7:25 if you look at the bottom left, you'll see you were temporarily up-leveled to 80 so you could participate in the event :) you'll def be weaker compared to "real" lvl 80 characters with full gear, but strong enough to contribute. Generally if you see an event in a lower level zone you can kinda expect to be able to join in

as someone in the same boat as you, i cant describe how accurate this video is, i recently started the game as well with it launch in steam, and im almost at the end of the core game story going into the expansions, not only is the game great but as far as i seen i had such an amazing time talking to other players as well they were so helpful and chill i even remember swimming my way to a quest and met 2 players who are practicing ship sailing and joined them, it was such a little interaction but also so fun as exploring the map meeting people and having a character that feels like a real role you can play, the backstory the voice acting the choices and it impact on the story direction and so many more, i love ffxiv lore but the fact that in this game we are the ones who calls the shoots instead of mindlessly following quests is so awesome, i can go on to infinity with how much im loving the game but i still feel like that wont be enough, though i havent spent much time yet into the game the joy im having so far, is far too good to be describe 😄

Been playing FFXIV since ARR release and I gotta tell you if I hadn’t already started playing GW2 you woulda sold it to me.
The game is unlike anything else I’ve played. It’s definitely completely different to any other MMORPG I’ve played and you’re 100% right in that you get a true adventurer feel for playing this game.
From discovering landmarks via points of interest, getting hero points via challenges rather than just naturally through levelling up (though you do get some this way too) and seeing the sights via the Vista system, GW2 truly is an incredible MMORPG.

I just started 15 days ago, come from 11 years of WoW taking a couple breaks since 2006 quitting in 2020 about 2 years total in FFXIV. Loved all the extra things you could do compared to WoW. This is like all of those extra aspects improved and that being the point. It's so alt/ new player friendly. Not to say there isn't an overwhelming feeling at times. But I wish i would have tried it sooner, love the art direction. For me the combat got much better with the action camera mode, although i started with tab target since that is what i am most used to, but having the toggle on Left Alt for me is super intuitive. one minor note: if you are doing the story path of a dungeon and someone is watching a cutscene, the dungeon can NOT be progressed while the cutscene is still happening. doors wont open, bosses wont spawn. if you are a new player, dont feel pressured in skipping those cutscenes for your teammates and dont be scared you are left behind. they literally cant leave you behind =D

7:26 you get level scaled up for that event which depending on your gear, can actually make you stronger than someone who is at cap, since they do not expect you to have good gear while leveling. Outside of WvW, there are very few events that do this though.

Same mechanic also reduces your level if you are 80 and go into a lower level zone.
You can see this on the bottom left.
Your current level is 28 in white, but you are a little high for the area you are in, so it reduced you to 22, shown in green with down arrow
When you went through the portal it jumps to 80, again in green with up arrow
You may be higher level, but the gear and limited skills still makes you weak, the fight will still be harder than if you were actually 80 with proper gear.

    • @MegaMadVladMMO
      @MegaMadVladMMO  2 года назад

Yeah I saw the level syncing for going down depending on the zone. Wasn’t expecting to hear it works in reverse outside of PVP

    • @princecuddle
      @princecuddle 2 года назад +1

As a lower leveled player your gear stats are substantially lower then actual lv80 gear. Your personal level gets scaled up and not your gear. So you'll see that players with higher natural level and better gear will be substantially better than someone that's just scaled up.
This also works in reverse. Better geared players in low level areas will do noticeably more dmg even though they are scaled down.

I'm sure you've learned by now if you're still playing but:
10:00 pause here ish. The blue bar under the "champion war beast's" health pool is referred to as a break bar, it's like a cc specific health pool that receives damage from hard cc skills and cc debuffs(conditions). When it's emptied the boss critter that you're fighting will be stunned for a few seconds and usually take increased damage for the duration.
Also, another thing to note is that your skills that count as cc or innately apply cc condition effects will flash white with a white border. You can this on the 5, 7, and 8 skills on your action bar.
For any other new players I'd recommend looking up guides that cover boons/conditions "buffs/debuffs" as boon can double your damage, save you from cc, and prevent 1 shots from killing you while conditions function in a unique manner in gw2. Some conditions build up in stacks, commonly referred to as intensity, and others in duration.
A gw2 specific youtuber who has quick and too the point videos covering this is KuklukRUclips.

    1) right click (instead of left click) the chests you get above your mini map, most of them will open directly and let you skip a click.
    2) you can pull up the wiki from in game by writing "/wiki" and then pressing enter. You can pull up the event timer with "/wiki et" and you can pull up a specific item on the wiki by adding text or linking the item, for example "/wiki tome of knowledge".
    3) Use the "deposit all materials" option in your inventory to send all the mats you have currently on you to your material bank, from any place in the world.

