- A day in the garden. I'm couniting the garden makeover this week as we get ready to host Alter'd State, a clothing brand on the Farm for a photo shoot. I am filling a few more pots on the back porch and I am DIY my used hanging basket with left over starts from our garden projects. Last I work on cleaning up the cottage greenhouse just in time to host our new guests. Its a fun packed week, with a wedding tossed in but worth the hard work and in the end we made some fantastic friends and the gardens look amazing.

We have similar brick in our garden and it is always full of weeds. I’m thinking of clearing it, using a pre-emergent and then after awhile, mixing soil and sand with creeping thyme seeds and filling in all the cracks.
PS Why do Brits hate our pronunciation of “dahlia”…we’re just following the pronunciation of their famous author’s last name

I enjoyed your video, especially the huge hanging basket. I have never been too successful with getting them really full and your tip about cutting the holes in the liner is fabulous. I have a hanging basket by my back door in the shady breezeway with hanging begonias, coleus, and variegated ivy, and a bird made a nest in it, so we have some feathered friends this year which was a nice surprise.

I have a few Austin roses that are loving life this year too...I think it was the .I'll winter we had here in Ontario, Canada.
Do you have any advice for making the stems stronger? My climbers always have weak stems on the new growth and I am not sure why!?
Do you have to fight with the bud worms there for your petunias and geraniums? I don’t enjoy having to use BT regularly, but it’s the only way I can grow those flowers.

I am looking for an orange rose similar to my Tangerine Skies Arborose, but without the huge, prolific thorns that tear into my hands even through my Felco gloves!. Can you suggest one or two? The David Austen website says the Roald Dahl rose has few thorns. Is that your experience?
