What is your favorite film in the franchise? I think the second is mine!
Same here
War of the planet of the apes for me.
War for the mine caesar's death is emotional
The original 1968 film or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Second for me too . I liked a lot of 3.
Sadly Malcolm, the main human character from the second movie was apparently killed between the second and third movies. He met up with Colonel McCullough and attempted to convince him that Caesar was not just an animal, but also a great leader and wanted to be left alone. McCulloughl saw him as a traitor to mankind, and executed him via gunshot to the head
Damn i never knew that. Did Matt Reeves reveal that?
@@madladexe9450 Movie's novelization. Movies tend to skip over some details for runtime
@@madladexe9450book
@@PridamIts also shown in a deleted scene. I've seen it on RUclips
Well, considering how “well” his persuasion skills were in the second movie, it probably wasn’t the best argument.
Rocket’s character progression is one of the best in this series. He went from being Caesar’s rival at the beginning of Rise to being fully prepared to die for him in this.
caesar humbled him pretty quick in the first movie they weren't really rivals
What's funny is the guy who played him, Terry Notary was Tim Roth's double for Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes, and he was Kong in Skull Island, and Gordy in NOPE. Seeing a pattern here? XD I loved him as Cull Obsidian in IF and Endgame, too
@@kylewestlake982 Daamn.......dude is more ape than human😅
That’s why rocket is my 2nd favorite character
The thing is the originals already have their own prequels... Escape, Conquest and Battle for the planet of the Apes.
Escape shows a original Origin of Caesar, Conquest would kind of sit as an alternative Rise or set just after Rise (if Rise was taken in a different direction) while Battle is more or less the same as War but with a less clear cut delineation between the two sides.
So they are kinda remakes, although they can sit along side or in companionship with the originals and not really be an issue.
Rocket started out not liking Caesar at all to becoming his most loyal ape/brother. Legitimately never wanting to leave Caesar’s side. Absolutely loved seeing their relationship throughout the trilogy. This was a great reaction guys!
Yeah, in their first meeting in the "sanctuary" (and I use the term loosely here), Rocket was like "Who is this new stranger? He smells a lot of humans, and has human clothes! And acts strangely! I show him who the Top Ape is here!" and then went in the course of movies to basicaly worshipping the ground Caesar walks on. 😀
@@veronikamajerova4564 I mean I see why, caesar showed him who's boss and not hit him any more than he had to. He also treated rocket with respect, showing mercy for what he did in the beginning to him, and caesar lead really well. So, definitely that would be the leader you want to follow and die for
@@umershaikh7179 that was also before he basically gave him intelligence and freed them all from human dominance. That'd bring anyone around.
Yep. Him and Maurice have been here day 1. Since the ape revolt.
It’s always the gorillas making the biggest sacrifices for Caesar. First Buck, then Luca, to an extent Red Donkey. Gorillas are great.
Yeah 😢
gorillas are planet of the ape's equivalent to Star Wars Heavy trooper.
I wonder how the chimps end up under the Orangutans in social status (as seen in the original movie)
@@ChibiHoshiDragon Chimps probably are like the average citizen while orangutans are more akin to scholars. They just have that look to them. Wise creature.
@@itsturniptime3699
I took them to be more Clergy than Scholars, given Cornelius was the one who was performing scholarly research
Andy Serkis absolutely kills the facial acting in all 3 movies but this is the movie where his acting truly shines. Serkis is one of the best
smeagol or Gollum, pick one
He is _the_ best mocap actor. He deserves an Oscar for the work he’s done in this field. As an actor you get to feed off the environment and other actors to bring forth your best acting; Serkis is confined in a room with only a green screen and cameras, surrounded by other actors dressed in mocap and holding sticks, and he acts it out of the park in all his roles.
As for the guy from the last movie the colonel mentioned him to Caesar in their conversation. Malcolm tried to talk the colonel out of trying to go after Caesar and told him Caesar was a great leader. But the colonel dismissed his argument and killed Malcolm.
