"I don't do Aeropress that often. Mostly just because I don't." Had me in stitches 😂
Still not over the colours in Sterling's videos - like how can a kitchen be so aesthetically pleasing 😭😭😭
Peach James ❤️❤️ thank you, peach! It’s all about the color grade! (You can see it in the last few frames without the color grade if you look closely!
@@sterlinggrinnell even without the color grade, your kitchen is very aesthetic it's amazing!
Takes a lot of preparation before shooting for it to look like that.
Aeropress boi here - try using no bloom since its full immersion. Pour 1/16 with 95 C water and press @ 1 min. Total wet time is about 90 seconds. Grind is slightly finer than v60. Pressing through the hiss vs stopping at the hiss would be an interesting vid. Ive found pressing through the hiss adds bitterness that hides the more complex flavors, but it could be good for certain beans or roasts.
Great video and amazing colors! Thanks
Hey, I like your videos so much! Especially about coffee and minimalism. 😊⚡
Tongue has no particular point where it tastes certain things. I have Aeropress, will try V60 in the future because of you. Thanks !
The method you used on the aeropress is probably the method that brews the lightest cup. For a Nordic style roast I use inverted method with near boiling water, stir and press after 3-4 mins depending on coffee/desired flavor.
Great video - What grind setting are you using on your Barratza for v60?
Samuel Elkins hey, man! I keep it right around 18 for V60! Probably closer to 15 for aeropress!! :)
I think that’s the issue. Grind size for pour over is medium and for Aeropress should be fine grind closer to espresso so the Aeropress wasn’t fully extracted
I have the sweet bloom coffee at my home and have been wondering how to make a great coffee out of it and voila, I bump into this video!
the only thing better than a cup of coffee is a upload from sterling grinnell 💕
elizabeth esc you’re the sweetest, liz❤️
You might try a finer grind and tighter ratio for the Aeropress. Infusion brews do better with stronger ratios because of how they brew.
Hey Sterling, big fan of your querky fun videos. Super informative and really digging your soundtrack. Got a lot out of this video. Hoping you could do a side by side comparison with the v60 vs Chemex. I 2qnt to get on of the two and am getting varied reports from varied pro's/enthusiasts. Love the look of the chemex but am getting the vibe that the chemex filter papers are the big issue. Please give me your thoughts. Cheers mate.
V60 is my favorite, Great video Sterling, great humour :)
Benjamin Arbez your my favorite, Ben.
I like a finer grind for aeropress compared to a slightly more coarse grind on my pour over. Something worth exploring. Maybe do a video of same brew method but different size grind?
where can I get some of those fridge magnet spice holders? They look a lot more interesting then the coffee makers.
I prefer the upside down method with Aeropress. Also stir for 10 seconds and steep for 3 minutes.
Aeropress is an immersion method. According to James, 1/14 would be a better ratio to make up for the extra water you get compared to percolation.
I want to try this on my channel now.
Actually, the whirlpool gives as much or even more of an even extraction. It's like using a syphon where you would want that little round hill in the centre. What I notice is that the whirlpool let's the fines stick to the walls more and let the regular size grinds to continue brewing till the end, creating a much more sweeter coffee.
Hi, try the inventor of the aero press’s method. I believe its kind of like a americano method. First grind very fine (espresso grind) 19grams. I’m grinding the finest on a Baratza vario-w. Boil water on kettle to 175 degrees Fahrenheit (unorthodox but it works). Fill water between the 1 and 2 marker on the aero press (1.5). Stir with aero press stirrer because spoons or other utensils can cut the paper (the aero press stirrer is measured perfectly to not hit the paper). Stir for 10 seconds. Plunge not too fast (faster you plunge it clogs the puck, longer extraction time, more bitter according to the inventor). You will have about 1/3 of a cup of liquid (kinda like an espresso) and I pour 1:2 ration of coffee and hot water (175 degree). Done! I don’t do it any other way now. Produces a smooth cup of coffee and as it cools the coffee flavors are more pronounced!
Blooming is not included in this method. I heard the blooming is done in pour overs because after the degassing process, the coffee extracts evenly because it allows equal contact. But in this method you are stirring the find grinds for 10 seconds.
