Gohan looked lame and flat through all of DBS until that one shot of him charging in Kamehameha in Takahashi's style. Actually looked like the Gohan I remembered from the Buu arc.
It also doesn't help that they made the odd decision of making his bang come out only when powering up. He often looks like a weird short haired Vegeta. While Tarble and Cabba look more like Gohan than Gohan.
DBS have been criticized a lot and rightfully so, i'm sure a lot of you are aware to the reasons why it is. but around the ToP arc people just had it with the show pacing and animation and i can 100% confirm he single-handedly saved the show

I honestly love how Takahashi almost completely removed highlights on the skin, and how he paid attention to how the sides of the nose scrunch up when characters’ eyebrows are down in a position indicative of them being angry. His poses are fluid and dynamic, and the noses tend to appear over the sides of the faces or mouths, and the hair, while accurate to Dragon Ball’s style, is animated fluidly and tends to have great shading. His work in the latter episodes of Super have really made me want to improve as an artist, and just seeing how some of the frames that he makes are better than many stills made by the community’s best artists, is incredible every time I see them. I hope he returns for any Dragon Ball related content in the future.

He's just so perfect. Like you can never complain when he's around. Now if only Shingo Ishikawa would come back. He did many episodes on Z including the last one. I think he did Freeza's tantrum in Fukkatsu no F. I think those were his veins anyway.
Some people do though. Apparently his designs are too stiff. Compared to the softer Shintani look i can understand that because there's a big difference when you compare them side-by-side. But to me, Shintani's designs are a big departure from what i'm used to anyway. In terms of strictly art, Takahashi's art is superior imo.
Takahashi's characters actually feel alive. His work in the recent Broly movie is what Dragon Ball should look like in this particular era. All episodes of super that don't have his style feel like a step backwards from Dragon Ball Z.
if Takahashi sensei supervised the whole of Super anime, it would've been a major hit and wouldn't have received the hate it does. The animation and characters set the tone and just hits differently.
I dont think the entire show should get hate, skipping the first 2 sagas (literally just watch the movies instead) the show has been good and didn't get super good for me until Goku Black introduction (say what you want about the rest of the saga, I liked it, but that introduction was fire) if you want to say something is bad say the animation is, and even then when there is a fight the animation gets 10x better, these people need to stop identifying the entire show based around the animation and art style.
It’s not so much the animators fault as it is the schedule’s. Due to the success of the movies, the anime was out into production very quickly and animators didnt have enough time in earlier arcs.

Whenever you see Takahashi's art style, I immediately am reminded of how great Dragonball Z's animation was during the Frieza arc and beyond. I dunno why he wasn't the art director for Super, he has that vintage style and look that made Z so popular.

The right one looks so off with how the neck connects to the head at the border of the jaw, giving a very 2 dimensional feel rather than the actual shape of the head. He also looks jacked again like he used to be unlike the malnourished 7 year old on the right

I had forgotten how good his work in super was until you showed those clips. The shading, the eyes and emotion, the details, THE HAIR!!! Omg the hair. His work in Super really felt like it was scenes from a Dragonball Z episode but done digitally instead of on cel. Other than that (which there are filters for that you’ve even mentioned replicate the nostalgia of cel animation) it’s some of the best stuff Super has to offer. Really felt like Z again with the hair especially. I was so tired of how hair was done in Super either never moving or moving in such weirdly plastic ways.
I really enjoyed his animation in DBS. I binge watched DBS's T.O.P. and it was feeling like a chore. When his episodes showed up I would be amazed! It was like I found water after being lost in the desert. The action and drawing was A++! Thank you for showcasing the talent that made DBS worth watching.

It’s so great to see new up and coming talent to the DB franchise who can breathe new life into it by taking cues from the original that may have been overlooked with the passing of time. Those sharp lines and fluffy hair and sometimes “off model” shots are some of the most iconic scenes of dragon ball. I miss more of the stylistic integrity the original had

I dont really think so, shintanis designs are extremely versatile and can be used in several different ways, I think If Takahashi became character designer, many animators such as naoki tate and ryo onishi would have to break the character sheets to work

If only Takahashi could have supervised every episode of DBS, it never would have been a question which show looked the best. Hopefully they can have him redo all the episodes for a future Blu-ray release or something.
I remember when I watched that part where they re-tell the fight of Goku vs Frieza. I remember how surprised I was on how good it looked, and then I found out it was because a great animator entered the scene. It truly shows how adding some well defined details truly changes something. Like, I understand the whole issue with bad animation was due to the rushing of each episode and budget, but still, they could have done better.
I could be wrong but I feel like Takahashi might secretly be responsible for the overall improvement in the quality of Art and Animation in Super following his amazing showing in Episode 114. Takahashi helped produce such a different look for an episode, going far away in look and feel than anything that came before it. This clearly worked out well and I don't think that it is a conincidence that every other animators work drastically improved following Episode 114. Hell this may have been the case even for Naotoshi Shida. Look at his (at the time) amazing scene from Episode 57 during the Goku Vs Black fight. It is still great now but compare it with his scene in Episode 130 when MUI Goku rages against Jiren and you can see that even the detail of his work had drastically improved. I think most of the other animators didn't want to be left in the dust.

My only criticism of Takahashi is that sometimes his faces are so angular they make the characters look a bit odd because their faces seem too narrow. It's not anatomically wrong, but it makes it look like the style has suddenly shifted a bit too obviously. If only we had a group of animators as talented as Takahashi, we would literally have perfect animation across the series that can hold up for a long time like DBZ Kai.

I remember when I watched that part where they re-tell the fight of Goku vs Frieza. I remember how surprised I was on how good it looked, and then I found out it was because a great animator entered the scene. It truly shows how adding some well defined details truly changes something. Like, I understand the whole issue with bad animation was due to the rushing of each episode and budget, but still, they could have done better.
I wish he did the entire series for Super.
Takahashi is the heir of the Yamamuro of the heyday; with a bit of Masunaga.

I could be wrong but I feel like Takahashi might secretly be responsible for the overall improvement in the quality of Art and Animation in Super following his amazing showing in Episode 114. Takahashi helped produce such a different look for an episode, going far away in look and feel than anything that came before it. This clearly worked out well and I don't think that it is a conincidence that every other animators work drastically improved following Episode 114. Hell this may have been the case even for Naotoshi Shida. Look at his (at the time) amazing scene from Episode 57 during the Goku Vs Black fight. It is still great now but compare it with his scene in Episode 130 when MUI Goku rages against Jiren and you can see that even the detail of his work had drastically improved. I think most of the other animators didn't want to be left in the dust.

My only criticism of Takahashi is that sometimes his faces are so angular they make the characters look a bit odd because their faces seem too narrow. It's not anatomically wrong, but it makes it look like the style has suddenly shifted a bit too obviously.

Man, they should really just tell all the animators to mimic this guy. The standard Super style is so lacking that it hurts.
Talk about the soundtrack too DBZ sourds was just perfect for a battle scene.