I just found your Dragon's End video in the series and was ecstatic! My situation is the opposite: I'm a GW2 veteran (from launch) and just recently got into ffxiv (about 7 months ago now) thanks to watching Laranity's streams (she mainly plays GW2).
I thought I'd never touch it because of the sub fee, and regardless of how good a game may be it's something hard for me to excuse mostly because of how I play (not often. Very chill, slow. So upkeeping a sub sounds like a money drain). Plus I always had GW2, no sub fee, gorgeous game. Who'd need anything else?
Well what do ya know, I adore ffxiv. A complete blast a very much worth it. GW2 and ffxiv are such different games but for me they have very similar spirits/vibes.
I love ffxiv, but GW2 will always be the mmo love of my life. Hence It's such a blast to watch these, ty for making them!

I've seen a few others that did the same as you lol. GW2 to FFXIV. The opposite of what I did. It's always interesting to see people's thoughts going the opposite direction.
Yeah while the sub fee can definitely be a barrier of entry into FFXIV, one thing I do bring up to people asking about the game is the incredibly generous free trial it has, now spanning the base game and first 2 expansions. Though I also do say to those people to make absolutely certain they have the free trial version downloaded. If they buy any part of the game, they're immediately locked out of the free trial for that account.
      It's a bit of a mess lol
And thank you for watching! ^^

As a - at this point - decade-long Tyrian, there is so much to talk about, but I shall refrain from it (unless you have questions. If you do, ask away!)
However, a quick note about the music.
Guild Wars 2 has had a handful of composers over the years.
    Pretty much like this:
For the main game, meaning everything present at release, Jeremy Soule was the lead composer. If you walk through what we call "Core Tyria", you'll most likely hear his music.
For The Living World Season 1 and 2, Guild Wars 2's first and second respective episodic Mini-Expansions, as well as the Festivals, there were three main Composers: Stan LePard, Maclaine Diemer, and Lena Raine/Chappelle.
For Dragon Bash, the annual festivity celebrating our Victory over the Elder Dragons, Matthew Moore wrote the soundtrack, and Keenan Sieg - a technical designer at Anet - wrote one piece for Gw2's Super Mario 3D, the Super Adventure Box, which also has an annually observed festival of the same name.
For the First Major Expansion, Maclaine Diemer did most of the composing, with Stan LePard and Lena Chappelle helping out.
Diemer also composed the Raid Soundtracks.
For L(iving) W(orld) Season 3, Maclaine Diemer did all of the work as far as I'm aware.
As for the 2nd big Expansion, Path of Fire, again Maclaine Diemer did most of it, being joined by Wilbert Roget, Stan LePard, and Brendon Williams.
LW Season 4 was mostly Diemer together with help from Williams and Chappelle.
Then came the Icebrood Saga, technically also part of the Living World, though a bit different than other, prior episodes.
Here, Stan LePard really got to shine, he was joined by Maclaine Diemer as well as Garry Schymann, Brendon Williams, and Bryan Atkinson.
Now comes the Third Expansion, End of Dragons, and this is a bit special.
It is set around Cantha, a Continent that draws a lot from Asian and particularly Korean styles, and thus, the music was made to reflect that.
In addition to Maclaine Diemer once again taking to lead as a composer, he was joined by many artists from both the US and South Korea who helped him incorporate traditional Korean instruments into his themes.
These include Bryan Atkinson, Lena Raine, Andi Roselund, Michael Choi, Sojin Ryu, and Steve Pardo, as well as Joyce Kwon who sings the end credits song "A world without you".
If you walk around Tyria, you will find some references to our composers.
For example, on the Cursed Shore map, you can find a character called "Maklain the Minstrel", who also lends his name to Ascended Minstrel's gear.
Another, rather more sad tribute can be found in Lions Arch.
Southwest of the Crafting Hub (the giant sea star) you can find a statue of "Van Leopard", which can be interacted with to play several tracks all composed by Stan LePard, to whom Van Leopard is a reference.
Sadly, Stan LePard passed away in early 2021 at the age of 64.
The statue was erected soon after in remembrance of one of Tyrias greatest Musicians, the inscription reading "A musician of Immense Skill and Passion, Van Leopard penned many of Tyrias greatest hits".
    May he rest in peace.