The low temp, find grind, 10 sec swirl, “short pull” and mixing hot water at the end sounds out of the ordinary but has produced a cup I enjoy. Please try it and tell me what you think!
Also, the proper pressing technique for the Aero Press is to just drape your forearms across the top of the plunger and let their weight gently push it down, without forcing it. Should you meet resistance, resist the temptation to force down, resistance will dissipate on its own and the plunger will continue on downwards until it reaches bottom. For reference: ruclips.net/video/gkwcTNTkmBc/видео.html
Eugene Kong Should be a coarse grind
@@williamgreen8375 if you check out Alan Adler's (inventor of the aero press) tutorial he uses espresso grind ruclips.net/video/SCOSZwWIWJM/видео.html
I've been using expresso grind for a while now and have been making good coffee
In my testing I find a coarser grind is better to my palette.
fresh cut sterling 👍🔥
Joseph Choi thanks, joe😉
Haha thank you for this
Try going with a finer grind with the Aeropress. You're experiencing a shorter contact time with the Aeropress, so you want a finer grind; i.e., a French Press is pretty coarse with a 4-5 min brew time, and espresso is really fine with a 25-30 second brew time.
You'll want different grind sizes for different brewers. You'll also want different grind sizes for different volumes, i.e., an 8oz v60 (slightly finer) vs. a 20oz v60 (slightly coarser). Think of it as macro and micro-adjustments. Macro adjustments for brewers and micro-adjustments for volume.
French Press: coarse
Kalita: coarse-medium
Chemex: coarse-medium
v60: medium
Aeropress: medium-fine
Espresso: fine
I was watching the video & then i realized i could actually SMELL the coffee wow. But then i realized i have a coffee mug in here from like 10 hours ago & i was smelling that 😂
Isn't slurping meant aerate the liquid to engage the olfactory?
I love your energy u had me laughing the whole time
I feel like you gotta wait till everybody is out of the house to make a video. Lol if yes I’m in the same boat ha
Haha "nice" great video bro👌👌
I'd be interested to see a aeropress vs French press
I noticed that Huck in the background. Coincidentally have a bag otw. Is it good?
I noticed you took coffee temp as you were tasting it but now when brewing. Usually it is recommended that the water be 95 to 105 degrees when brewing coffee. There was a time lapse from maximum temp, whatever it was in the first pour to the second brewing. This dropped the temp lower for the Aeropress brewing so it may not have extracted as well as it did when you brewed in the Pour-over.
105 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit? Because unless you're boiling water under pressure, it's not gonna go over 100 Celsius. That's the boiling point. And 105 Fahrenheit sounds a bit chilly to brew coffee with.
I really enjoyed your video! Thanks man! Do you recommend using the aeropress inverted? Greetings from Germany!
I do! I dont do it often myself, but its a great way to brew :)
Amazing video man, iI was wondering about buy an Aeropress, but since the price here is too high I'll stay with the v60.
Altamiro Lopes V60 is a solid way to go!
Both are equally good and it's a matter of personal preference.
Could you provide a link to the glass you drank out of for the v60?
The ultimate test
I feel like a more fair experiment would to brew them at the same ratio, and measure the tds (total dissolve solid). You're the bomb though. Also if any of you are interested, the tds on v60 is higher.
Try using medium fine with temperature around 90 with 3 pours (bloom twice amount the coffee, then the rest of water devide into 2 pours) then swirl like crazy at the end. With v60 I usually get the sweetness and the sweet fruit taste from this recipe. Hope this help
actually that's what I did! this is almost basically the recipe! and youre refering to 90 degrees Celsius?
Try giving both methods the same extraction time.
love
Probably mentioned, but try the inverted method for the aeropress for a longer brew time, also allowing for a coarser grind.
this.. no infusion time at all and he is wondering why he cant taste the coffee on the aeropress... oh kids these days
@@josealqueres oh wait a minute, i didnt realize he didnt steep long enough, i thought he were doing it between the cut on the video, but i just realize he only steep for 1 minute and 15 second lmao
I just wondered can you achieve as good of cup of coffe in say a moccamaster KB 741 as a pour over say v60 or chemex?