If malcolm was not killed off, i bet he and caesar would have worked together to take down the colonel and save the apes
Noooo!!!!! really?!?? 😢
Poor man, I know it would've been hard and with low success rate, but I'd done as the deserters and try off living aside on my own with my family. Also, after how well things went with the first group, I wouldn't have taken my chances with a new one, much less knowing it's run down by a militia.
I’ve never caught this cause he never mentions his name and now I’m devastated
Matt revees even confirmaed this detail in a behind the scene of war for the planet of the apes.
Fun fact: The gorilla Winter is actually based off the first and as of now the only white gorilla ever to exist named Snowflake. He was born in the wild and taken into captivity after his mother was killed by poachers. Where he became a celebrity in the zoo in Barcelona. Where he sired multiple children up to 22 children (though six survived to adulthood) and became a grandfather of 21 grandchildren (11 survived) and eight great-grandchildren however none of them were albino like him. Sadly however he gotten skin cancer and after a tough battle the zoo had to put him down on November 24 2003 at the age of 40 years old. But his legacy lives on with a statue of him in the zoo as well as a documentary devoted to him, movies and musicians making songs in honor of him.
It is a great conclusion to a great trilogy. The second film is the best, but all three are very good. It is rare for a remake/reimagining to be better than the original.
This film is the best.
The second one is the best because the first film felt like a prequel, not a pilot film to a trilogy
Totally agree with your entire statement !
There coming out with a 4th Movie. Kingdom of the planet of the Apes. It’s going to be Cornelius all grown up going on his own adventure.
It’s for 2024
It's very heartbreaking that Caesar loses his wife and older son to humans in this movie. Also very sad that Caesar himself had to die in the ending, he was a great character.
He returned to peace with his family and Will and his family too
Caesar is pretty much an analogy of Moses - leading his people to the promised land knowing he likely wouldn't make it.
Does that count as fridging?
I really hate they killed off Caesar’s wife and son Blue Eyes, and of course Caesar himself 😢, but at least Rocket, Maurice, Nova, Cornelius, Bad Ape, and Lake all survived. Can’t wait for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 🦍🦧
At least, Caesar can be with his family in the afterlife; even his human one
That movie looks good so far
I know the third movie wasn't my favorite movie of the Trilogy. So sad, and harmful.
In many ways, Caesar's life mirrors the life of Moses. It's a powerful story arc. Caesar led his people to the promised land but couldn't go with them.
I really like the Simeon Flu mutation as a subplot to this movie because it calls back to the original 1968 movie, where the native humans of that era couldn't speak and none of the apes knew why as "their speech organs were adequate". This was a brilliant way to explain why.
It was literally the debate of the time.
Darwin's belief was that apes can't talk due to poor neuro control; inadequate brain power.
Lieberman pushed the theory that apes do not have the physical ability and his research was in the 60's. (molds of cadavers and extrapolations)
For the past 40+ years Liberman's experiments have been the backbone of the debate/education until recently, where Darwin's theory is again taking the fore with newer evidence to support the neurological
I love how we only interact with DONKEY when he's beating/torturing Ceasar but that one act of sacrifice absolves him and you understand him even more. He didn't die a traitor. The best consistent Trilogy of this century
remove of this century. Make it of forever
just to let you guys know Maurice spoke in the last movie after Koba shot Caesar he told the guy his wife their son and that black guy to run before they were killed please let me know what you think
Rocket was an A1 soldier a true knight and Maurice was Ceasar's trusty and wise advisor and counselman. For a King or Leader to be successful he needs these guys they played there roles to perfection.
Maurice was definitely my favourite character throughout the whole trilogy
He’s the GOAT but a APE lol 😆
Kind of interesting if you think about the original movies.
Orangutans were the top dogs with all the knowledge; chimps were lower class, in it
Maurice: “Do you think they will give him the message?”
Caesar: “They are the message, Maurice. He will see that we are not savages.”
And he’s totally gonna give a shit too. 👍
It sems like you missed the part, that "bad ape" is what the humans called him in the zoo, thats why he think he`s name is bad ape. Thats real tragic. The ape named her nova by the sign he had in his hand, its a part of the chevrolet nova emblem (a car).
