back), and his trip from 4 to be the second trip. Finally, the Koppaite explorers we meet in 3 can easily be explained as members of the research pod that went to go see if PNF-404 had fruit before the captains from 3 were sent, which can be seen in the opening of 3. (Also Hey Pikmin probably happens at the end of the timeline as Shepard says she will buy Olimar a new ship with the Sparklium they gathered (being the SS Dolpin 2), and even then he never actually crashes it and meets the Pikmin as it is revealed to be just a dream).
Louie makes reference to wanting to “deliver” Golden Pikpik Carrots in his Log, which implies that 4 is before 2, and that it likely replaces 1 in an alternate timeline.

In the description of the Scornet Maestro it mentions how it travels over bodies of water. So my best guess is that something happened in the atmosphere or Louie hit a meteor, the ship was sent crashing into the Garden of Hope, which lead to its ship parts being scattered around the planet on the way down, then the Scornet Maestro kidnapped Louie and brought him back to the Twilight River. This is the only way it works because the idea that Louie walked/swam to an entirely disconnected continent is ludicrous lol. He could've been seperated from the ship during the fall too, and might've landed in the Twilight River while the ship crashed in the Garden of Hope.
Fr it was so easy to just put 4 in the main timeline. I’m really not a fan of standalone games/reboots in game series with established timelines (I’m looking at you Zelda.)
I think the reason for Olimar not knowing about Rock and Wing Pikmin in 3 Deluxe is because 4 takes place in an entirely new timeline, not a retcon that still leads to 3. I think this new reboot timeline will give them the ability to somewhat remake Pikmin 2 and 3 in the next games the way they remade Pikmin 1 in this game. Theres also the fact that Koppaites didnt know about this planet in Pikmin 3, despire 3 of them being there in this game, which is another reason why it has to be a reboot, not a retcon.

Nah pikmin 4 is in a completely separate timeline. We know in pikmin 3 the koppaites discover the planet because they were looking out for food, but if pikmin 4 takes places before 3 I think it would just prevent the food crisis that is what gets the plot of 3 going. In pikmin 4, 3 koppiates already stranded on PNF-404 and discovered there was food on it, being stranded on an unknown planet that could possibly prevent a catastrophe there is no way the news of what happened to them would have not been known by any citizen of koppai.
I def agree for most of this video, like I agree this is a split timeline cause treating it as a reboot of the series i think is just, dumb. Although I think Pikmin 4 wouldnt connect to 3 simply by the fact there are Koppai in PNF-404 in 4 while in 3 they JUST discovered PNF-404 so id say it is more likely the timeline for 4 is Pikmin 4 > Alternative Pikmin 2 > Alternative Pikmin 3, or just downright no Alternative 2 happening since the reason they are in debt is due to Louie taking care of the Golden PikPik carrots. My interpretation of the timelime is Olimar's Shipwreck Tale->Pikmin 4-> Pikmin 2-> Pikmin 3 Ive interpretted it as Olimar's Shipwreck Tale as a retelling of Pikmin 1, retconning it in a way. In Louie's Voyage logs, he foreshadows his eating of the golden pikpik carrots, meaning 4 predates 2. Also, Louie doesnt know what Olimar looks like, which implies that he hasnt worked closely with Olimar. Also some flavour text (i forget where) says that Koppai is on the verge of collapse, so it predates 3.