What is the brand on those cups ?
Thanks for this gorgeous video. Really helped me, to finally make a decision on which method I want to try myself. P.S Quality of your work is amazing
Софья Анисимова thank you so much’ means a lot ❤️
Nice video, nice channel! Though you should have ground the Aeropress in a different grind than V60.
I've been in love with Aeropress for two years now, but I just bought a new V60 and I'm obsessed with it! I'm really liking it a lot, I didn't think it would be so good. I was quite surprised that your Aeropress was lighter that the V60, generally it's the other way around.
Also, tip from Adler (Aeropress' creator): use the rear of your forearm to press it (almost in your elbow), you won't need to put so much force on it to extract ;)
After 3 years, which one you like it better aeropress of v60? pro and cons. thx....I've been using v60 around 7-8 years now thinking to buy aeropress
@@monyet82 i love them both! I tend to switch between them during the week. It's very cool when you get a new coffee to experiment it with both methods, you can get very different results, plus the aeropress is really versatile and you can make fast cold brew coffee, which I love in the summer. I'd super recommend it!
@@arthurbaz2 thx, really appreciate it.
hmmmmm BOOOM!
Nice intro hahaaha
If I had 3 wishes right now one would be to have this man's kitchen
I guess for the aeropress the ground is too coarse. For me it has to be finer than V60 (30sec Bloom, stir, put the other part on, stir at 0.55, press at 1.05, finish at 1.25. Grind size slightly finer than the V60.
thats actually a good point I totally forgot about, usually aero press is finer than v60 for sure, good call
James Hoffmann has some incredible stuff! You and him are where I learn most of my coffee knowledge from
Better to grind finer for the Aeropress than the V60. You will lose some body for Aeropress when ground the same for a comparison. I use a wilfa uniform grinder and go for 19-22 for V60 and 13-15 for Aeropress. Better results
V60 for LYFE
You should try this experiment with same controls and coffee but use the inverted method and see if that creates some different flavor profiles!
What scales are you using?
Which scales you got there bro?
I think you would have had a better extraction on the aeropress with a finer grind :) Entertaining video again!
You have the best and expensive equipment. The Acaia scale, the Stagg kettle. Dreams
Brands. Brands. Brands of simple equipment...
Best is subjective imo
@@Ruby-sy7tr i agree. some prefer the Stagg others Brewista and so on. However, he has some really fine tools though
@@scent007 to that, I agree. Lol. Brewista is too expensive for me. Planning to buy a new scale and I found this Timemore scale, cheap but looks good.
@@Ruby-sy7tr I have timemore and I'm telling you it's so so good. you will love it.
I am 50 50 on Aeropress & Chemex.
Have you ever drink a normal espresso?
You didn't stir the aeropress...
Plus the time was short to
Also inverted method better imo
@@dylan-nguyen I dunno if I really notice a difference doing inverted tbh. Biggest difference I notice is temp control and adding the grounds in stages. Not sure what this guy thinks he's doing but I don't think he knows how to properly brew with an aeropress tbh
@@TheMaddmudd I think biggest benefit of inverted is ease of repeatability since the liquid can’t drip thru
Helps if u have a cheap grinder, pre-ground, or don’t want to mess around too much with grind settings in general
I like that u can basically just guestimate every step and end up with pretty good coffee. Especially when u just woke up at 6am
Re: 11:10 As much as we want to believe it, tongue/taste mapping is a myth, though parts of the tongue pick up flavour quicker than others
What is grind v 60 an press??
It's funny because these are the only two coffee makers I own 😂
I have been brewing with aeropress for almost about 2 years. Today, I got my v60 for the first time and tried it. Wow! V60 is produced an amazing coffee! Aeropress is not bad but there is really a difference in flavors. V60 is much more intense in flavors.
It certainly depends on the method you use for each brewer. Immersion brewing is mellower, sweeter, complex, bold.