The only thing that’s known about the new movie as of now is the title and the release date. The film is titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and is set to be released next year.
The little girl, Nova, appeared in the first Planet of the Apes (1968) movie, as an adult
Not that little girl since they are over 1000 years apart.
NOT the same Nova
The original movie is set in 3978 as per the ship dashboard when it crashes. (3955 if you take Beneath the PotA's retcon)
MANY generations later
Hell, The new movie Kingdom will be set 300 years later.
She isn't, but the name is a call back, same as Ceasers Mom was called Bright Eyes, Ceasars name being the child of Zira and Cornelius (another name call back)
The Alpha Omega is a reference to Beneath the Planet of the Apes (First sequel in the original series)
No she didn't. In the PotA universe, all human females are always named "Nova". This movie establishes why, with the first ever Nova. The original Nova won't even be born until well over 2000 years later.
Cornelius is going to be the main character in the next movie.
Hell yeah 😏
If you know the original series, then you know what is coming with Cornelius. He IS his father's son.....😏.
@@bryce253 Pardon?
@@SilverScribe85 if u knew the original planet of the apes franchise then you know what Cornelius story is
@@shadowx8145 Nova's too.
My only issue with this movie was killin Blue Eyes
I really wanted him to follow Caesar's footsteps
Maybe Cornelius will do that instead.
@@Ani-lc6fe Maybe, especialy since this name is reference to the OG movie.
The delicate balancing act of using Bad Ape for comic relief was exquisite. It was just enough to be relatable without being silly.
There’s actually a really famous Gorilla in a zoo who started walking on 2 feet, because he saw humans walk on 2 feet.
A lot of apes walk on two feet for short distances, not just gorillas.
@@GAdmThrawn Yes, that’s why I just mentioned a gorilla.
I believe the girl's name "Nova" is a reference to the name of the female slave Taylor (acted by Charlton Heston) freed in the first "Planet of the Apes (1968)".
You guys are gonna cry your eyes out in the end 😿. Not funny. It was a tearjerker. The way Maurice reacted. He was like Caesar’s brother. Before the camera move to the sky, you can see most of the apes standing up, paying their respects. Even Rocker noticed and headed to his body is what got me
Thank you guys for watching these trilogy! I love this trilogy and it really was a tear jerker. I love all of you guy's opinions about this movie. Btw I don't know if there is going to be a 4th one. But I think the fourth one is going to be based on the 60s planet of the apes. Cause in the first one, they showed a scene of astronauts heading to Mars. But im predicting that they'll come back and discover a planet of apes.😂❤
There is going to be a fourth. "Kingdom of the planet of the apes
I always love hearing Stella’s interpretations. Great reaction
The third one reached perfection in the special effects, to the point that the apes look real, incredible! I think it's the first time that a CGI convinces me 100% that I'm watching something real.
You should all definitely watch the originals. All of them. This one especially had a ton of references to the originals, especially the second one.
I saw this in the theater and the ending made me cry.😢
Me too man. 😢 I remember crying for a good 5 minutes. Poor Cornelius.
Me too😢
Steve Zahn fucking killed it. He deserved more recognition from his usual comedy movies and kind of being off the radar for big movies for a while. Most people have no idea it was him
The score in this movie is beautifully well done and perfectly reflects the emotions of the scenes it is so good
So glad u guys enjoyed this trilogy, which is personally one of my all-time favorites. In regards to the upcoming 4th film, I would assume the storyline would somehow become the bridge between this trilogy & the original films, to the similar degree how Rogue One was to the Star Wars saga. Just my opinion. Anyway, GREAT reaction guys! 😎
Such a great conclusion to ceaser storyline. I can't wait for kingdom of the planet of the apes
"If I was a human," lol, James over here forgetting that he's human!😂
😂 LOL!!😅
the music is based on the original scores. they underline each one, and a bit more was added to them. but they are the tunes from my memory, well done in this day and age, to make one reflect on the old ones. it was my favorrte series back in the day. and could not wait for them to come ouyt in theaters. I am along for this ride, and cannot wait for the next one. Love your reactions.
