Wow so Charlie is the only one that's left sad. I have always loved him he was on TV not all that long ago I think and he is a Christian so he's a brother in Christ and one day I'll see him thank You Lord.
🛼 I remember everyone scrambling to the floor on Friday night at the rink when their song “You Dropped a Bomb on Me” started to play. Skating in the 70’s and 80’s with great music was my life.
I saw Gap Band, Dazz Band and Sugar Hill Gang when I was in high school. There were no seats because we danced the whole time! The concert lasted 3 hours and I was grounded for 2 weeks because I missed my curfew. Totally worth it! 😉🔥😎🤘
RIP to Ronnie Wilson. Charlie’s brother who is also in the band. He died recently. Charlie still performs. Everyone I know that has been to his concert says he is excellent!
You can not go wrong with the Gap Band. They have so many awesome songs. Drop the Bomb, Party Train, Burn Rubber on Me just a few. Go check out some more!!!
Most Funk bands had a lot of people. Partly because you needed a lot to create all the different sounds that comes with Funk but also I think that the early successful funk artists like James Brown had a bunch of people on stage and put on a big show so as other bands emulated that, it just became part of the genre The Gap Bands biggest hit was "you dropped a bomb on me" that is worth a listen. Some other Funk bands to try would be Zapp and Roger with "Doo Wa Diddy" or "More bounce to the ounce" or The Ohio Players with "Fire" or The Bar Kays with "Freakshow on the dance floor"
Love it! My fave by them is You Dropped The Bomb On Me! Other songs I loved back then with the same vibe are Word Up-Cameo,Let It Whip-Dazz Band and Freak A Zoid-Midnight Starr..Keep On Rockin'

They weren't exactly a cover band, but their Gap Band songs were favorites by their fans and got the most requests. I used to see them during rehearsal sometimes, and it was my way of getting a free concert when I was too young to see them at the club or a concert hall. Family perks. LOL! Another cousin also had a band that performed fairly often, and there was some rivalry going on. The band that played Gap Band songs were very good and got a lot more out of town jobs and publicity, while the other one didn't have that great of a band, or that great of a singing voice, but always bragged about how much better his band was. Finally, one year during a local summer festival that lasted three days, both bands were invited to perform, and there were also some big names in the business there performing. It turned out that people loved the ones who didn't brag, and they had a much larger audience. LOL! So many hits, so many hip hop samples.I used to listen to this song every morning in my bachelor days. Do I even need to mention: Yearning for your Love, Outstanding, You Dropped a Bomb, etc. My God! And we all know Charlie Wilson is still out here getting airplay!
My Granny loved these cats...this is some old school funk. She always had their music on when we went over to her crib. If this doesn't get you up and dancing, nothing will. The Gap Band had another dope jam, "Party Train".
They called themselves the Gap Band, according to them in interviews at the time, was that they saw their music as filling a gap between Parliament/Funkadelic and Earth Wind & Fire. The band's core were the 3 Wilson brothers. A very nice dance band. The bass player, Robert Wilson, was one of the best of the time.
Knew y'all would love The Gap. Their artistry is unmatched IMO. There hasn't been a time when I've seen them NOT put on a show. It's something about how they move that ramps the enjoyment and excitement up. I also have the biggest crush on Charlie Wilson (lead vocalist, middleman) even though he's old enough to be my grandfather lol. Please react to "Outstanding" and "You Dropped a Bomb on Me."
Can’t help but bounce, dance and smile when The GAP Band’s ripping it. Such a great band. Great hits like this, “You Dropped A Bomb On Me,” “Let It Whip,” “Burn Rubber” are real bangers. An all-time favorite!🔥🤙
You can NEVER, EVER go wrong with The Gap Band. One of my absolute favorite songs of the ‘80s by a highly underrated band, in my opinion. Check out “I Don’t Believe You Wanna Get Up And Dance (Oops Upside Your Head)” for a uniquely fun Gap Band experience. That song is still in my head 40+ years later. 😂❤
Welcome to the gap band. They have a lot of hits. My favorite is Yearning for your love. Plls react that next. Thx. Uncle Charlie had a serious drug problem for a long time, BUT he got clean & when Snoop saw him on the streets & said awwww hell naw! You comin w/me & that's when Unc gave another chance. He's even more popular now than when he was w/the gap band. You should check out Uncle charlie, snoop, pharrell & justin Timberlake performing on the BET awards (?). It was amazing. Check out Outstanding performing on jools holland too. He got to be in his 70's & still killin it. I love unc & am so happy he came back.