Percolation is a bit clearer, weaker (thin in comparison) and bit acidic which gives the impression of a clearer flavors palette
No better or worse. Comes Down to preference and in general I do prefer the aeropress. Way more consistent and forgiving. With the V60, even masters agree that the cup is not always the same. So not the way to go if you want consistency
Sitting here chillin with my mr. coffee haha.
Torrance Baird I mean, whatever you’re into😜😜
@@sterlinggrinnell haha its a sad world sometimes. Cheers.
Coffees coffee right?? At least we got that far!!
@@sterlinggrinnell truth.
What is the glass mug you put the v60 brew in? It is beautiful!
Kalita wave
What do you drink on a daily?
1. Stir the coffee and water in the aeropress before you press
2. Only will it with water up to the 2 mark if you’re making 1 cup. Then diluted the concentrate you get.
3. A finer grind would probably give you a better extraction of those butterscotch notes.
Both ways are great... AeroPress less fiddly and hard to f-ck up. A well handled V60 brew gives a more refined clear tasting coffee - probably because there is more filter working in V60... maybe...
Grind size ?
What about to use the right recipe for Aeropress?
Bad.
You didn't stir the eropress and use the inverted method
Fun video but FYI, the tongue map isn't quite true. It's a common misconception that should've really gone away by now:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue_map
Bruh.. you forgot to let the coffee in (at least) 2 min infusion on the aeropress.. thats why you don't have taste on the aeropress compared to the V60.
Ugh of course, how could I forget 🤦🏽♂️
Yeah probably needed more coffee grounds in the aeropress and needed to stir it
Do you think the V60 tastes better because it is glass vs plastic that the coffee is brewing in? I like to avoid brewing in plastic which is why I haven’t purchased an aero press yet. If someone can somehow design a chemistry grade glass aero press, I would totally do that!
Anyone else have thoughts between glass v plastic?
Plastic is supposed to have a better heat retention that leads to better clarity. I tend to avoid plastic as much because I like the durability of plastic more and also better health but plastic, in general, shouldve brewed better coffee. Even assuming there is micro plastic going into your coffee, it should be so little that it doesn't affect the flavor of the coffee.
WHY ARE YOUR SPICES ON THE FRIDGE STERLING
Wacking Cactus um, cuz it’s doppeeee. Don’t deny it😜
14 minute vid 🙏🏼
Jackson Ray right?! Let the RUclips algorithm gods bless me😂
The link on the coffee is dead.. Do you have another one? :(
Dreamingrightnow we, dang! I would just check anything from sweetbloom.com . You really can’t go wrong with anything they roast!
@@sterlinggrinnell Cool. Found it. :)
I think you pressed too soon on thee aeropress. It needs a bit more emersion time. You pressed it right away. You can see just from the colour of the coffee at the end that it looks a little under-extracteed
I believe you used more grounds with the v60, didn't you? Maybe the taste is different because more grounds were used in the v60
thought i had my youtube speed setting on 1.5x....apparently not
This should be titled I don't know how to use an aeropress 😂
Damn it why didn’t I think of that😭
Where was cat? 🤔
V60❤️
did not stir or steep aeropress. fail
You overextracted the Aeropress because you used too much water imo. Make an extraction and dilute by taste
PCVXD And try finer grind with 175 temp
Yup try the Hoffman method
V60 gang!!!!
1:20 That was one sexy slide
Not how Hoffmann does it.
I feel like the aeropress did poorer because you left the grounds in the open
And the winner is: Syphon
those charts are wrong.
FYI, those tastebud charts were bullshit and have been proven wrong now.
and Im gonna.......
the main reason is that you used the same grinding for both methods, and according to factor the same water temperatures.
Press time just 30 second 😥
You did not use the aeropress properly. Suggest you go to their website and learn how to use it correctly.
It’s probably because you brewed 30g vs 17g. When I brew aero press. I at least use 30-35g for one serving.
Woah the Hoffman method uses 11grams
not a blind test. not convinced
Quality mismatch on your production. Nice visuals but you seriously need a lavalier mic
Waaay too much water for the Aeropress. Seemed like he was treating the Aeropress as if it was a V60.
