    FYI - for those asking, I don’t live in NY. I had to travel for this appointment so going back and asking them to fix it isn’t worth it for me at this point. Plus I don’t even feel comfortable going back there at this point 🙃.
    Also, please keep in mind that I NEVER straighten my hair (I haven’t straightened it in over 6 years). So devacuts are typically the best option for me. I know choppiness and unevenness can occur with devacuts and be more visible once your hair is straight but that is not something I have to deal with. My past devacuts we’re not this choppy or uneven while in its curly state and that is the point I was trying to make.

    Sorry about your cut. I’ve been going to Soho for last 2 yrs (6 times) and I did have one bad cut with stylist who, when I said I wanted to keep my length and grow out... “well how much more do you want it to grow!?” Mind you, I big chopped and had inch long hair in 2015, so it was only about chin length on this visit. She cut my hair like it was straight... in large sections, rather than curl by curl. I told her I could have got this cut at J C Penney. Of course the results were uneven and choppy. I pointed out to her another stylist doing a proper Deva-advertised cut, complained at front desk, and was scheduled the following weekend with the stylist I pointed out and a couple of full-sized products gratis. Since then I’ve stayed with her.
    It is important to let them know when you have any discomfort with the way things are going. $200 a shot entitles me to question stylist-if they get an attitude, they’re not the stylist for you.

    I got my devacut in the devachan in soho, and after she cut my hair its looked great until she styled it and when I got home I re styled it and I was disappointed, spending 150 dollars on a hair cut that really isn’t worth it. Fast forward to 2 months later since my hair has grown out the shape is better and the cut is better but I know better then to spend those type of coins again!

    Unfortunate
    When I had a devacut I wasn't madly in love with it because I had always had my hair blown out then cut. It was weird to have it cut in the curly state. I got a short tapered cut and it's been short for about 3yrs now. Btw I cut my own hair now (about every 3mos) and I love my hair. I don't think your hair looks bad however you know how you like it better than anyone. I have trust issues too.

    I asked to get my hair a little bit off my neck + layers and my stylist cut 3 inches off and didn't give me layers. I managed to get it fixed, but I am trying to grow out my hair and it went from nearly shoulder length (pulled straight) to not quite chin length. When I went in to get it fixed, she didn't even apologize. She just told me it's normal to freak out after a big chop. Like? I didn't freak out because my hair is short, I freaked out because I asked for a trim and you gave me a pixie cut.

  • @CurlyTuTimez

    😭😭😭 they definitely do treat you like you're clueless. You're so right for the most part they are only familiar with their own brand which is unfortunate. I had 4 unsatisfactory experiences with 2 stylist in my area. Last devacut was nov 2017. Devacuts seem to just be snip where they like not necessarily for all over evenness. 3 of my cuts were decent, one was too short 🙄 but the devacurl styling products DO NOT work for MY low porosity hair. I give up on them until they add hydrating stylers without coconut and proteins.

    I'm thinking when your hair didn't have product in it or the way you style your hair causes a different amount of shrinkage. So for a example when they styled it your curls on the left side were more elongated so they couldn't tell the choppiness. Then when go home and style the way you do your hair makes the curls shrink more in certain areas. I noticed that when I got my Deva cut. Even though she cut a lot of hair off I could tell my curls didn't shrink as much. So when I did my hair at home the shrinkage was too real and some of my looser areas were longer. So what I do after my hair is dry is a go in and stretch and shape my hair. I hope that helps you too! 😭

      This is why i would never let anyone cut my hair. My hair is HP and is completely different wet to dry to with products. Add different curls and shrinkage across my head and only I know how to trim it. It would take a lot to get me to give scissors to anyone else!!

  • @cheralewhite8253
    @cheralewhite8253 5 лет назад

    Oh man, I can't comment unfortunate. Only because I kind of wanted to tear up at hearing your story. And have to give you major kudos for just feeling unsatisfied with your cut. Cause although it's not super noticable and you can likely blend it. But still, your hair has always been positively gorgeous and healthy since I began seeing your channel. So to have it messed up at all, is just really heartbreaking to me.
    It also reminded me of when I got my hair "trimmed"/"tapered" back in Feb. And that dude totally had some kind of shaving a sheep dog fantasy. Cause it was like no trim I've ever had. Had my coils picked out like crazy. And he took clippers and shaved too deep into the coil, that there was barely anything I could do with it once I got home(even after washing, conditioning, and moisturizing it). Totally led me to not even wanting me to look at my own hair for 2 days. As I just could not believe I had lost 6 months of growth in 1 day like that. And I was back to a length where I could not even do anything with my hair at all. The only thing that pulled me out of my funk about it, was getting on here and learning how to finger coil. And thank the lord that my hair in it's infinite awesomeness at being able to take any kind of curl well, I was able to pull off those finger coils for quite a while.
    And although I get what you are saying about making sure to talk to the stylist about what they are doing and going on. Which is very true. But I still feel like, sometimes you want to just give someone the benefit of the doubt and trust they are a true professional. And won't jack up your head.

