Last Christmas I made these for family members using clean old shirts and ties of my husband. He passed in August 2022. Family members were overjoyed to have them for the holiday and remember him during the holidays. Some of the ties had metallic thread which helped to make the ornaments look more festive for the holiday,
That is a great idea to reuse clothing! We are sorry to hear about his passing. He probably appreciates you doing this for him!❤️ Great that your family enjoyed them. I bet with the metallic thread they were gorgeous! Thanks for your comment! - Abby
An often overlooked hanger for crafted ornaments is lightweight fishing line. Just thread through a needle with a large enough eye and punch through fabric and you have an invisible hanger that helps to make your ornament look like it is floating.
I made about 100 of these from construction paper at about 12 ins. at school one year to decorate for the Christmas program. Had a bunch of 5th grade girls helping me. We had a blast. Can't wait to make some from fabric. Only a more reasonable size.
This was a lot of fun to make. I did have a bit of confusion as to how to turn the points to glue them, so I researched it and noticed a sort of flip so that the opposite top side makes the point. Whew! Then I made one to figure out how the colors mix, it is very tricky. Probably most people would notice that little flip and turn, but it for some reason was not natural to me 🌝. Really fun video and I have a really pretty tree topper as I made it in a 12 inch size, and a smaller one at 6 inches.
We're so happy to hear that your family loved them! There's nothing better than handmade gifts that can be cherished for years to come. Let us know how this project goes. :) Thank you for watching. - Morgan
I've made these in cardstock, but never thought of doing these in fabric, I'm glad I found your video. Your instructions are easy to follow. I will definitely be making (a lot) these. Thank You for sharing your Time, and Talent with all of us.
I made one of these for an ornament exchange at work and one for a great friend at work. They turned out great. After Christmas day, but while my tree was still up I made some for myself. I also cut some squares down to 5in. Took me a few minutes to do the math for the strips and actually ended up with an extra strip. Live the smaller size. I Love Your Tutorials.
Thank you so much for watching, Faye! These are great gifts, and they do look so cute in smaller sizes! We're so happy it worked well for you and you enjoyed these. Let us know if there's a specific project you'd like to see! - Morgan
I make these Scandinavian stars in basket staves or reeds and found your tutorial in fabric. This opens up a wider variety of color. Love it. Can't wait to get my supplies and start. Great tutorial, thank you.
A while ago you adapted a Christmas star usually made of paper into a fabric star using this technique. I took your idea and two years ago I did these snowflakes/stars exactly like this!! They are still intact and looking great. I decorated some of them with beads and rhinestones. Gave many away as package toppers to be used later as ornaments!! I was wondering why you didn't have a video like this. Thanks for this idea to adapt paper crafts to fabric using heat and bond. I will do some Scandinavian hearts next.
So good to hear that they're still in tact two years later! They really do last when made this way! We also love the idea to use these as package toppers! Thanks so much for watching. We'd love to hear how your projects go. Replicating paper crafts with fabric is actually pretty simple and is so much fun! So glad we could inspire you. - Morgan
Thank you so much for watching! This would be a great addition to a gift bag! We love that idea. Thanks for sharing that with us. Let us know if you make these. - Morgan
We're not sure why it's called a Scandinavian Star but this style of weaving is often referred to as a Scandinavian style. Funny how things like that come about, isn't it? So glad you like it! Thank you for watching. - Morgan
Yes, exactly! There are so many beautiful fabric choices. We're going to be gathering Christmas fabrics as they come out this next year with this project (and so many others) in mind! Thanks for watching, Angela! - Morgan
Thank you so much! I want to make these for my grandchildren. I have been wandering how they were made. Love your tutorials; thanks for taking the time.
You're so welcome! That will be such a special gift for your grandchildren! I'd love to hear how it goes for you. Let me know if you have any questions. - Morgan
You are a life saver. I lost this pattern, and was trying to reconstruct it. The only difference is I fuse the fabric to both sides of poster board to stiffen it up
Thank you for that tutorial. What a lovely ornament! I love the idea of personalizing it with someone's favorite characters as suggested in another comment.
You're so welcome Yvonne! So happy to hear that you've been inspired all year long, and we hope to keep inspiring you! All of us from Shabby Fabrics wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Thank you for sharing this! Your tutorials are easy to follow because you give good, detailed instructions. Love this project and as a beginner it showed me that I can do this.
Couldn’t wait to make this and loved it! Taking it to my quilt club Christmas party this week to share. We are exchanging home made ornaments! Thank you!🌲😊
Wow! I love and going to make it. Also Jen wanted to tell you I made 14 of the no sew quilted ornaments for Christmas for gifts. 2 were for my granddaughters. I found a baby pattern and Disney’s Frozen and 2 San Francisco Giants. Thank you so much!
So glad you like the video, Sherry! When you make these do let us know how it goes for you! We'd love to see pictures if you want to share. Also, those fabric choices sound perfect. I'm sure your granddaughters will love them and that's such a special keepsake they can have for their lives. Thank you so much for sharing with us and for watching! - Morgan
Great little ornament. Thank you for taking the time to make a video tutorial. I bet the Crop o dile could make the hole? I'll have to make one of these to see if it works. Thank you.
Thank you , you are NOT over wordy in explanation . This type of ornament lets tree lights shine through. Too often with solid ornaments, they create black areas when only tree lights ,is the only lights on. Looks fun. easy , Will have to see if the backing is available incase we have a rail road strike, and nothing comes for some time, or Prices will go up even MORE. I have seen fabric ribbon in stores, but usually gets not sold. Would the fabric Ribbon work just as well?
We're happy this project inspires you! We haven't tried this with fabric ribbon, but we * may * have a tutorial in the near future creating an ornament with it, so stay tuned! -Michelle
When gluing the two sides together you are supposed to pull the "arm" piece down so that there is nothing to cut off. this creates a slite tension in the middle woven pieces that gives the snowflake some volume in the middle.
Seriously, has anyone ever told you that you look like Neve Campbell? You are just stunning and totally give her a run for the money! :-) Thanks for the phenomenal tutorials! I am just learning to sew, I crochet and knit, so seeing one that says "No Sew" I am all on board! haha Cheers

I made them from my dad’s shirts last year. He died in 2019. I have used them to make a different ornament each year.