The Gap Band were never a part of Motown Records, and neither were Earth Wind and Fire. Not every "old school" artist, band, or group was "Motown". Motown was and is a record company, not a type or genre of music
The Gap Band is everything. So many classic songs. I loved how bands back in the day really worked! Sang, danced and played instruments all at the same time, all with these huge smiles on their faces.
Well that was pure fun! It’s great to see you guys developing your musical vocabulary and associating bands as you get to know more and more. Roll on - there’s almost no limit to how much music there is out there to learn and enjoy. And while we all have our favorites which you’ll touch on now and then, we also get to ride along and broaden our knowledge too. I know the Gap Band, but not this track, for example. What a cool ride. Thanks!!!
This is my era. There was so much great stuff back then. Try another classic, 'Low Rider by War. Unilever thought it was so cool they resurrected it for their Marmite commercial. Or, you can just remember Cheech and Chong... ruclips.net/video/BsrqKE1iqqo/видео.html
Y'all in Oklahoma, why you crackin on the cowboy outfits?! 😂 And shame on you for taking so long to check out your fellow Oklahomans. 😉 They wear their influences on their sleeves (Funkadelic, Stevie Wonder, etc.) and they've collaborated with lots of others. Dave Grohl has said the drum fills from this influenced the opening drum fill on "Smells Like Teen Spirit." (!!) Lead singer Charlie is the last of the three Wilson brothers still around. Check out their early story song "Not Guilty" for some horn and guitar overload.
The GAP BAND was funk, and soul. They were on the charts in the late 70's early 80's. The band was so big ncuz every sound was a musical instrument. Listen to their beats and hooks. Pre wrap

The Gap Band originated in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The three brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson were the core of the group. This song is originally from 1982. A few years later Robert Palmer did a remake of it in 1988 that was pretty good. It was on the same album "Simply Irresistible" was on. For another Gap Band song you gotta do "You Dropped A Bomb on Me". The single radio version is the shortest (4:05)... there is an extended single version that is longer (5:13)... then there is the extended 12" version that is 13:04 long. I was playing that version of the song at work and my co-worker heard the air raid siren at the beginning and asked "What the hell is that?" I told him the Gap band... about 7 min later he walked my by cubical and it was still going and he asked "How long *IS* this dang song???" For the extended 12" version they bring back the siren and add in machine guns and sound of divebombing planes about that 7 min mark.
I'm so glad i was raised up on old school music!!! I love music from back then and practically know every song from every artist!!! My grandma and them was jammin back in the day!!! 🤣🤣🔥🔥🔥🔥
They're from Tulsa Oklahoma!! They're 3 brothers known as the Wilson brothers. Unfortunately 2 out of 3 of them have passed away. Ronnie Wilson died last November 3rd at the age 73. There's only the lead singer left we call him "Uncle Charlie" he's has a incredible story. He went from top of the world, to losing it all due to drug addiction to his full recovery and struggling back to the top. His voice and the bands work have made the "Gap Band'' bonafide ICONS!! I loved their songs "Burn Rubber" & "Outstanding". I hope you check them out.
"The Gap Band - You Dropped a Bomb on Me (Official Music Video)" and another great band, if interested. "Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me (From Budokan!)" the great thing about this band, is the band was formed in 1973 and the four founding members are still together to this day. And They are still performing in 2022 Band Members are Rick Neilson (lead guitarist), Robin Zander (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Tom Petersson (Bass Guitarist) and Bun E. Carlos (Drums) American Rock Band from Rockford Illinois. Definitely worth a listen.
One of those bands your gonna want to binge listen to. Just grab their greatest hits and put on your dancing shoes. I thought everybody in the world knew who these guys were. Phenominal band
Like others here are saying, their biggest hits and floor-fillers in the early eighties were "Burn Rubber On Me" (1980), "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" (1982), and "Party Train" (1983), but their first big hit was "Oops Upside Your Head" from 1979, all great funk songs in that late seventies funk style.

You must go down this rabbit hole. They'll have you dancing. One of my favorites is "Outstanding" and "You drop a bomb on me".
ALWAYS LOVE LOVE LOVE this song and it ALWAYS puts a smile on my face and brings me back to the 80s!
