1. Tape up what you don't want painted. 2. Spray paint it brown, tan, or green. 3. Optional spray paint stripes and patterns of the same colors. 4. Remove tape and enjoy shooting.
@@zexnynex777From my experience finishing with lighter colors always looks the best & the most realistic, but always remember that you can always add more paint or colors.
I've painted a lot of rifles, you did a good job and gave good instruction. I really liked the split screen towards the end that showed you in street cloths w/ the black rifle vs. camo'd and geared up. Thanks for all your work man!
A great practical application of the camo work, both the painting and the clothing. I also appreciated the heads up on the clothing company. No one wants to walk around like a mall commando, but being able to blend in lets a person chose his tactics in case of an "unplanned situation". And, as Travis pointed out, his choice of camo was driven by the environment, which for most of us includes buildings, streets, etc. Still looking for more "grey man" clothing options. Suggestions are always welcome.
That split screen boldly illustrates the" black gun here I am !" situation yes if you want to draw fire just be the point man with the 3-4foot long black stick in your hands...the group leader'll be yelling "dammit Carl!"
It's about time, sir. And very cool shouting out Dirty civilian. They have been putting in work to bring good knowledge and information for the un/or maybe ill-informed. Hopefully, we will be stronger. Together, we learn. Divided fail.
I love the clip that is a side-by-side with you in camo and you in a black shirt and blue jeans. If you stare at the center is is insane the difference in being ready and being caught off guard can be. Your peripherals just get immediately drawn to all that black.
Travis is a true patriot and a model American. Love to see him promoting "civilians" having knowledge and being capable. Unlike some former army/ UFC and coffee sellers who claim patriotism but then say We The People shouldn't have certain gear and weapons. Travis you are a fucking legend. Embodiment of a Marine. Some videos: "Be sure to carefully degrease with acetone to remove every bit of imperfection." This video: "Put that sumbitch right in the dirt!" Love it.
Tbh, degreasing absolutely make the paint stick better, even moreso with primer... but, it's gonna get beat up if you're training with or using it, so... yeah, throw that sumbitch in the dirt.

Could you do a video on using hunting camos for "military" application? I feel like Realtree Edge, among others, is highly underrated in "Grey man" and "Minuteman" applications.
My edc gun: an assortment of 9mm and 10mm pistols Travis' edc: A FUCKIN SAW 😆 We are not the same. Anyway great video, I did exactly this on my bugout rifles, with indigenous veg patterns, breaking up the outline of the rifle and optic.
One thing I love that another channel said (it was either tactical rifleman or mike glover) is that they just kept some bottles of acrylic craft paint in their packs and basically finger painted their rifle to match their current environment. Acrylic craft paint doesn't hold up well at all but it doesn't really need to, you can just reapply as needed and if you need to you can scrub it off.
This is definitely more detailed than my go-to method of tan or brown base layer, then, using an old mesh laundry bag, I spray 'hex' pattern branches in OD, tan/brown (which ever was not the base). Does a very decent job for a forest floor with dead leaves and green brush area.
As a photographer, I can say the eye catches straight lines. It's why scraches in photos stand out. Breaking up the lines in your paint is highly effective.
10:38 i wear tropic multicam trousers up here in the canadian winter. My kit is simple, all white top and green bottoms to match with evergreens out here
Im going to try this one day on my less expensive rifle to see how it turns out , i was surprised that it doesnt have to be taken too serious in detail etc, like you said youre dirty with it, bc in some things i do im a little OCD and that sometimes can be a good thing but sometimes not when you need to be fast or make quick decisions, i appreciate your time and giving credit to others, being humble when youre a badass is a plus with us civies, just subscribed and watched your why your rifle isnt zeroed video, which is what im trying to get better at, i bought a lazer sight in tool i havnt used yet on a couple different firearms, one isnt exactly a long range weapon so i have it somewhat zeroed on maybe 50 yards or so , honestly im not very good at long range, id love to be able to get out to the range more but work, 4 children being a single father , divorced etc, not to mention the other factors like $ and so on, but hey maybe being that my name is also Travis i can somehow get a bit of that badassery rubbed off on me, if only i could have a damn M249 SAW as an edc, id be smiling all day long
For the Magpul bipod, I tied a single round of 220 cord (with a square knot at the back of the legs) on the inner shaft at the pivot to take up that space and get rid of that wobble.
One of the better rattlecan jobs online. Personally I dont paint optics....for 2 reasons..... 1. I sell them 2. I think a sniper veil or camo mesh does a better job of hiding the hard lines of the scope and top of the rifle. Great video
Some important tips for everyone: repaint your rifle anytime you're going into a real world conflict to match the mission area you'll be working in. Don't be afraid to repaint to apply fall colors or spring colors or whatever works best. In addition, keep flat white paint around in storage for winter/snow - the spray paint can will stay good for years. Next, if working outside keep in mind that your paint is just a **base coat** you don't need tons of details. Again if you're doing this in the real world, you want to loop some rubber bands on your gun and attach living natural foliage and other 3D elements to break apart the outline (particularly over the top of your scope and your handguard, the highest points on your rifle when shooting prone.
others I'm sure have had different results, but in my experience the krylon sticks the anything. the rustoleum seems to need the surface to be prepped. Had a lot of flake off with rustoleum.