Great reaction guys ❤️
In the fourth movie, cornelius the youngest son will be the main character, and it has sense cause in the old movies i think the ape cornelius was a main character too...🤔
Wait actually???
@@l.aliban5122 yess
@@lourdesandrada4397 ouuuuuu 👀
A Cornelius was a main character. He was the husband of Zira who helped the main human character.
Cornelius was such a good call back
Such a amazing Franchise. I remember watching this one and feeling really sad and indifferent about the ending because I wanted to be sad Caesar was gone but knowing he didn't die for nothing and his family and people are safe made me happy and optimistic. That was also me thinking that was the last movie so now I'm excited but also turned away by there being another one.
I watched this in the cinema, not a dry eye in the house! We were all sniffling 💕
Now watch either the original Planet of the Apes with Charelton Heston...or...The Mark Wahlberg remake. Both explain the future of what happened after this trilogy....Was fun watching these movies with you. Always loved all the movies, and I have had them all on DVD for years. Great reaction!
If you guys do watch the original planet of the apes and beneath the planet of the apes, you should go back and watch war for the planet of the apes again. There's a lot of cool little references to those 2 of the old movies, Alpha Omega is a reference to some wild stuff that happens in beneath the planet of the apes.
Also the 2001 remake isn't bad to watch after the original movies either, completely separate to all the other movies but worth watching. The costumes are spectacular.
I love Cesar's progress of speech through these films. From basic words, basic and slow phrases, to full on sentences
Blue Eyes, Caesars oldest son was named after Caesars mom, Blue Eyes. Maurice is definitely my favorite character, followed by Caesar. He just had my heart through the whole movie. Love Rockets story too. I always thought Maurice would be a good replacement, but we'll have to see. The end when Maurice discovers the arrow in Caesar, he gives him that look like, "Caesar... I told you..." And the way he has always been a children guy, prob bc of his time at the circus. I just know he would be a good father figure for Nova and Cornelius. Oh, and I love how when Nova asked him if she was an ape, and he didn't tell her she was an ape or a human, just who she is, Nova. Lots of great moments in the movie and the others. Hopefully the next one is good too.
Actually Blue Eyes receives his name because he was born with blue eyes, the rest of the apes have green eyes. Caesar’s mom’s name was Bright Eyes, reference for the nickname the apes put on Taylor from the OG movie.
I admire Rocket here. He was brave distracting the Colonel and Red. Even if he faced off against the bigger guy he used to be the playground bully the first till Caesar claimed to be the dominant alpha male over him. Now he knows what its like to be under the power of evil men, he showed strength and true loyalty to Caesar and those he cared about.
A 4th movie is being made by Wes Ball
From MAZE RUNNER
It does snow in cali, they're probably in northern cali somewhere, it definitly snows on the mountains, which would make sense for them being there because of the old ski resort.
Matt Reeves should bring Michael Seresin to work in the sequel of THE BATMAN
They worked together in here and it's gorgeous
Haven't watched this since long before my son was born, and he'll be 2 soon.
Man, the scene of Caesar finding Cornelius early on hits SO different as a daddy....
I love Rockets redemption here, from bully to follower to lieutenant to best friend of Caesar
All of the movies have been great so far. I really hope the producers don’t drop the ball on the 4th one.
People... can we talk about the elephant in the room?
This movie manages to make us get emotional over apes that are mostly CGI, and their performances feel more realistic and better done than many other dramatic movies with real actors.
How cool is that?
In a deleted scene they confirmed that they killed Malcolm
This whole trilogy was awesome. Though it will be sad without Caesar.
So cool, the end scene is so sad but beautiful😭 tears man tearss
One of the best film trilogies ever for sure. There's is another film coming May 24, 2024 called Kingdom of the planet of the Apes. Hopefully it's as good as these ones are.
