A quick tip-moles/voles love hosta roots (and others) so if you notice things aren’t thriving or your hostas are shrinking, plant in dollar tree wire waste baskets (bury the basket) so that way they can’t reach the roots. 👍
I am in middle Georgia. Our humidity finally dropped enough with a slight breeze at 70% and temps finally around 90 with a few clouds. I had to spend the time finally brushing my 2 german shepherds. It is so hot here. I don't ever want to be outside. Your video did help me imagine how great my yard would look if I went out. I did finally water my mosquito herbs and plants the other evening since we haven't had a lot of rain. Your bed looks so pretty. You need a decorative bird bath or statue. Maybe in an area over that big root running through.
Yay!!🎉Jodi, I love your new shade garden! 🪴 Your enthusiasm is awesome!!! 😎 I’m so glad you treated yourself to a pretty area!! You worked so hard! I love it!! 😍
Heat wave last week, downright cold this week. That's Pure Michigan. Ill have to watch your previous videos. We have some poison ivy and this other creeper that also can cause rashes everywhere in our backyard
Hi Jodi, been following you since the beginning, but have never posted a comment before. I am a proud plant mom myself, and have had spider plants for years now. They are very easy to maintain. Just water them once a week, and don't put them in direct sunlight. My first ones had babies themselves, which I gave to friends and colleagues. I also have a pothos, and a hanging plant called a "wandering Jew/dude" (Latin name: Tradescantia zebrina, which is gorgeous and also easy, look it up), and much much more. The older I get, the more I enjoy seeing my plant babies grow bigger. Greetings from the Netherlands!
@@jodidunnmymessylife1847 They can also grow tiny flowers which can be purple or white. I've learned that they do like sunshine, but not direct. Enjoy your new plant baby!
your soil is clay heavy. You can amend it with sand and peat. 2 clay 1 peat 1 sand is good for better drainage. A Spading Fork is how you mix it in without a rototiller. Get a pole saw and you can trim some lower branches on your trees to allow light onto your hydrangeas.
Honestly that sounds like so much work 😂 I have thought about starting to amend but so far everything has done well in the existing soil so I’ll worry about that later ❤️
Your new garden spot looks beautiful! I really dislike when I try and plant something and there are so many tree rootsto deal with! We have had a lot of rain here. So much flooding! I hope you have a great week!
Wow! Great progress….heat is no joke! In Kentucky, we call that soil movement “erosion”! 🤣🤣🤣 Totally teasing!!!! I noticed you didn’t have a downspout extender….that may mess your mulch up! Don’t let your hard work go to ruin!!! Do y’all get a lot of rain? Maybe it’s a nonissue! 🤷🏻♀️
Yes erosion. Couldn’t think of that word 😂 Not typically but I’ll keep an eye on it to see if we need to add an extender. Thanks for pointing that out ❤️
That was fun!! My favorite part was when you said "I saw his face"!! You could identify him in a lineup😂😂.Everything is an adventure for you isn't it? Looks great.
OH my I have lots of shade too. I also live in Michigan.. Harrisville, a mile in from the lake , in a cottage in the woods.. I get the shade part! And we have sand.. all over sand! This used to be waterfront and that was centuries ago. We have dug up great fossils that you would find in the lake. So I have to be careful what I plant.
I love seeing Clarke in the background. He is one lucky dog. The deer in my back yard ring the doorbell and demand protection money. Love your shade garden very much!
That looks awesome Jodi! I was holding my breath and saying “oh no the poison ivy patch!” I remember from last year! I thought of you last week. The neighbor finally cut down the tree that broke off and hit our two houses in a storm recently. Our houses are right on top of each other. Well I tackled the small 4 ft area where nothing grew because of the darn tree (except weeds). I’m always uber cautious about poison ivy. Well there were no visible leaves at least. I raked out various weeds and roots. Scraped the inside of my left arm. Did the usual shower and put antiseptic on the scrape. Yup you guessed it! Poison ivy all over inside of my arm and then because if how I sleep got it all over my left side stomach/torso. Haven’t had it for decades. Sooooo miserable. 😵💫😵💫😵💫. Oh my the mole was hilarious especially under the plastic. I was waiting for you to wallop it with the shovel! 🤣 (I wouldn’t be able to either, but know what a nuisance they are in the yard and garden!) Love that fencing. I’ll look into that. Take care and happy gardening! 🌷🌹🌸
Oh no Emila! It is so miserable. I hope it heals up fast. That’s the real danger is there doesn’t even have to be leaves. Just touch the dang vines and you can get it 🤦♀️ Oh my gosh my husband said “did you take care of the mole?” I said oh yeah like I could ever do that 😂😂
You did an amazing job in your garden Jodi. It looks beautiful. It's funny you mentioned a mole in your yard. My husband has been working on a project for the past few months. And just this week he saw a mole for the first time in our yard.
Try watering your spider plants with distilled water. Plants don't like minerals and when they 'drink' them, the minerals get to the end of the leaf and get stuck. But they cause the cells to explode and the tip dies. Eventually, there won't be enough leaf left to trim if you keep cutting them down. May I suggest watching "Sheffield Made Plants" on YT? Rich lives in Sheffield England and he's very knowledgeable about house plants. And funny too. He'll tell you all about spider plants and many others. I would put the tall plant on the side. You might want to invest in a light meter to ensure they get enough light. I have a combo light/PH/water meter. Staying inside, doing my cross stitch and planning a fall garden. I heard the birds. Thank you. Hello to Mickey Mole. 🐭
Thank you 🤗 I’ve watched several of his videos. I have to give my prayer plants distilled water so I’ll be sure to do that with my spider plants too ❤️❤️
Hi Jodi! Think that little guy was a vole they're smaller & eat plant roots. Moles burrow under your lawn because they eat grubs that live under there. Not an expert just googled it. 😀
I just googled voles (never seen one) and that little guy in my yard was definitely a mole They almost look like they don’t have eyes. Kind of creepy looking 😂
Jodi, you did a great job in your shaded garden. It looks beautiful! It'll look even more beautiful when it all blooms & gets bigger! I love the little black fencing so cute! Boy, those were big roots. I did have some big roots in our garden. They were from our trumpets! They grow everywhere. We try & keep them maintained in the front planter! But they still grow all over! I can't do much outside work anymore. I just do planters & some aren't doing too well. But some are doing ok! It's been hot some here, too! We're in the desert🏜 Eastern Washington. It's dry heat!Well, thanks for sharing! ♥️☺️🫂🦉🐾🧵🪡🧶🌹🦋🍄🧩🌷🍄🐿🐦✨️

