I have no interest in drywall, taping or most of what is shown here. I like to watch this man do this work because he is completely relatable and very talented.
Thank you so much for your time to make these videos. They have given us confidence to at least try the work ourselves before hiring someone to do the work. We have had several bad experiences in the past with substandard drywall work. The "California Patch" video was particularly helpful. This one too.
Your channel has helped me a ton with repairs around the house. Just did my first corner bead that was something similar to this and it came out great. Keep up the great work man!
you have helped me allot in repairing damaged drywall areas in my home and I suck (used to) at drywall, even patched hole recently where wall AC was, looks like a pro did I must say HAHAHAHA , thank you!
"Life is short, don't tell me you make enough doing dry wall that it's worth working that much" probably the most sound advice on RUclips. Unless you have an extremely fulfilling job and bask in happiness every day in what you do, this advice applies to every job. Don't live your life spending, Spend your life living!
Ben. I've watch a lot of you videos. I have been doing drywall for 40 + years, and I can say i like most of your methods which you can consider a compliment. As you know, many drywall tapers have their own methods. They all get it done, but some ways are better than others. I don't think that any tapers will use the same strategies on taping. Keep up the good work.
I check my walls to see if they are plumb, tables & counters I'll check for level. I started drywalling when I was 12, now 49 years later I enjoy watching others looking for tricks or tips I might not know as it is never too late to learn something new. I've been watching several of your uploads the past few days and you are pretty much spot on. I don't know if you'll see this comment months after the video upload but I'll share a couple of tricks for those who will see my comment. Tip 1: Paint transfer from door sides and faces to door jamb & door stops. We've all seen them and had them happen or one day will. Here's how to deal with it in advance or with a known problem area. After your last finish coat has dried spray the door perimeter and jamb/stop area with furniture spray wax like Pledge®. This solves the problem almost every time, works great on closet shelves too to prevent things from sticking to them too. You'll find other uses for this trick as well when it presents itself. Tip 2: You've clear coated a finish on and there are tips/nubs that you can feel more than see caused by dust, an insect, etc. So you sand it and recoated and the problem was worse than before and you have to fix it again. THE NEXT TIME this happens to you try this; use a paper bag, crumple it some and briskly rub it with a light touch, you can add more pressure as needed but DO NOT rub it so fast or hard that you mar the finish. We've simply called this brown-bagging our work. Hopefully, I've just saved many countless hours of time & effort.
You are my only “go-to” for dry walling! Every time I have to do drywall I go back to your videos for some guidance…I still suck at it but at least I can fake it after watching you. Thanks!
The only "complaint" I have is that after watching your videos, I realize what I did wrong and have to go back and fix it. I'll be reworking my outside corners. Thanks for posting. I've learned a lot, and put quite a few more tools in my toolbox - and have also thrown some away. 😀😀
thanks for all your videos, they have helped me a lot through my first ever basement reno job I got. I'm a one man show, I did the framing right to the hardwood install. without your tips, I don't think it would have turned out as good as it has. BIG THANK YOU.
Thank you so much for doing videos like this. I have just begun my home improvement journey as an empty nesting mom. I discovered that part of the corner bead in a bathroom partial wall between the tub and the toilet had gotten damaged by water seepage over the years and was all rusty. I had thought it was just the baseboard trim that needed replacing but when I took it off I discovered a lot of nasty rust and crumbly drywall. I had never even heard of a corner bead before. 🧐But your video helped me figure out how to fix it and I am very grateful to you. I’ve started watching other videos of yours just because I find you so easy to listen to and entertaining. You also remind me a little bit of my son, who is also a skateboarder. Yes I watched a couple of your skateboard videos too.😉 anyway thanks again for this wonderful channel. Cheers.
Yep. Thank you for confirming there’s no way in heck I can do this for a chip in the corner of the drywall in my kitchen. I’d appreciate how to video. You sure know what you’re doing!
You took over 15 minutes to calm my nerves over the unprotected carpet and stair stringer. How dare you.!! Great video!! I use these for training our crews
11:07 super true. I live in the north east and here we live to work. I have friends in the mid west that work to live. And what a big difference in the quality of life.
@Vancouver Carpenter. Thanks Ben for sharing the information and your techniques. Doing the job right is always a good thing. I know that not only are you the drywaller on this job but also the carpenter. So doing the drywall work right only makes your baseboard work easier. Make things right for the next trade. Better than using alot of caulk to hide the sins of the drywaller. The homeowner is a great cameraman. I'm sure he appreciates the lessons and the attention to details. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.
Always great to watch....even when you’re rusty from not being on the tools 5 days a week. Only a Canadian will smile at your level....they are on right now $36 for the 6’ magnetic one.
SMH at how much better it looked after 15 minutes. Also, just typing a comment for the algo overlords of YT so it'll get promoted. Love your work, a true Picasso of Mud!
Ben has my telepathy been working? I have a very similar problem in my house, and have been staring at it for months trying to figure out what to do, and thinking what would Ben do? You are a life saver man, thanks a million!
You are a perfectionist! I can relate. I moved to GA and the workmanship in sheet rock work does not exist. Currently working on all my rooms. If I had the money, I would have had all the sheet removed and then shimmed the studs and had new sheet rock installed. Instead, I am slowly squaring my walls, corners and ceilings. In GA, buyer BEWARE!
If you want your second bead to line up with your first bead you could use a square(instead of eye balling it), if you are super picky. and it will take the guest work out of everything. Especially if you are doing the baseboard later. That way if you are not doing the baseboard, the person doing they baseboard will be appreciating us drywallers(mudders) that much more..lol
I've been binge watching recently as I'm about to tackle a huge project in my own home. I noticed the swiss cheese ceiling in the background. It looks eerily similar to what I have going on. How much of a donation do you require to get that video out this week? :D
The quick way is another layer of drywall. You will never noticed the height loss with 1/2" or 3/8" and if you're in a big city the wholesaler may have 1/4" drywall in stock. Otherwise you'll end up painting it red with a shotgun.
First time drywall repairer. Elec, plumbing, mechanical, cars, helicopters, I can handle. But drywall is frustrating for me. At the moment I have the exact same problem with the bathroom door entry way. I've cleaned the corner like you did, but what can I use in place of concrete fill (US version) for gaps where the corner bead goes? Half of my L/R ceiling, collapsed while doing the bathroom. Replaced insulation and 4 8X4 sheets of ceiling panel, just needs to be finished and painted. Your video's have helped along every step, from choosing the right mud, tools of the trade, and the confidence to tackle this myself. I'm 77 with COPD and I like to do my own home and auto repairs when I can.
I'm about to start doing the drywall work on my own house. I've been doing my house from zero and I really enjoy seeing your videos. This weekend I'm going to put my hands on the mud but I'm still scared about the results. I feel that I can mess it up jaja Cheers from Chile!
Your so right about making enough money to live doing drywall. I worked 8 to 10 hrs a day at regular job doing drywall for a company and after work and weekends would do side jobs. DEFINITELY no life and still got nowhere. Not worth not living....
Nice one! We just are drywalling our top level of our home. However, what we've asked ourselves, how do you deal correctly with mud waste? I've had a professional plasterer doing our home before, he just threw away old buckets with dried up mud. However I think that not very economical and recycling friendly so to say. However I tend to do the same, as I guess washing the buckets out and putting the waste in the toilet is not recommended at all.
I've been in the business for 20 years and it's always great to see someone that takes pride and do the job right
We have graduated from "feather your edges" to "tweaking the bead" ...thank you Sensei
I can attest that the end result of these corners is so good you'd never know this was a repair. Ben is a total magician!
I have no interest in drywall, taping or most of what is shown here. I like to watch this man do this work because he is completely relatable and very talented.
Such a good teacher and a good spirit! Always enjoyable.

