If you're wondering why we used coarse grind for the Aeropress, you can find an answer to your question here ---> ruclips.net/video/JEs8nkb0eQs/видео.html
If you like stronger coffee, you should use fine grind, and even espresso grind... you should not wait to press, or hold for 1 minute, as that causes the acidic flavor to come out... just press slower... also I will point out that you filled the Aeropress upside down... this is based on my experience. Also get a metal mesh filter, so you get the oils from the coffee, and you will have an exceptional coffee...
@@AdamDavid "...you filled the Aeropress upside down..." That's the way to do it when you're making "full immersion" coffee (French Press style) as opposed to making espresso.

It's amazing to think how a company, Aerobie, can make frisbees and a dog toy called Dogobie, as well as an iconic coffee brewer such as the Aeropress. Thank you, Alan Adler.
I own both, a Chemex and an Aeropress, and use both almost daily. I use my Chemex in the morning when I'm making two cups, and the Aeropress either at work or at home if I only want one cup. I like both for different reasons, I like how clean and smooth the Chemex is, but I like the ease of brewing and the more full-bodied rounder taste of the Aeropress. I tell everyone I can about both, hyping both up equally
I think you can get similar results with each, the recipes used were vastly different...and understandable, but for me a chemex can get a more clean taste with a 1:15 or 1:16 ratio, 201F(94C) and brewing about half as much Medium grind(for me 5.6 out of 10 from my grinder)
Oh, I have a question these days about if I should buy a Bialetti Moka pot or Aeropress. I like strong, dark coffee, like espresso, would you mind give me an advice which one I should buy?
The temperature of the drink has an effect on taste. ( the temp for an Aeropress brew is much lower than Chemex) How did you account for that? It would have been funny to give them the same coffee in both cups and see how many tasted a "difference"
Unfortunately, in this video we didn't account for that, but you're totally right! In an upcoming video, we had our testers come to us, and reduced the time between brew and taste. Maybe in the future we can have a rematch!
I Love my AeroPress! I use the metal fine screen filter instead of the paper. I usually grind my coffee between course and medium. I jave tried a few others but always go back to tje AeroPress.
Hey guys try it with the same coloured mug. Apparently in an experiment done some time ago with a white, glass and blue mug all with the same coffee the white mug tasted bitter compared to the glass and blue mug. Color of the mug can affect taste perception.
That's a good call out Wesley. We used Filip Kucharczyk's recipe from his 2016 world championship and it leant itself really nicely to the coffee. We definitely mix it up with different coffees though. What's your go to recipe?
Chemex coffee looks that way because of much thicker filter so coffee it produces has more clarity. This test just shows preferenece over a certain coffee, not brewing method in ma opinion.
If two people always agree, there isn't a use for one of the people! I think there could be a round two, with a tweaked ratio for the chemex For 8 oz, try approx 14 g grinds with approx 280 g water, same bloom time, use a goose neck to be able to pour just little bits and you won't get that watered down effect Double for a bigger brew, but only if your cup can fit it
@@JuggleAddict In that recipe, at least, you end up diluting with another ~100g water at the end. Definitely a high ratio regardless, but that seems to be somewhat fashionable with Aeropress nowadays: large ratios, coarse grinds.
Finding your personal type of coffee brew is quite a journey one should take. Personally love the Aeropress, I favor fruitier notes and the Aeropress brings that out so much. Depends really on the persons taste and mood.
Great experiment! These are my two options, so this is a very helpful video. I guess each can still be tweaked with different grind sizes and both would probably be good!
In the future you should try to equalise the ratio and temperature (and serving vessel, maybe pour both from identical Hario servers). Otherwise you may be comparing the recipes more than the brewers themselves. Also, you don't show in the video how much water you add to the Aeropress coffee after the brewing
My issue with the Chemex is the glass. Not only is it more fragile, it's not insulated so it cools much more quickly. You'd have to make coffee one cup at a time and pour it straight into a cup to keep it hot. The Aeropress goes straight into your cup by design, which you can Insulate if you desire.
Aeropress didn't win statistically. Still can determine if it's not 50/50. So, with that few people tasting, you would need 10 tasters out of 12 to prefer Aeropress over Chemex to get a standard p < 0.05 level. Or, to put it a different way, if 5 folks preferred Chemex, then you would need 15 other folks to prefer Aeropress reach the p < 0.05 level (so that would be a total of 20 tasters). If there is a preference, it is probably small, and you would need to have a lot of tasters to find it. So, we didn't really learn anyway from this video....
it seems bizzarre that people found the aeropress LESS acidic. the chemex is famous for absolutely demolishing the acidity of coffee and people that dislike acidity absolutely love the chemex. weird to watch this. makes me wonder how much value there is in OTHER peoples experiencing something vs your own experience.
Good point Mihir. I think alot of people are just used to your standard burnt dark roast pike place beans so when the chemex comes along and tastes nothing like it then they don't think it's 'proper' coffee. I can't wait to get my hands on a chemex......soon.