  • @Listen2me400
    @Listen2me400 5 лет назад +2

    Important to note that if you wear your hair curly, a devacut may be right for you because it is more of a choppy cut. If you straighten your hair after a devacut you will notice it that it is uneven. In your case it is noticeable that it was not cut correctly. UNFORTUNATE!!! 😔
    On another note, this pic of me is with the UFD and my flaxseed Eco with castor oil.

    It's all about shape and not eveness with the deva cut. If it's looking choppy curly, imagine straight. I think most people after they get their hair done they do a quick look and look more closely when they get home because we fear if we don't like it, it would get awkward and we need to stop it. I'm curious about the dry cut...recently visited a DevaCurl certified stylist who insisted on dry-cutting my daughters' hair. We specifically stated that we did not wish for their hair to be cut/shaped, just treated...however, the stylist took out her scissors and snipped away. It was disheartening as she violated our wishes. In addition, dry-cutting their afro-textured hair was not wise considering that their ends tend to shrink and curl into each other (4c hair especially), which means that when dry, 2-3 inches of hair could be rolled up into what appears to be a little ball..."trimming" that little ball will in fact become "cutting". Afro-textured hair needs to be stretched in some way in order for the stylist to accurately see if he/she is actually trimming/cutting/shaping the hair. Wet or dry, it seems that some stylists are more concerned about how artistic they are with cutting rather than what the client requests. My girls walked away looking like fur balls. Their hair was crunchy as crackers...that NEVER happens with our personal regimen. We re-washed and used our usual processes when we got home in order to restore their hair to some semblance of what it was prior to arriving at the salon. I'm a certified hair practitioner (which I never mentioned to the stylist), so I understand the needs of hair in general...all the advice that we were given was "counter" healthy hair...The stylist had no clue!

    I got a devacut last year and was disappointed as well. I had the same experience about them asking what products I use and them not knowing what they are. I also felt the person who cut my hair disapproved of the products I use which is mostly shea moisture. I didn't like that basically they want you to use deva products all the time but I guess that's to be expected. I do occasionally wear my hair straight so in the end I realized the devacut is not for me. Luckily, I went to a devacut specialist and not the devachan salon in soho so I paid much less.

    Unfortunate * I never had a deva cut before however I saw lots of reviews I really didn't like how they cut freestyle. When my hair was relaxed my stylist really took her time and made sure she cut it evenly all over. I think it's really hard for people to cut curly hair.

      At Least is only that part and can be fixed... One time when I was like 14 I was in a salon because a wanted a trim, this lady start to cut it...then I saw what happened to my hair.. it was at my shoulders and my hair was long... that why I cut my hair...

    unfortunate. i definitely feel your pain because i got a deva cut last august and it was uneven as well 😩😩. like you said it looked good when i was looking at it in the salon but then when i got home and actually styled it myself i could notice how uneven it was. i made it work tho and it wasnt that bad afterwards

    Unfortunate 😭 I don’t think it looks bad though. Your curls hide the choppiness well, and I think it’s something that is more noticeable to you than anyone else. Your hair still looks wonderful ❤️
    My hair lays so differently day to day that one day my hair will look layered but with a decent U-shaped hemline, and the next it’ll look ragged 😂 and I have a bunch of textures on my head from 2c-4a (mixed race problems, lol). Which means that if I wear my hair down in a natural state it looks like a drunken two-year-old did my hair. So I just keep it in a somewhat stretched state to even things out and embrace the wild look and variable hemline if I’m going to wear my hair down. Friends say I pull off that look well, and *anytime I get frustrated with my hair I just remind myself that life is not a Pantene commercial.*

    Unfortunate...😢. I feel your pain. I just Big chopped last month. Horrible dry cut and heat damage. Then had to cut it again because it was so uneven and the shape was VERY unattractive. Just cut for the third time yesterday to taper it more but noticed today, it’s still shorter on one side 👿. I’m leaving it alone and dealing with it. But I love love love your videos and your vibe overall and I look forward to more. You look good though. 😘

    • @LydiaTefera
      @LydiaTefera  5 лет назад

      I would say trims are a little better than asking for layers. There’s less room for error with trims but then again it all depends on the stylist. I would recommend maybe trimming your ends on your own so they don’t become too dead!

    UNFORTUNATE: Girl, I went to DevaChan & they did the same crap to me! I didn’t get the full spectrum of the “cut” until I got home. I ended up going to my favorite Dominican salon & they gave me a real layered-cut. Thank God, hair grows back!

    Unfortunate! I feel your pain. I had a bad experience with a stylist many years ago and that’s why to this day I do not trust anybody in my hair. I’ve been natural for 17 months and in that 17 months nobody has touched my hair except me. I’m sure there are great stylist out there but I don’t know any personally and I feel really really reluctant to go to someone that I don’t know. So I get what you’re saying but actually your hair does look great. You have really really beautiful hair anyway. But I know why you are a bit disappointed. It will grow back.
