    The Zfc is a fantastic camera performance and useability-wise. Overhyped at first, and wrongfully underrated ever since. NOT just for newbies, and the flip-screen is very useful for most still-photography - NOT just a “vloggers-gimmick”. Focus-peaking is very useful when using any vintage manual lenses (with adapter). Oh, and it fits perfectly into the leather case (lower section) of the original FM/EM camera. It’s a fantastic piece of kit - for advanced photographers too - often this is neglected (possibly due to kit-snobbery?). Highly reliable and highly recommended!! 😎🤜🏽🤛🏽

      Could not agree more about kit snobbery, I have seen so much negativity around the Zfc , times have moved on get over it you old stuck in the dark ages DSLR owners, I have had a whole range of DSLRs in the past and I got sick and tired of lugging all the weight around, I wanted something equally as good but more of a joy to take out with me even on a short walk and the Zfc ticks all the boxes, I love it and the retro styling is a bonus

    Bought the Zfx specifically as a street photography body, to replace a Sigma fp which i absolutely adore for that role, but which has one big flaw - a very noticable rolling shutter (horrible for night time street photos under street lamps). Was surprised to notice a number of flaws no reviewer or influencer mentioned while using it for only 2 days. Was also surprised to see some good things that were never mentioned.
    Among the flaws, the thing that drives me absolutely mad is the massive turn-on lag, which is the same whether you turn it off completely, or it just goes to sleep. In the two days of use, too many a time i'd bring the camera to my eye, and find myself staring into a black viewfinder for a couple of seconds, while whatever event i wanted to capture was unfolding and then gone. I started getting into the habit of turning it on well in advance, or even tapping the shutter button every so often if i expect something to happen.
    Second one is the frankly dumb way the viewfinder-only mode works with the playback/review button - it does *nothing* until you bring the viewfinder to your eye. You need to blindly fish for the button under your cheek (because of the compactness of the body) while keeping the viewfinder to your eye. That one should be easy for Nikon to fix, at least, if anyone actually reports it (i guess the target market for the camera is not very likely to use the viewfinder only mode).
    The third one is sort of weird, and i was only able to reproduce it twice, and then never again - when assigning AF-ON to the AE/AF-L button, the camera got stuck with AF on twice on me. As in, letting go of the button, pressing it again, changing AF modes - whatever i'd do, it'd continue focusing. As if my finger was on the AF-ON button that whole time. The only thing that would kick it out of it was to turn it off and on again.
    I was also surprised by the noise - seems much noisier than a Z6 or Z7 downsized to same resolution for night time photography. Not sure if actually noisier, or if the character of the noise is just uglier, i think the latter. Despite the price point, i'm finding this surprising because of the sensor size vs. resolution. Also surprised no one seems to have picked up on it.
    In order to not make this comment 100% negative, here's a couple of positive things:
    - Battery life is brilliant! Two days of random street photography walkabouts (total of about 4-5 hours) and i'm still at 3 bars!
    - It looks and balances great with Voigtlaender Nokton and similar lenses! Easy to focus too, thanks to a well implemented magnified view and peaking.
    - It's GREAT to finally have all the Nikon Z and some of Nikon DSLR customization options available in such a tiny package!
    - Working with M + Auto ISO is much easier than i expected. That's how i have most of my cameras set up, and the discrete dials don't really make it any harder to use that way, at least for me.

    • @neklamp2431
      @neklamp2431 2 года назад

      I have also noticed the first flaw and sometimes is a little bit annoying. But it depends on the setting. If you have set it to go to sleep every 20 min, I don't think you will have that problem. A thing that annoys me very much is the position of the play button... and although Hudson gave us a solution by assign it to a different button, well, the camera doesn't have so many buttons! And one thing I find really hard and have changed is the zoom in, while taking a photo to see if it's in focus. Zoom in and out are unreachable. So I use the "back focus" button for zooming in. Auto iso is on the record button as my top menu item and as I said, not enough reachable buttons!

    • @oorcinus
      @oorcinus 2 года назад +2

      @@neklamp2431 Interesting! Goes to show how differently we all configure and use our cameras. I don't have a problem with zoom in/out at all. I've set the record button to grid overlays (that's how i have it set up on bodies that don't have shooting banks, on those that do i set it to shooting bank selection), AE/AF-L to AF-ON, and front Fn button to AF mode selection. I'm realizing now that with a manual focus lens this whole setup makes absolutely no sense. I wish there were at least two settings/shooting banks so i can have one for AF and one for MF lens walkabouts.

    • Is there a way to set a minimum shutter speed when in aperture priority mode?

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  Год назад +2

      Yes, it should be active (d7) in shutter priority. If you underexpose, the screen should go dark. Absolutely. The key to having a minimum shutter speed in aperture priority is running Auto ISO with boundaries set. Before the camera lets you get into trouble with shutter speed it starts ramping ISO. Your shutter speed will only drop below hand holdable when the ISO hits the max you have set in the Auto ISO settings. If you want control of both Aperture and ISO, it's always a click to M away. M plus auto ISO is more and more becoming my default. You just have to remember to keep watching that your ISO is in bounds.

      @@transuong7623 I'm not sure, but lightroom classic certainly does and we all should be shooting RAW anyway to take advantage of future processing enhancements. Like fuji, nikon embeds the chosen jpeg processing settings into the raw data so that a sophisticated editor like Lightroom Classic can read and display the raw file like the jpeg in camera. You just need to select camera profile in the preset preferences. The difference is that you still have the original raw data to reinterpret or edit any way you want decades from now. Film gain is a click and slider drag in post. :)

      One item I will be curious to hear your opinion about is how distracting the flashing lines will be when you release the shutter if you are in total silent mode. I think a much better option to "show" you actuated the shutter is to make the focus indicator turn from green to blue since the focus indicator is always in your direct field of view. If you are burst shooting it could just stay blue. if you are attempting to fire the shutter and you loose focus it could either flash blue or go back to red if you are in the mode which allows you to take a photo regardless if you are in focus or not. what is are thoughts on that...?