Before Zelda had an official timeline, each game was just kind of seen as the same story but retold in a different way. That's how I see the Pikmin games. I think it's just the same story but re-imagined each time. Pikmin 2 is obviously a sequel to 1, but beyond that I think 3 and 4 are just re-telling the same story and adding new characters. I don't think the lore is meant to be consistent.
I get where you are coming from with the Zelda comparison but I don't think that quite fits. The Koppaite's story in Pikmin 3 is similar in gameplay structure and narrative to Olimar's in Pikmin 1 but Olimar and Louie are also in Pikmin 3 and their narrative is again framed as a sequel. It can be summarized as "The President blew all the money we made in Pikmin 2 so he sent us back out here." and then in the latter side story he gets nostalgic retrieving the pieces of the Pikmin 2 Ship that had crashed somehow when Louie was fleeing the Formidable Oak at the end of the former side story. That's a clear through-line from Pikmin 1 immediately into Pikmin 2 and sometime later Pikmin 3 happens. I haven't played Hey! Pikmin (I'd like to eventually, need to find a reasonably priced copy and repair my 3DS) but from what I hear that's the only prior entry that's a little wonky to fit with the rest but it was made by Arzest instead of in house at Nintendo so some flaws in continuity are to be expected. Pikmin 4 is a mainline entry made by Nintendo with Miyamoto's direct involvement like the fully cohesive entries that precede it. This one is a retelling of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2, literally not thematically, and alters things enough that even if Pikmin 3 still happens down the line as the Koppaites state seems to be their planet's current trajectory then it'll be different which is what makes this such a common discussion topic.
Pikmin 4 could very well happen with the main timeline. Olimar already knows what the pikmin are from one and two, but since olimar is an idiot, he crash lands again, and now, what would be the bad ending in one is the only ending to his tale in pikmin 2.5: olimars shipwrecked tale. Then pikmin 4 is a prequel to 3 when olimar crash lands again because of the plasm wraith, then the new koppaites save him. Since Nintendo won’t tell us the time line, olimar going to pnf-404 4 times could make just as much sense.
I think it's best to remember that the Side Stories in Pikmin 3 Deluxe weren't done by the same team, who did the main story, so some stuff in it should be taken with a grain of salt. I personally think that the game takes place on PNF 404, but in a compleatly different continent (or a part of it). Which can explain why Olimar never recognized it or wasn't sure it was the same planet. Plus, time on PNF-404 is funky at best. TL;DR: I don't think 4 is a compleat reboot, it's just 1 and a bit of 2 but in one game. Tho i think i may miss some details in that theory.
What I think is that after the good ending of pikmin 1 it goes pikmin 2 then 3 then hey pikmin. But after the bad ending of pikmin 1 where Olimar gets turned into a pikmin pikmin 4 follows where you need to rescue Olimar from being a pikmin/leafling

Here's my headcanon. In Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, Olimar says "Pikmin" before he even plucks one out of the ground, implying he already knows what they are, so my thought is that after Pikmin 1 he managed to crash his ship yet again before he could get home which extended his time on the planet, which would lead into Pikmin 4. Additionally, in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, you have 15 days to live where as in Pikmin 1 you have 30 days, which could mean that he canonically spent 15 days gathering ship parts in Pikmin 1.

The fact that Pikmin 4's PNF404 still looks like Earth in our time and not Pangea Proxima means that it takes place millions of years before the other games. The presence of entire homes above ground supports this.
I personally believe Pikmin 4 takes place at the end of the timeline especially with the mentor related things being mentioned as one of the reasons Louie kidnapped Nelle which was coping things Olimar told him to copy, and we don't get any sign of a Mentor relationship until 3 Deluxe with Olimar's Comeback
And considering Olimar has to remember memories of his shipwreck may imply Olimar got slight amnesia from the crash, which could be why he doesn't remember the Pikmin, and why he's so surprised at certain types

There's nothing in Pikmin 4 that says Olimar never encontered Pikmin in the past tho, just because she says "I found this creatures I named Pikmin" he could still be referring to the first time he encountered them and named them, he never says he named them NOW. In Pikmin 4 you explore what is clearly an inhabited human house with functioning appliances, meaning that even if we don't encounter any humans, there was clearly someone living there until recently.
I think Olimar lost some memory from Pikmin 1 and 2 from the crash in 4, but still remembers things like crashing on that planet before and dreaming about the plot from Pikmin 2 but forgets that he had already found pikmin before, then its Pikmin 3 deluxe because in a treasure playing the main theme from 3 in 4, Olimar says it gives him a bad feeling of something that will happen in the future, and the koppaites in 4 say that the planet is starting to go low on food, which means that 3 deluxe is after 4. And finally, Hey Pikmin, its just Olimar with a new model of the S.S. Dolphin after saying in 3 that he would use some money earned from the treasures and fruits to get his ship back.
It's nice to see the Pikmin timeline explained in under 10 Minuities it's a really good timeline though it is a bit weird how Pikmin 4 is an alternate timeline and it did sort of confuse me. Also I really do love moss you don't get to know much about her but she is absolutely Adorable loyal and caring though she was the reason Olimar was turned into a leafling it wasn't her fault though because Olimar and moss had no clue that that would happen. Very good video I love it it is well made!