1:04:48 Fun Fact: Maurice does eventually write a book called *”Caesar's Story”* so you saying that is hilarious and accurate! 💀💀
Great reaction. I’m glad you enjoyed this trilogy. This is my fave trilogy ever. #TeamCeasar The new film is called kingdom of the planet of the apes and is Cornelius (Ceasar’s baby son) story along with Nova the girl. Andy Serkis, zToby Krebbel etc who played the original apes in the trilogy aren’t in it so I’m not sold on a 4th movie yet but I’ll wait for the trailer before I make up my mind completely. It’s been great to watch your reactions to all three films. Take care 😘 🐵🦍🦧❤️
95% of my questions after watching this trilogy were answered when I read "Caesar's Story by Maurice".. Most of the book just retells the movie storyline from other apes perspectives (including Koba)... but Maurice does fill in a bunch of stuff I was wondering about.
BEST MOVIE SERIES OF THE 21ST CENTURY!!!
I love these reactions
Caesar is like Moses, he lead the Israelites through wars and the desert to the Promised Land **BUT** Moses did not enter the Promised Land.
Can I just say I have just found your channel and love watching movies I’ve seen though ur eyes and ur reactions. Am a lot older than u guys but am loving every minute off watching u all . Keep up the good work .
I had my doubts about this movie, but it was really clever, funny, and beautiful!
I can't wait to see what will happen in the next one. I want to know if this Cornelius is the same Cornelius like in the original. It would make sence with what he named his son in original.
Me and my mom and my stepdad all. Went to see this movie when it came out the ending really hits you right in the Feelings.
Cornilious is the future of the planet of the apes.
This is why the originals are so great we some what know what happens
The colonel is obviously based on Colonel Kurtz from Heart of Darkness / Apocalypse Now.
So a fantastic trilogy ends, Caesar dying is a bitter pill, driven to vengeance as the Colonel undoes all his attempts to make peace and try to coexist with humans. In a deleted scene they revealed that Malcolm sadly was killed by the colonel too.
The mutation of the virus is a reference to the original movies though, with humans in the future both mute and considered incapable of thought, which is why Dr. Zaius tried to silence and neuter Charlton Heston's character (also interesting that the Orangutans in the original were more higher class than the other apes, while Maurice remained Caesar's loyal right hand), Nova was also the name of the love interest if I recall.
Still, Serkis pulled off a full trilogy of total immersion in a mocap role, that cannot be stated enough how amazing he did, Caesar is a fully recognized character who is the anchor of the trilogy, and now his story ends
Since you've seen the new Ape films, are you all planning to go through and watch the original Planet of the Apes films? If you do, I think you'll find much of your questions of how things would be between humans and apes answered.
Really gotta watch the old matt Damon planet of the apes. Shows the far future
Mark Wahlberg, not Matt Damon. Lol
It’s so funny how often they are confused with one another.
Ive watched the trilogy around 9 times through and every time without fail i silently cry my eyes out to Caesars death at the end of War.
how did yall not cryyyyyy? I was crying a river
Very well done. A smart outlook on the whole thing.
Saw this in the theater. As I did the other two. There are 3-4 films I’ve watched in the theater in the last 15 years in which I saw a lot of grown men cry. Fast n Furious 7 when we said goodbye to Paul Walker, Tony Starks death in Endgame this film. Just crushing.
Should say and this film.

I hope you guys keep the spirit up and stay healthy 💪🏻🔥👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😘😘😘😘
At least Maurice kept his promise to make sure he comeback
Best trilogy since LOTR.
Glad to see you guys get through all of them. I love this trilogy.
Also the crossbow guy the hispanic, he got his rise to fame from the hulu show, east los high. And us hispanics who were fans were estatic that he was gonna be in this huge movie and franchise. Sadly he didnt have a bigger part or did more in the movie.
the fourth movie will focus on Cornelious after many years right after the war for the planet of the apes it would make sense.
I think they confirmed that Malcom went to the colonel to try and reason with them, and he killed him
1:06:05: I'm sure you've discussed this already in Patreon, but there was that mission to Mars in the 1st film of this trilogy, and the newspaper headline that reads "Lost in space", so they could easily bring it full circle as a tribute/nod to the original films.
