    I has hovering over the ESEE 6 cus I'm fan of ESEE then, I saw this video. Decided I'd give the M7 a go. I bought the black coated model. It's a beast and a pleasure to use. This is the second knife I purchased based of a recommendation from this channel and I couldn't be happier. Great content. Thank you

      That's true, only for collectors. You get what you pay for. The only real value, is their handle designs mostly and the looks. Geometries and other details, that are the most important on a good hard use knife, are "factory level" quality and not the best too. These are either collectors knives, or for experienced users, who know how to properly reprofile them and know the limits of their blades. They come very thick behind the edge, thicker than a lot of way cheaper knives and that's a shame. Also their edge stability, on any steel they make, isn't the best, they don't hold to hard use, like a cheaper Ka-Bar or Becker for example would. Not bad, Italians where always great designers, and you can see that on their great handle desings too! But not the level of semi-custom knives, people think they are.. Not even close..

    Lionsteel is an insane maker that produces knives for other big brand manufacturers. I used to have the DPx Gear HEST 2.0 made by them that I used to LITERALLY live in a shanty for a couple of weeks with no heat, running water or power whatsovever.

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 2 года назад +3

      I wouldn't call them insane. Their steel and heat treatments as their thickness behind the edge, are far not the best out there. Actually thickness behind the edge and heat treatments, are on the poor side. That's why they don't cost, as much as a Fallkniven, or a TRC knife costs...
      That's a shame though, because the makes some of the BEST handle designs with good handle materials too. However, the blade on a knife, is more important...

    • @topfueljunkie100
      @topfueljunkie100 2 года назад +1

      @@greekveteran2715 Could you share some information or sources to that information where the HT and edge geometry is found to be on the poorer side?
      I've seen plenty of testing done on their M390 which has definitely been lackluster compared to the level that steel should be performing at, however, that seems to be an industry-wide problem as many other makers have the exact same issues with M390 and its analogs. It's not isolated to Lionsteel.
      I've seen no other data or reports of poor HT on their other steels though, so I'd be interested in seeing what information you have on this.
      As for edge geometry, they appear to be pretty standard and on par compared to other similar makes and models. I've heard no negative reports and have not seen any data (measurements) showing them be any thicker behind the edge or having too obtuse an edge bevel as compared to other brand's knives. So again, I'm interested to see what you can share.
      As you no doubt know, it's pretty typical for mass produced knives to err on the side of caution and use thicker edges with more obtuse edge bevels so as to make a knife more robust and less prone to issues requiring warranty work leading to negative press, i.e. "my knife chipped!" "my blade broke!" "this brand sucks!" So I wouldn't be surprised to find out that larger knives like this M7 are .050+ behind the edge with 25 degree edge bevels. It is marketed after hard use after all. I'd imagine The TRC Apocalypse and the Fallkniven A1 are about the same. TRC is probably more like 20 degrees per side but I bet it's pretty close on behind the edge thickness. Fallkniven is of course convex, so no angle to the edge bevel per se, but their well known to be on the thicker side for the edge, especially the pro models. The F1 is about the thinnest for their more popular models.
      Now, I will say, I have no Lionsteel, Fallkniven, or TRC knives and have handled none, so I'm not disagreeing with you, just curious to hear more of what you're reporting and see some data or examples because I'd definitely like to know more about this as I wouldn't mind getting some Lionsteel knives if this isn't a big issue.
      Thanks!

      @@topfueljunkie100 You misundesrstood, what I said.Never said, they are the worse or sometihng. please, let me explain. I'm a profesionall sicne the 80's, when I got my first degree on Chemistry/Metallurgy. I make, maintain, restore and upgrade professional knives, of Cooks,Chefs Hunters, Butchers, Farmers etc. for 40 years now. I also live in the outdoors, and I have to use my knives, axes etc, in order to survive our every day here.It shows, that you speak, more from a collectors point of view. I might got you more angry,, but really hope I didn't because you're a really good and kind man.
      We all worship materialism nowdays, to the point anything we've bought, we have it as our precious "kid", so we get offended when someone says the truth, because truth hurts, doesn't it?
      Liosteel is a relatively new company, can't provide the quality the oldest companies, do. M390 costs a lot to heat treat it better. Belts cost more, to create a better blade geometry. If you wan't such a steel on your knife, avoid any Factory mass produced knife. Those steels can't be made properly in such quanties. If you're not a hunter, who uses such knives, and you're only a collector, forget what I said, because it doesn't matter...any knife is good for a collection.
      PS hardness of a steel (hrc) doesn't tell nothing about it's heat treatment quality. I mention that, becasue it's a common mistake. 90% RUclipsrs, that pretend to be experts, are the opposiste. so I would advise, to get your knowledge ,from proper places and not RUclips. there is a ton of missinformation on the subject here.

      @@androidoszpsz5873 If you want a good knife that you're going to use, then it all depends on the kind of use you need it for and the amount of money you can spend.
      A factory made knife, like the Moras, is always a good place to start.The BEST survival instructors use Morakniv, the exact same knives I suggest. Morakniv Companion and Morakniv Robust, both cost around 12$ to15$, perfect knives!
      If you're not going to use it much, and you just want a Heirloom quality knife, that will always be there for you and your ancestors, then ask a maker to make you one, by describing to him the style of knife you want.

