  • This is my The Last Voyage of the Demeter Movie Review, and today I tell you why it is a missed opportunity, even though there are some shining moments. This is my Spoiler Free The Last Voyage of the Demeter Dracula Movie Review and Reaction. Did you enjoy this Dracula Movie?
Based on a single chapter, the Captain's Log, from Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel "Dracula", the story is set aboard the Russian schooner Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo - 24 unmarked wooden crates - from Carpathia to London. The film will detail the strange events that befell the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a terrifying presence on board the ship. When it finally arrived near Whitby Harbour, it was derelict. There was no trace of the crew.

❓What is the BEST Horror movie of the year so far?

  • @nathancardenas2719

I loved it. I wished it was promoted more. A universe built around this style would have been perfect over that pathetic attempt with the mummy a few years ago.
And I also don't mind the generic jump scares. I think we can have fun generic, but still creative Dracula movies such as this, and still look forward to nuance and interesting takes like Renfield and the upcoming Nosferatu film

It was promoted enough. Universal should never have opened it now(instead of October where it belongs) against Barbie and Oppenheimer.

This was actually better than it deserved to be. I really enjoyed this. The characters are stand out and Dracula’s design is cool.

Dracula on a boat is still better than snakes on a plane.

I actually had lots of fun watching this. I didn’t think it was a slow buildup. I thought it was intriguing and suspenseful. It only slowed down when something happens to that young character and I thought the final act wasn’t as exciting as it should’ve. I thought they didn’t use the ship setting to the best of their ability. I thought the plan to wait for nighttime to attack was super stupid as they planned during the day and should’ve attacked right then and there. However, I was very entertained. I think general audiences will enjoy.

They should have had Nic Cage's Dracula from Renfield on the ship. Now that's what I want to see! 😂

The writing was sub par and it was too bad that the dialogue was not even half as good as the execution of the visuals. This movie was beautiful to look at and the actors delivered!
However, it was too on the nose that Clemens was spared from Dracula simply because he was black. Clemens is an awesome hero and deserves a better storyline. It was too obvious from 1) the soap box speech about how the world didn't make sense to him because of the racism he experienced and 2) because Dracula is soo overpowered in this film but did not kill Clemens simply because he was black. I would have written a far richer backstory for Clemens something to show how he already escaped from or battled similar monsters in his life and is able to use those skills to survive against Dracula.

Loved it as I’m really into gothic/period horror. Top notch cinematography, acting, sound design, creature design…everything. It’s a shame Universal Pictures dumped it into their August slate…it should have been an October release. It’s not that slow…it offers up something missing from most horror films…character development.

This movie was good in my opinion but only just good, not amazing but not terrible. I found it to be very sad and very deep emotional sad scenes 😭 (SPOILER COMING UP):
The dog and animals getting killed broke me since I love animals so much and my cat passed away right in front of me in 2019 so it’s hard for me to see scenes of animals dying. And I did not expect the kid to die, that was so heartbreaking, so sad

Hi, a slight side track but still in the realm of movies; could you consider creating a tribute to the late and amazing Kevin Conroy? He passed away last year, and was the sole reason I got into acting. On MsMojo there was a video about the best voice acting in animate d movies and I think he should've been included for his role in Batman the Mask of Phantasm (the scene at the cementary). I have a VA background and there are some preconceived notions that it's not as demanding as regular acting; but the vocal training itself and perfecting the craft may take more time than any acting school. l feel like he's very underrated as Batman (ditto Mark Hamill as Joker) and even non existent in the conversation. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)

This movie is really, really scary. This should’ve starred Nicholas cage though my only gripe. This is the better Dracula movie this year. The story and execution are all there, and so is the atmosphere.

Here's where the movie lost me. You've established there's "something" on the ship killing at least 1/night. If you value you life - at this point - there should be no more surprises. What do I mean? You got characters walking around, in the haul, at night, bumping into each other and surprise/scaring each other. NO! At this point you should know exactly where ever onboard who still alive is at at all times. Moving in groups if not the whole group. When the movie FINALLY establishes that everyone is aware and accepts there is a killer on board why in the F is ANYONE walking around alone! Also, they've been shown multiple times the one sure way to kill it, but there's not even a conversation as to how to use that?

From the premise and atmosphere - this had 'potential' to be better I guess? It has a preset 'winning formula' with a "insert a Monster of choice" option. I could see a Hero going up against a Chupacabra or WereWolf...all wrapped up in 90 minutes for best results! I did see the "Autopsy of Jane Doe" - same direction, similar narrative - could have been better too😉😊

Might be seeing this tonight. Unrelated, but austin, you have got to watch The Pod Generation. It’s got a limited release, but just trust me on this 😂 idk if it’ll get a lot of people to watch, but it’s a movie you’ll probably enjoy seeing in the theater it’s very intriguing premise and as far as sci fi movies go we don’t have too many these days trying to really make the audience think in this way in my opinion. I didn’t know anything about it just decided to go see it, was the only one in the theater, but it was great

I have to wait to see this until it’s streaming. I need timestamps available so I can put on a blackout mask during scenes with flashing lights 😬but I really, REALLY want to like it.
Unfortunately, I’ve read the actual captain’s log from the novel, and I feel like that’ll ruin the movie for me a bit. I feel like the best things about the written version are the exact things that wouldn’t translate well to the screen. The captain’s voice in the ship’s log is distinct- straightforward but never callous- but on screen, he’d be incredibly boring. His account of events is the antithesis of theatrics. It’s a very short, but VERY effective, portion of the novel.
    Spoilers but also question below:
Please please PLEASE tell me they show us the final imagery of the captain’s body as described in the novel, it’s the one thing I DESPERATELY want to see played out on a screen. In the novel, he’s found after he’s already been dead for a while. He had tied his own hands to the ship’s wheel, tightening the rope with his teeth, with his palms together and a rosary clutched between them. The man legit strapped himself into a praying pose while staying at the helm, not even in hopes of surviving, but in hopes of mercy upon his death. It’s the creepiest detail of the whole thing to me. I. NEED. TO. SEE. THAT.

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, the critics say it's horrible, but love Wauconda forever! That's a joke! It seems if your not showing racism and being woke it's not a great movie! It is the best horror film of the year and I can't wait for part 2, I wish they would do Dracula untold part 2, but I have a large TV and a speaker system and I didn't turn on the speaker system only because I wanted to get a true feel of the movie and I thought it was great! I was literally sad when Dracula got Toby and it passed me off! The movie was great that's my take on it! I didn't see anything generic about it other than the way we live now and the way they lived back then, but it's supposed to be that way, it wouldn't be right if they had cell phones in the 1800s .

i'm with you when it comes to killing animals for cheap sentiment. Animal cruelity is not artistic or imaginative its cheap. If writers were more imaginative then I would maybe have empathy over their strike. But really? you people rely on killing pets to get some emotional response? Its old and tiresome and definitely cheap.

This was by far the WORST vampire movie I've ever seen too many mistakes like the woman who got bit never turned into one and she was able to walk in the sun thru out the whole movie but at the end all of a sudden she ships herself out to sea and then the sun comes out and she burns to death. And then the crew was to stupid enough to check the cargo for the vampire only to do this in mid to end of the movie The movie just drags on was so lame no back story to it not enough gore to much A.I being done in this movie it was so cheesy I decided to go home and make cheesy mac n bacon casserole I had more pleasure eating my cheesy mac and bacon casserole then I did of this hideous and yet bad acting piece of crap movie I want my money back. 2/10