The speed with which I clicked on this video ...
Not sure, but since there is going to be another film after this one, likely it will be simply named "Planet of the Apes", like the original 1968 movie. In that film, 'Cornelius' (played by the legendary, Roddy McDowell) is a full grown ape, and he helps the main human characters in that movie. I won't say anymore as not to spoil it too much for any who have never seen the original movie, and are planning to see this newer version of it coming up.
The actor, Roddy McDowell, by the way, plays Peter Vincent 'The Great Vampire Killer', in an amazing 80s cult classic movie series called "Fright Night" (Pts 1 & 2). Something you guys should definitely put on your watch list for your channel. :)
lol, reminds me of that one comment that said, "Whenever I see an apocalyptic movie that takes place in the U.S., I just assume that the rest of the countries are fine, and have actually gotten their stuff together and resumed relatively normal operations." It's always so funny to imagine that like, yeah, we've got a bunch of trigger-happy a-holes over here who would keep stirring up the drama, and we wouldn't be able to organize as easily as some other countries probably would, because we'd be so divided. So they'd be totally fine just shaking their heads at our chaos.
Hehe it is rather funny that most apocolyptic stories like these happen in the US. I often think "dang, these poor Americans. They can't catch a break." , meanwhile in my country I'm sitting in the dark because we have no power AND no water, there were two robberies at my work this week, I hear gunshots nearby almost every night, a friend of mine was hijacked on Friday..... the list goes on. 😂😂😅😅
Anyone in the US want to adopt me? I'll put up with zombies, viruses, ape wars, aliens etc! 😂😊
@@tinahastie lol, I would definitely adopt you if I had my own house. lots of love, Tina!💖

My bad. Same root language tho
Steve Zahn nailed his performance as "Bad Ape".
Amazing Journey.
The main adult Ape protagonist in the original Planet of the Apes is named Cornelius. Draw your own conclusions.
This trilogy where I actually felt HAPPY to see humans suffer

Had to wait 16 hours cause it was midnight by the time I realised you guys uploaded BUT. I saw this in theatres with my mum, we left the theatre crying and demanding a redo on the ending 😂 like the dying isn’t the problem, the problem was that he died the SECOND they settled. Like I feel he at least deserved a day or two to bask in the freedom that he fought for 😭
It was intended to be a Biblical Allegory
Moses took his people to the promise land but didn't enter it because God punished him for breaking Faith
I would say based on how they ended the movie. The final scene really felt like a Biblical reference. So I don't think that they planned on making another movie at that point. I think they just realized how popular the series was and they saw places where they could fill in the gaps between how the last movie is and where the original movie in the series begins
Ceasar is the Moses figure and he led them to the promised land but never entered himself.
Personally, I think they can pull off another trilogy with new characters if they do it right. Caesar's arc is obviously done, but what about Ape civilization, what about the remaining humans in the rest of the world? Would they all fall down as smart sentient beings due to the new variant of the virus? If so, how would Ape society in general treat these humans? These are questions that make a LOT of sense given the fact that the upcoming movie is called "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", so most likely we'll se how ape society develops into a more complex structure, because Caesar and his people were simply tribal, still very early stages of social structure and organization.
actually I think they intended to bring it full circle from the beginning. In Rise Planet of The Apes they had that broadcast of the first human landing on Mars. Thats the astronauts who return to a ape world in the originals. If its going that way they're likely gonna have them come back to see the world be a Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
@@rari2943 that's exactly what it is, this trilogy is basically acting as a prequel to the original movies
@@danielmunoz1275 kingdom of the planet of the apes is basically going to be the original planet of the apes movie. They're tying it together. The apes were ruling the world and basically creates a society like ours just more monkey lol
there are so many references to the original movies in this one. Humans becoming mute, the doll, alpha omega and nova
This trilogy was surprisingly better than I ever thought it would be.
This was my favorite movie of 2017.