I don't actually think that Pikmin 4 is a retcon, instead, I believe it takes place between 2 and 3. In the opening of 4 and in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, he finds red, yellow, and blue pikmin, and it seems like it's his first time finding them, but this can be easily dismissed as he is just suprised to see the same pikmin with a different onion (different from the onions in 2 and 3). This also explains why he is suprised to see Winged Pikmin and Rock Pikmin in 3s side stories, as their designs are slightly different. This can be seen when he says "These rock pikmin are different", implying that he has already met another kind of rock pikmin. Another thing that can be explained from 3s side stories is when he says that he's been to this planet twice before. Even before 4 came out, this was blatantly wrong, as he had been 3 times (once in 1 and twice in 2). This leads me to believe that he counts the three trips from 1 and 2 as one trip (as they all happen back to back), and his trip from 4 to be the second trip. Finally, the Koppaite explorers we meet in 3 can easily be explained as members of the research pod that went to go see if PNF-404 had fruit before the captains from 3 were sent, which can be seen in the opening of 3. (Also Hey Pikmin probably happens at the end of the timeline as Shepard says she will buy Olimar a new ship with the Sparklium they gathered (being the SS Dolpin 2), and even then he never actually crashes it and meets the Pikmin as it is revealed to be just a dream).
Louie makes reference to wanting to “deliver” Golden Pikpik Carrots in his Log, which implies that 4 is before 2, and that it likely replaces 1 in an alternate timeline.

And obviously he'd want to eat more Golden Pikpik Carrots via the same method he used the first time, since it brought him success by convincing everyone that ravenous Space-Bunnies ate them all.

In the description of the Scornet Maestro it mentions how it travels over bodies of water. So my best guess is that something happened in the atmosphere or Louie hit a meteor, the ship was sent crashing into the Garden of Hope, which lead to its ship parts being scattered around the planet on the way down, then the Scornet Maestro kidnapped Louie and brought him back to the Twilight River. This is the only way it works because the idea that Louie walked/swam to an entirely disconnected continent is ludicrous lol. He could've been seperated from the ship during the fall too, and might've landed in the Twilight River while the ship crashed in the Garden of Hope.

I think the reason for Olimar not knowing about Rock and Wing Pikmin in 3 Deluxe is because 4 takes place in an entirely new timeline, not a retcon that still leads to 3. I think this new reboot timeline will give them the ability to somewhat remake Pikmin 2 and 3 in the next games the way they remade Pikmin 1 in this game. Theres also the fact that Koppaites didnt know about this planet in Pikmin 3, despire 3 of them being there in this game, which is another reason why it has to be a reboot, not a retcon.

@@ashmander3465 He's not talking about the playable Koppaite squad, but their society as a whole. According to Pikmin 3, PNF-404 was totally unknown, whereas in Pikmin 4, some Koppaites are already on the planet and would likely have reported back about it when they returned home.

Nah pikmin 4 is in a completely separate timeline. We know in pikmin 3 the koppaites discover the planet because they were looking out for food, but if pikmin 4 takes places before 3 I think it would just prevent the food crisis that is what gets the plot of 3 going. In pikmin 4, 3 koppiates already stranded on PNF-404 and discovered there was food on it, being stranded on an unknown planet that could possibly prevent a catastrophe there is no way the news of what happened to them would have not been known by any citizen of koppai.

I def agree for most of this video, like I agree this is a split timeline cause treating it as a reboot of the series i think is just, dumb. Although I think Pikmin 4 wouldnt connect to 3 simply by the fact there are Koppai in PNF-404 in 4 while in 3 they JUST discovered PNF-404 so id say it is more likely the timeline for 4 is Pikmin 4 > Alternative Pikmin 2 > Alternative Pikmin 3, or just downright no Alternative 2 happening since the reason they are in debt is due to Louie taking care of the Golden PikPik carrots. But def the video I agree the most in terms of "The Pikmin Timeline". Good job!

My interpretation of the timelime is
Olimar's Shipwreck Tale->Pikmin 4-> Pikmin 2-> Pikmin 3
Ive interpretted it as Olimar's Shipwreck Tale as a retelling of Pikmin 1, retconning it in a way.
In Louie's Voyage logs, he foreshadows his eating of the golden pikpik carrots, meaning 4 predates 2. Also, Louie doesnt know what Olimar looks like, which implies that he hasnt worked closely with Olimar.
Also some flavour text (i forget where) says that Koppai is on the verge of collapse, so it predates 3.