      Lionsteel M4, is by far their best knife (except for people with XXL hands ). Lionsteel knives, only issue, is they come very thick behind the edge, The steels that they use, most of the times and some heat treatments are not the best they could be, but they still are great user, with great fit and finish knives. Just reprofile their edges, as with all factory made knives, and it's ready for use.
      The reasons they come cheaper, than other knives made in quality production countries, are in my opinion (Steel, heat treatment (which also costs but people don't know that, and the thickness behind the edge) That's also why, people don't understand, why Fallknivens cost more, which is because, both lamination with 2 steels used and handmade convex zero edge bevels, cost way more to produce.

    Based on your review, I got the same version as yours. My sheath fits better, but still can bind if put In wrong. It might break in with use. Very nice blade that just looks like a real knife! This knife is in the running as my expedition blade, which I feel a 7inch blade is perfect. It may beat out my White River FC7. Laugh, but I kind of like my Cold Steel Razor Tek. I've given up on carbon steel blades because, they rust to easily and don't hold an edge that well. As an example my RAT-7 is very good looking, but after stropping a bit, it slices paper. Then after just light feathering on soft cut firewood, that razor edge is gone! Even with my Steel Will Druid 200, that won't happen! I may try reprofiling the edge on the RAT-7. Since I hate coatings, I'm not sure a patina on carbon steel will really prevent rust? My only 2 concerns with the M7 are, first, as nice as the handle is, it could be a bit thicker, or have a bigger palm swell... and I'm concerned with rusting on the Sleipner steel? You mentioned it held up well in Florida. Would this steel take a patina? Otherwise great knife!

    Esee 6 is a bit lighter and a tiny bit smaller.
    The M7 seems to have a better steel and I love the geometry and design! If you need to get out quickly which one would you grab of the shelve?

    Lionsteel M4, TRC Mille Cuori, Survive Knives GSO 4/4.7/5. Fallkniven S1 Pro/ F1 COS etc, Mora Kansbol/2000/Bushcraft Black, LT Wright makes some great users too! Manly Patriot (Best EDC), Bark River Bravo 1 LT . Those are some of the best non Custom knives I've used. Enzo know Brisa, makes some of the best heat treatments out there, and has great edge and blade geometries, however, they also lack in handle design/ergos, because they are mainly hunting knives, thus the thin versatile handles.

    Hello Aaraon - This message has absolutely nothing to do with this LionSteel M7.
    I am going to take you back some years ago when you reviewed the Kershaw Skyline and recommended it for everyday carry. You recommended it, I bought the Scandvik steel version, and was very happy. Then you reviewed and recommended a titanium loop-over pocket clip for the Skyline, I bought one, and was quite pleased with it. Then you reviewed the Skyline with the Damascus blade. I bought one of those two, and, while I was at it, got a matching titanium loop-over pocket clip for that one too. Last week someone asked me for some advice about choosing an EDC knife. I brought out my collection, from the scalpel-like Kershaw ODII to my Zero Tolerance ZT200St, including my two Skylines. I lamented the fact that the Skyline had been discontinued, and, based on his input, I ended up recommending an Ontario RAT 2, D2 version. A couple of days later, I was poking around on BladeHQ, and, to my surprise, they were about to offer a limited run of Skylines with CPM 20CV steel. They went on sale on Thursday, at noon, my time. Just before noon I checked into the BladeHQ site and went to the Skyline page. At noon, I hit the refresh button and the beautiful "Add to cart" button appeared, and I ordered one, and it is on its way. Now I just have to order a new pocket clip for it and my collection will be complete.
    If you are interested, go to the BladeHQ page below.

    This knife has a great pedigree. Lion Steel have been making knives for years & Lion Steel is based in Maniago Italy where knives have been made since about 1400. Prices can be a little high but you get a lot in both materials and design. This knife brings so many design elements together. The integral handle really adds to great ergos & the blade design makes it work. FYI - not sure if someone else raised this. The sheath angle issue is caused by the cant of the blade (ie. its slightly crescent shaped). So the design element that gives the knife its power has a downside. Finally IMHO Lion Steel knives are simply good looking - the Italians do style so well!

      @@DL-ij7tf Yet, I just don’t want to find something else when striking Ferro rod is immediately needed. For the same reason, I don’t put Mora Companion into my list as well as some kind of Mora Eldris.
      Besides, a knife which is called or regarded as technical or hunting or survival knife while striking a Ferro rod is not allowed is on disadvantage when competed with other brand knives.

    • @DL-ij7tf
      @DL-ij7tf 2 года назад

      @@user-nl8yx3qy7y Ferro rods are a really recent fad for survival and outdoor use, a fashion that began with modern 'survival' TV shows because, despite being a newer technology than matches or even lighters, it looked more cinematic and sort of like something native Americans might have done (they didn't) to viewers, as if a ferro rod somehow brings you closer to nature or our ancient ancestors (they don't). They're fun to use and kids think they're neat but that's their only real advantage. It's insane how modern knife designs are held hostage by this niche, mostly useless feature that also makes the knives less comfortable to use. Almost anything big or small can be used equally or better to strike a ferro rod. Most rods come with a striker and the back of nearly any sawblade (on a Swiss Army Knife, Leatherman, Silky Saw, etc) is superior to nearly any knife spine. Long bladed knives are often especially bad since the blade will hit the ground or your tinder while striking.
