Hats off to the Sieglers for all they do and get done. Lots of things to do every minute of the day. I had a friend who grew up on a 100 cow dairy in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Several years ago he thought maybe he should look at restarting a dairy from scratch. Spent several weeks visiting dairy farms and equipment suppliers. Decided against it. He said he never visited a dairy where they could keep up with the work to be done. He felt like his personality and no family help and running a dairy would not work for him. Not lazy, just wanted things he could control.

You always need to be wary when you working on things. Accidents can happen very quickly. Glad no one was hurt when that roof let loose.

Hey kip you need to be careful working on them wagons. When i was young my cousin tripped and fell into the beaters. And punctured a lung but luckily my Aunt Mary was a nurse from one of the local hospitals. And was able to help him, but he suffered from a collapsed lung that he lived with.

Thanhs for another great video Kip.
It was most interesting and enjoyable.
Wow. That top off the silage wagon about got away from you. Most have been the loose nuts ((ha ha-that was funny)).
Looks like you got the silage wagon fixed the way you want it. Big job there.
That hydraulic pump motor will run very slow for you. A mixer motor would be many times faster. Too fast I think.
See what you think as you use it. Can always change it back.
The sealer looks good on your fence. Probably could use another coat.
Loading those cows for the dry lot was a struggle. They did not want to go. Gave all of you a hard time. Wow.
Thanks for everything Kip. You all take care and be safe. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

With a mixer you control the speed it feeds out with how far you open up the door. Itd work but definitely more expensive than your chopper box setup

  • @handyandy6071
    @handyandy6071 3 месяца назад +3

On a tmr mixer you can raise or lower the door for how fast you want it to discharge feed.

So a mixer would work. Does it have to be newer or are older ones like that too?

All the knights and kuhns I have used were like that. Some had auger doors some have just a slide door. I have always liked the auger doors better. You don't have to get as close to the feed bunk. If I was you I would go to a tmr mixer.

We did see an increase in production on our cows when we switched to a mixer wagon. We currently have a Meyer or vertical auger mixer, so we do not need the hay grinder to come. The vertical is almost more for a higher roughage ration. Being I haven't been around your conveyor system over the bunk, I'd ask around. My parents did have an auger system in the bunk until the early mid 90s. Either way, it's still something for you guys to talk about and with the nutritionist for what's best for your operation.
Our Holsteins left in 2007, but we finally poured a silage pad in 22 even though we were talking about it for 20 years. Yes, we have used the ag/silage bags but the biggest problem for us is rodents from making holes on the bottom and certain dogs from running on the top like how some dogs run on bales. My uncle's research after we pour the pad, his operation is completely separate from ours, what he found was a concrete pad will save you around 15% at the end of the year

My friend has a patz mixer and on the fold down conveyor there is a hydraulic valve that can slow it way down. It’s meant for loading into feed carts but it would work for what your doing too.

We had a rissler stationary mixer growing up, and we dumped into a conveyor. It was always run pretty full, but we never had issues with it. Depending on what you get, I would imagine there could be a way to slow it down.