-San Francisco fan girl
My Granny loved these cats...this is some old school funk. She always had their music on when we went over to her crib. If this doesn't get you up and dancing, nothing will. The Gap Band had another dope jam, "Party Train".
CHARLIE WILSON IS STILL A STARE WITH HIS OWN HIT ALBUMS TODAY. CONCERT STILL ARE 100%
Love The Gap Band! So excited that you’re finally listening to them!
The Gap Band has so many hits, 2 of many Humpin'. Outstanding.
I concur with another Poster: You Dropped The Bomb On Me, would be an excellent folllow-up.
Based out of Tulsa (my home town); "GAP" is an acronym for the streets Greenwood, Archer, and Pine.
This is one we used to dance to back in the day. Check it out. Trammps song Disco Inferno (Long Version)
Legendary “Gap Band” with CHARLIE WILSON singing LEAD with his two brothers ❤️❤️❤️
I spent an insane amount of time skating my teenage butt off to the Gap Band!!
Charlie Wilson is the G.O.A.T
"Outstanding" and "Yearning For Your Love" are my go to's for Gap Band Classics. #Legendary
The Gap Band is Lit!
Everybody already mentioned their biggest hit. But another Gap Banger to checkout is: Burn Rubber!
LOVE this song! One of the best Motown songs ever made, you want to know another one??? Serpentine Fire by Earth, Wind, and Fire.
The Gap Band were never a part of Motown Records, and neither were Earth Wind and Fire. Not every "old school" artist, band, or group was "Motown". Motown was and is a record company, not a type or genre of music
“Yearning For Your Love” is my favorite Gap Band song. It’s definitely in my top 10 love songs.
"Outstanding" is a great song to check out. The lead singer Charlie Wilson aka Uncle Charlie is an outstanding singer.
Thanks!!!
The Gap band ! What great music we had in the 70's 80's funk ,rock, r&b we even had disco.
The 3 guys with The cowboy hats are the Wilson Brothers. They are the Gap Band.
Gap Band and EWF always put a smile on everybody's face..love them.
For female Fridays you should do Sisters Sledge "We Are Family". Huge dance song and great vocals.
This is real music, real production, real musicians …LIVE never MEMOREX✨
Burn Rubber and You Dropped the Bomb are great as well.
I saw the Gap band and Midnight Star live in 1984. They put on a great show.
"Burn Rubber On Me" and "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" is a must from The Gap Band
You should listen to Metallica. “Sad but true”, “Enter sandman”, and “one” are very popular great songs by them
The GAP BAND was funk, and soul. They were on the charts in the late 70's early 80's. The band was so big ncuz every sound was a musical instrument. Listen to their beats and hooks. Pre wrap

I was born in 1970 and The Gap Band was our jam!!!! I play this to wake my teenagers up in the morning!
OMG.... taking me back to HS & jamming to this in the cafeteria & roller skating rink. It was a big hit.
They recorded this song in 1982 ~ Robert Palmer recorded it in 1985 ~ can't decide which version I love more!
I bought this song when it came out around 1981 on a 45’ record. I was 20 at the time. I went to clubs in Washington DC. What a great dance song!!!!
I always liked "You Dropped A Bomb On Me". It's another banger.
"You Dropped A Bomb On Me", "Party Train", "Burn Rubber On Me", "Outstanding", "Oops Upside Your Head". All of them are fun, funky GAP BAND bangers!
The Gap Band were amazing I danced to them countless times one of my fav groups back in the day. Good vibes 😎
OMGI love the Gap band. Early in the morning was THE dance song. A beautiful slow song by them is Yearning for your love.
I second the emotion for "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" & Zapp and Roger - "More Bounce to the Ounce" & Lakeside - "Fantastic Voyage"
One of those bands your gonna want to binge listen to. Just grab their greatest hits and put on your dancing shoes. I thought everybody in the world knew who these guys were. Phenominal band
Like others here are saying, their biggest hits and floor-fillers in the early eighties were "Burn Rubber On Me" (1980), "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" (1982), and "Party Train" (1983), but their first big hit was "Oops Upside Your Head" from 1979, all great funk songs in that late seventies funk style.
got to do "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" too! the minute GAP band dropped in the club I was on the dance floor!!! the minute this started I had to get up out of my chair and reminisce with my feet. Cymbals
THIS! The choreography, the composition, the performance, just WOW!
I miss seeing show man ship like this , I’m over here boogieing in my chair too!
