I too feel the Batman fatigue, and this is coming from someone whose favorite character is Batman. Best Batman title has been world’s finest imo
Honestly, I just want to see Batman be a hero again. I think modern writers should take inspiration from Batman the Animated Series.
After Tom king’s Batman I’ve tried getting back into the main titles, rn I feel like writing wise Batman hasn’t recovered, and it’s gotten more, bleh.
Dc’s successfully pushed me away sadly.
Btw, joker’s known Bruce was Batman since death of the family.
yah batman has always been the face of dc and to me he's fanbase are questionable.
The previous arc of Zdarsky's batman, Gotham war, is one of those once in a while stories that really just makes you want to bleach out your eyes. It's so bad it really just makes me never want to pick up a batman comic again. I think the last time I read something that bad was Heroes in Crisis.
It wasn't even just Zdarskys story and even then his end was mostly fine
Yeah I read the first part of Gotham War and thought the premise was so dumb so I didn't read the rest.
@@jlpgamin dunno man, I see absolutely nothing good about the story, even Zdarsky's part. Every single character is acting extremely out of character, the implementation of Zur is very clumsy, and the whole concept falls to pieces if you think about it for half a second. It's terribly written slop with the only good thing about it being the art in the issues Jimenez drew.
remember jason aaron was pretty good on some Wolvie comics back in the 90s. idk about nowadays though.
The Current Batman story was actually not bad love failsafe as a villain
Look, I’m used to comic book BS, but they really lost me at the “poison ivy created lipstick that makes it so after a couple days you’ll seem like you’re dead but you’re actually not“. Ignoring how ridiculous that sounds, why would Ivy care? Yes she and Selena are kind of friends, And like most criminals in Gotham I’m sure there’s at least some level of respect for Batman as an opponent, but would she benefit from Batman being out of the picture?
The Batman escape heist could've been so cool but they botched it, the whole thing comes off as messy and lame.
Joker's known that Bruce Wayne was Batman (and the identities of the Bat-Family) since Morrison.
I remember him knowing his identity during the Morrison era, but then the New 52 happened and we had the whole Death of The Family and Endgame thing where it's treated like a shock that Joker knows Batman is Bruce. Also, as someone pointed out in another comment, most recently it was treated as a big reveal in Joker War that Joker knows his secret identity. Man I'm just so lost as to what is still intact post Rebirth lol.
@@TheRealComicBookGamer Yeah, that's part of why I didn't vibe with Snyder's Batman a lot. I felt like he kept retreading Morrison stuff. But King, Tynion, Johns and Tomasi(?) leaned into the idea of Joker always knowing since then. But most of it's a blur tbh lol
Zdarsky's Batman is awful but hey, at least it's not King-level.
Agreed. Zdarksy's run is more "this is lame and dumb", to where King's was just straight up character assassination.
Batman hasn't been good since Court of Owls
I agree Three Jokers was underwhelming. Seemed like a cool premise but it lacked any real gravity.
Should’ve wore the Zur En Arrh skin
Joker has known Batman is Bruce Wayne since Joker War in 2020 when he stole the Wayne fortune
I tried to erase Joker War from my memory....
@@TheRealComicBookGamer 😆 dang. I found Joker fine if forgettable.
Me personally I’ve really been enjoying Zdarsky’s Batman run. There’s a lot for the mind to engage with if you’re clued in. But you have to read it from the beginning to really get into it. Mind Bomb is kinda the crux/turning point arc building on everything that preceded it. I’d say if you’re really “Batman’d-out” atm, probably best to wait until the run is finished and collected. Same with Ram V’s Detective.
@@MP.860 I didn't care for how he used Harley, plus Tynion constantly introducing new characters got annoying fast. Joker War definitely isn't the worst Batman story but I really didn't care for it. I read the first couple of issues of Zdarsky's run but I got put off by Failsafe. Failsafe was just so lame and uninteresting to me. I'm interested to see what Zdarsky does after this whole Zur/Failsafe era is over.
@@TheRealComicBookGamer oh yeah Harley was Batman’s babysitter for much of the story 😆
I like Failsafe. I like the deconstruction of the “Batgod” concept and Bruce having to face an ultimate amoral version of himself. But I get that it’s not for everyone. Batman is such a versatile character the some aspects of his mythos appeal to some fans but not others. I wouldn’t hold your breath though on Zur/Failsafe ending as that is the overarching story of Zdarsky’s run.
Like FailSafe literally is batman preptime 100%
Jokers know Bruce is Batman since the new 52 Endgame. Three Jokers basically got taken care of in Jokers solo book so it's one Joker and the story itself isn't canon but the Justice League reference in the new 52 is
Thought all that got washed away with Rebirth?
@TheRealComicBookGamer no the new 52 was still canon even during Rebirth and is still canon post Death Metal
The fact that Joker knows Batman's identity was revealed in the Scott Snyder run. If I'm not mistaken.
Personally speaking i don't like Batman nor Detective Comics right now.
Zdarsky's Batman takes too much inspiration by Grant Morrison's Batman that is Batman's most overrated run ever and bad storylines like Three Jokers (great art but the story is awful, Geoff Johns apparently didn't understand Killing Joke at all and the finale is simply dogshit).
We need someone working on the main titles that takes inspiration from the best period of Batman ever (1986-2000) or at least takes inspiration from the VERY best writers the character ever had like O'Neil, Englehart, Wein, Moench, Grant or Dixon
Yeah 3 jokers just felt needless, seemed like a fine idea but we didn’t need it
That's super annoying Zdarsky is still running Failsafe and Zur-En-Arh. Both of those characters became boring so quickly and are also the reason I dropped the Batman book.
Dc and marvel needs reboots, they milk characters so bad they become so inconsistent in scaling and etc
What are your thoughts on tomkinh wonderwoman
Looks horrible but I haven't read it so I don't have an opinion at the moment.