Before Zelda had an official timeline, each game was just kind of seen as the same story but retold in a different way. That's how I see the Pikmin games. I think it's just the same story but re-imagined each time. Pikmin 2 is obviously a sequel to 1, but beyond that I think 3 and 4 are just re-telling the same story and adding new characters. I don't think the lore is meant to be consistent.
I get where you are coming from with the Zelda comparison but I don't think that quite fits.
The Koppaite's story in Pikmin 3 is similar in gameplay structure and narrative to Olimar's in Pikmin 1 but Olimar and Louie are also in Pikmin 3 and their narrative is again framed as a sequel. It can be summarized as "The President blew all the money we made in Pikmin 2 so he sent us back out here." and then in the latter side story he gets nostalgic retrieving the pieces of the Pikmin 2 Ship that had crashed somehow when Louie was fleeing the Formidable Oak at the end of the former side story.
That's a clear through-line from Pikmin 1 immediately into Pikmin 2 and sometime later Pikmin 3 happens.
I haven't played Hey! Pikmin (I'd like to eventually, need to find a reasonably priced copy and repair my 3DS) but from what I hear that's the only prior entry that's a little wonky to fit with the rest but it was made by Arzest instead of in house at Nintendo so some flaws in continuity are to be expected.
Pikmin 4 is a mainline entry made by Nintendo with Miyamoto's direct involvement like the fully cohesive entries that precede it. This one is a retelling of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2, literally not thematically, and alters things enough that even if Pikmin 3 still happens down the line as the Koppaites state seems to be their planet's current trajectory then it'll be different which is what makes this such a common discussion topic.
Pikmin 4 could very well happen with the main timeline. Olimar already knows what the pikmin are from one and two, but since olimar is an idiot, he crash lands again, and now, what would be the bad ending in one is the only ending to his tale in pikmin 2.5: olimars shipwrecked tale. Then pikmin 4 is a prequel to 3 when olimar crash lands again because of the plasm wraith, then the new koppaites save him. Since Nintendo won’t tell us the time line, olimar going to pnf-404 4 times could make just as much sense.

I think it's best to remember that the Side Stories in Pikmin 3 Deluxe weren't done by the same team, who did the main story, so some stuff in it should be taken with a grain of salt.
I personally think that the game takes place on PNF 404, but in a compleatly different continent (or a part of it). Which can explain why Olimar never recognized it or wasn't sure it was the same planet. Plus, time on PNF-404 is funky at best.
TL;DR: I don't think 4 is a compleat reboot, it's just 1 and a bit of 2 but in one game. Tho i think i may miss some details in that theory.
What I think is that after the good ending of pikmin 1 it goes pikmin 2 then 3 then hey pikmin. But after the bad ending of pikmin 1 where Olimar gets turned into a pikmin pikmin 4 follows where you need to rescue Olimar from being a pikmin/leafling

Here's my headcanon. In Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, Olimar says "Pikmin" before he even plucks one out of the ground, implying he already knows what they are, so my thought is that after Pikmin 1 he managed to crash his ship yet again before he could get home which extended his time on the planet, which would lead into Pikmin 4. Additionally, in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, you have 15 days to live where as in Pikmin 1 you have 30 days, which could mean that he canonically spent 15 days gathering ship parts in Pikmin 1.

The fact that Pikmin 4's PNF404 still looks like Earth in our time and not Pangea Proxima means that it takes place millions of years before the other games. The presence of entire homes above ground supports this.
I personally believe Pikmin 4 takes place at the end of the timeline especially with the mentor related things being mentioned as one of the reasons Louie kidnapped Nelle which was coping things Olimar told him to copy, and we don't get any sign of a Mentor relationship until 3 Deluxe with Olimar's Comeback
And considering Olimar has to remember memories of his shipwreck may imply Olimar got slight amnesia from the crash, which could be why he doesn't remember the Pikmin, and why he's so surprised at certain types
Not to mention it would make no sense for the Ancient Sirehound to not be in 3, cause I'm pretty sure with how the plasm wraith is, the Ancient Sirehound would show up to defeat it and protect the pikmin

I do hope they add timeline shenanigans into the lore of PNF 404 at some point, have the two we've see at this point cross over, the two Olimar end up meeting themselves and stuff.
The lore being that whatever the hell happened to this planet REALLY fucked it up, screwing with how time works, which we already see with the time dilation in caves, explaining that when Olimar first landed on PNF 404, he ended up splitting into 2 timelines during the crash.

I still believe that Pikmin 4 fits in somewhere. There is a line at one point about the Koppites being on the verge of running out of food. Idk, with how common crashing is in this series, I could see Olimar getting his ship back between 2 and 3 and then crashing again. The Ship from 2 being in 3, tho muddies things a bit. And the whole meeting Pikmin for the first time (again).