Well, I don't know how I missed this 2 months ago but I sure did. You have done such fantastic work. What I also missed was that your gardening shed is really cool with the overhead garage type door. I'm sure that comes in handy.

I am on your three of my garden, total transformation, removing trees, shrubs, at least 2 tons of River rock, pavers, fencing. Seeding. New perennials 😊. It’s exhausting, but it’s turning out to be quite beautiful. This should be my last transformation year and then I will just maintain it. I am just putting it back together so it should need very little maintenance.
Jodi your new shade garden bed looks beautiful! I have a similar garden fence that I got from Amazon last fall; mine is 4' tall, and it keeps the neighbor's dog out of my backyard.
Jodi , great job ! And in that heat , you go girl ! It looks like you could even put your stepping stones right up against your little fencing and that be part of the border and not worry about weeds in that little part and swing them towards the shed .
That looks great Jodi! I remember you getting poison oak from that flower bed. It's been so hot everywhere. I try to stay indoors and get things done inside.
I love this series! I have a black thumb, I kill everything but I love the idea of a big yard full of pretty plants and flowers and love to see the progress you make!
Everything is looking so pretty in your yard! You are quite the gardener and your channel has given me so much inspiration. My yard is looking great, too, which as a person who used to think I had a black thumb is quite something! It’s all from watching you do things and thinking if Jodi can do it I can, too! Small warning: I also planted a bunch of coleus in my back yard and something ate all of it! Maybe bunnies or deer.
Jodi, it looks so good! Have you considered Heuchera (Coral Bells)? They are like Hosta to me. Shady, leafy but flowering perennials that you periodically split. My favorites are the Dolce Silver Gumdrop and Dressed Up Evening Gown. I'm currently down the rabbit hole on DIY garden art since I got everything planted and am in maintenance mode until fall when clean up starts again. Last week I finally got my oak tree stump pile split for firewood and the rest of it removed (after 3 years of it being down, almost to the week.) Felt good to be done with yard projects for the season. So, of course a section of my fence fell over. Sigh. It's ONLY 38 years old. Ha! So, I took it apart, and now I have to call Miss Utility because I am temporarily putting up rolled bamboo over this section, and I KNOW the power to the garage is buried, just not sure exactly where.
I have. Several have suggested heuchera to me but I’ve had no luck finding it so far. I found some at Walmart and just didn’t love the color. Hopefully I can find some I like soon. Thanks for telling me your favorites so I can look for those ❤️
Hi Jodi! Your shade garden is so pretty! I love your hosta. Congratulations on the hydrangea! I used to have some but my husband “accidentally “ killed them! I’m still butt hurt over it! 😂 Over 4th of July, we are going to clear out our master bedroom and paint the walls. We are also going to pull up the 1980’s mauve carpet! It’s time! LOL There are hardwood floors underneath so I don’t know why we’ve waited this long!🤷♀️ I can’t wait to see the transformation!
Looks great! Because of you, I bought the larger root slayer. I love it! I’ve been working on several areas of my yard. Back garden with shrubs. Butterfly garden with all new perennials. I had 5 yards of mulch delivered. Pile is almost gone. My goal is to have everything planted and mulch by 4th of July weekend.
Jodi, another really good gardening channel, is Robbie on Visit Our Garden. He's so relatable and funny. Enjoyed todays video, it looks great! I would have ran when little Mr Mole came to visit.😂
I bought a HUGE spider plant in 2019 and had babies from that plant until 2023 when my last baby from it died. I haven't been able to find any in stores either. It's very frustrating. OMG! My daughter got blood drawn for an allergy test and she blurted out "That's preppy!". It was so blasted funny! She said after she didn't know why she said it and that it just came out. Me, the nurse and the other nurse that came to help were all cracking up! The space turned out amazing! I want to do all that kind of work but I have made myself not do it in the rental we are in and wait until we can buy a house. I do the minimum to help my plants grow and make it look decent but that's it for me for now. I can't wait to buy a house and really be able to do everything I've always wanted to do!
I grow Spider plants outside in the ground here in Las Vegas. They do well all year around, even at 112 degrees heat, which we had yesterday. 🥵 I have the regular striped ones and the reversed striped ones. I get tons of babies too! Good luck with growing yours Jodi!!! Fun to watch what you grow in your area. 😊
Hiya, just found your channel as it popped up on my home feed. The small mammal looked like a VOLE not a mole. It was probably confused when you removed all the weeds, and may have a little home under your walkway. They do not usually come into houses, and are vegetarians, mainly eating grass. So not an animal to worry about. Garden looked colourful after you had finished. Well done.
Thanks so much for watching 🤗 Could have been a vole but when I saw it’s face it had the super small (almost looks like they don’t have eyes) eyes 🤷♀️ I’m sure I have both in the yard as I have just about every critter 😂
Your video just popped up on my computer. I thoroughly enjoyed your garden makeover and your fun attitude. I need to watch your past videos to catch up. 😊
My Grandmother used to say spider plants brought bad luck to the house. 😮 She never had them because of that spoof. Lol 😅! It's way easier to work in the backyard when you have a beautiful garden back there. Good job Jodi, that heatwave was a tough one.
My question to you is, why are you adding annuals instead of perennials because they will not survive your winter, your hosta will, but the other ones won’t.
You know, I have been wanting to start my own vlogging channel I even went as far as starting to record stuff, then I thought to myself who is going to want to watch me cook and clean and water my garden and talk about the small things I am doing around my home....then I remember I have been watching you clean your back yard for a year now lol 😆😆😆