“Just one more pass.... no leave it alone......na one more pass”. Me talking to myself when I’m taping. Thanks for the vid 🤙
story of my plastering life......one pass too many.
Same here.
Me: yep that looks pretty good, just need to get this corner a little straighter ... damn! Ok, I’ll sand that out.
@@shegocrazy 😂
This is me.
Yup gotta yell at my self to leave it alone
You are a life saver. I've learned soooo much from you and you have helped me Reno my place and my mom's rental. Keep up the great work .

you've given me a whole new appreciation and respect for being a drywall guy.... I've learned so much from you.THANK YOU so much.
This guy has helped me so much in doing home repairs, thanks

Very helpful I watched the full video, and also thanks for ‘bleeping’ as I am one of those dads that occasionally watches with a toddler around.
Watching you work is so satisfying it makes me think I can actually do it that well, too.
Almost NOBODY (in the US anyway) makes enough to justify working THAT MUCH.
You are a wise person. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks gives me idea how to fix a corner the previous homeowner made without a corner bead.
God to see you back...
Keep em coming
I always fought with my lights too until i switched to cordless. Saves me time and no more tripping over drop cords. Changed my life

Your tutorials have been really helpfull. Geartings from Serbia!

that stair trim and carpet reminds me of the duplex I moved out of last year. And that is not a pleasant memory. Anyway, I digress. I like your videos

You can do it!
Remember, whatever gets "messed up" can always be fixed 🖒. Good luck with your home 😊👊
Great job, thank you
Good job
Another awesome tutorial Ben. Just curious if you can share what caused all the damage that required the new ceiling to be needed?
Probably just ripping off the old corner bead and doing some minor re-framing
Good tip 👌
You do know that you are my hero of drywalling right?
Just dealing with the remnants of drywall dust at painting jobs drives me nuts. Its such a messy job.
Great job , I was checking out your light who makes it
Yep ! We are still watching. LOL
I was really worried about the carpet and the trim. 😆

How did you not destroy that drywall paper when using the paint scraper? Master of your craft!
I do like the vids and the quirky remarks to the audiences who are negative Nellie's! hahaha

Can you do a vid about tray ceilings? Specifically 135 degree angles.

Wow you are badass thank you !!!
It's ok, sir. I also have lights that require "kick starting".