Oh my gosh isn’t gardening the best ❤️❤️
Very nice Jodi! Came together lovely ❤ hope to see it once everything has grown in.
Tea cup , awesome
The roots of trees are often 2-3times as long as the height of the tree. Those roots may likely be from the big trees at the back of the garden. Xxx
Yes! But which big tree 😂 I have so many

Ugh!! It’s just such a pain. I ended up hiring a professional to take care of mine but it’s so hard to get it all
It looks beautiful. Wonderful job.
It looks beautiful!!🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Spider plants like to be crowded in a pot. So don’t up pot them too quickly!
That needed to be tilled with all those roots.

You’d think that would be such an easy plant to find but I never see them 🤷♀️
Very beautiful Jodi. Great job 👏 👍
Oh how fun!!!
Well done.
Thanks so much for watching 🤗
Could have been a vole but when I saw it’s face it had the super small (almost looks like they don’t have eyes) eyes 🤷♀️
I’m sure I have both in the yard as I have just about every critter 😂
It looks beautiful Jodi 🌸💛🌸💛🌸💛
Hi, it looks fantastic, well done. I’ve been deep cleaning my bathroom today, I even washed the slatted blind in the bath. Lol
Hi Gillhanna 🤗 how wonderful. You got all the spots ❤️❤️
Your video just popped up on my computer. I thoroughly enjoyed your garden makeover and your fun attitude. I need to watch your past videos to catch up. 😊
Thank you so much Martha ❤️
My Grandmother used to say spider plants brought bad luck to the house. 😮 She never had them because of that spoof. Lol 😅! It's way easier to work in the backyard when you have a beautiful garden back there. Good job Jodi, that heatwave was a tough one.
Fantastic! My back would have been finished after the first root. That's why it takes me ages to do things.
I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get it. It was a pain in the butt!
My question to you is, why are you adding annuals instead of perennials because they will not survive your winter, your hosta will, but the other ones won’t.
I’m slowly adding perennials but I’ll always add annuals. Can’t beat the variety’s, colors and performance of annuals.
Hi jodie, u look like u have lost weight. Please don't think I am being rude as that's the last way I mean it. I think u look great ❤
Oh I didn’t take that as rude at all. Thank you so much Maria 🤗
Yet another great transformation👌🏻
Stump and vine killer by Bonide is great to stop roots/stumps from coming back

If that was me that saw that mole I would have ran hollering and screaming out of that yard you just sat there calmly lol not me.
😂😂😂 I figured he’d stay away from me. If it was a snake I would have run 🤣
It looks amazing!!! ❤
Beautiful. Loved that you left the big rocks.
I couldn’t move it if I tried 😂 it stays forever ❤️

You know, I have been wanting to start my own vlogging channel I even went as far as starting to record stuff, then I thought to myself who is going to want to watch me cook and clean and water my garden and talk about the small things I am doing around my home....then I remember I have been watching you clean your back yard for a year now lol 😆😆😆
Yep 😂😂😂 post it!! I love watching people clean, cook and garden ❤️