WvW is not very newbie friednly as it requires level 80 + gear to be able to do anything. It also has an infamously guild based / discord based community, so you might have been playing at a good time, but it is difficult to tell as communication happens in discord / guild chats.
PvP on the other hand is very welcoming. You get a "PvP build" tab that lets you freely customize your PvP gear, and you get to freely choose your traits & skills and chnage them to your liking. You also can level & gear via PvP for PvE stuff, so you dont have to level in PvE at all if you dont want to.

I bought GW2 when it came out years ago. Then during the pandemic I jumped back into it late into the Heart of Fire expansion. There is so much to this game and you can really do as much or little as you want, as hardcore or casual as you want it and it all feels great. Each class plays differently for the most part, but every class has the capability to do most roles. You can swap your builds at anytime for whatever game mode you want. Also the crafting is really neat, on the surface level of basic crafting level up, it doesn't feel too varied and fantastic, a lot of ways to gain levels granted, but not exciting. But when you get into the ascended and legendary crafting it really get interesting and fun. Currently working on the Legendary sword Exordium, which requires several precursors and materials beforehand.
Exploration is heavily rewarded imo, always a hidden chest around the corner, and map completion rewards in achievements and item rewards. Oh and about achievements. Not just bragging rights, each tier of achievements rewards a chest of rewards, whether gold, luck advantages to loot, karma (vendor currency) or items. Some expansions give you exclusive rewards for fleshing out entire achievement track. Like gear, backpacks (cape), or other skins/cosmetics, even mounts!
It has a majesty to it that I heard WoW used to have in the past, where it takes time and effort to really get some cool stuff.

@@MegaMadVladMMO Four(?) of the legendaries that came out with Heart of Thorns have "questlines" (achievements) associated with them + crafting their "precursors."
It's really not as bad as some people make it out to be, haha. I lost track of how many I've made over the last couple years. Crafting is also really fast to level up if you have the gold/materials for it. Sometimes the worst part is just getting all the materials you need to make a legendary (map completion is required!).
You can also buy the so-called "gen1" and "gen3" weapons on the trading post, for a couple thousand gold. :> The gen1 ones came out with the game launch, and the gen3 are the new Aurene legendaries, that can have new skins unlocked for them through mini questlines.
And then there are the legendary trinkets, which are all "questline" based. They really require some effort. And there are three different ways to get legendary armor.
But, yeah, the best part of legendaries is they're usable on ANY level 80 character of yours on your account who can use that weapon (all at the same time, even). So, like, my ranger and my warrior can both use the same greatsword at the same time; I don't have to move it around my account. And you can change stats and everything with them while out of combat. They're really nice QoL items.

The further you go into expansions, the better it gets, as is usually also the case with FF14.
Do be wary, a lot of crucial story content is in the living world seasons + icebrood saga.
If you get into the expansions without playing those, you'd be having a tough time figuring out who certain characters are and why they have ended up where they are, and certain important story beats will be lost.
If you are looking to buy the expansions, the steam version has a complete collection, which includes all the living world seasons + icebrood saga together with the expansions.
It does cost quite a bit, but that's the price we've all paid for a non-sub MMO.

As a quite new player, human ranger, noble, I also just discover my sister is alive, not two days ago. It was quite emotional as how all the dialogue and the assignments lead up to that, and I almost feel it was a spoiler you just blurted it out. 😉
What both my kids and I love the most about this mmorpg, is the freedom to explore, and the ability to play for real for free! I have bought the expansions but my sons play a single character for free and are quite far in.
Compared to back in WoW, where they could only go max lvl 10 for free, and they were stuck to doing the same quest over and over again, because they don't play enough for me to have three (expensive) subscribtions.
They don't play enough gw2 either (yet) to buy it. But perhaps they will, we are having quite the time fighting side by side. The downlevelling system that enables that is ingenious!
Oh, and is the fighting system! The way you can move and dodge, and hit with aim alone, instead of just stand there with a boringly timed swing to your selected target. Brilliant fun!
Only ting I will say is that somehow you need to intentionally work to keep the game uncomplicated, because with the absolute myriad of possibilities, it very quickly will be, and analysis paralysis looms around every corner. I've had some pants in my inv now for several lvls, that I still can't decide if I would wear! 😉

I've spent more than 3000+ hours in this game. Pretty much did the same thing in the original Guild Wars. There is a lot of content to go through in this game and it is VERY easy to become distracted with all of the sidequests and the different things available from each race. I've got a character of each profession and have used all 5 races. Even with all of that time that I have invested in this game, I haven't done everything that is available to do here. It has been a bit difficult for me to focus on completing everything on one character at a time. It has been a very fun experience for me and I wouldn't have it any other way. Some people like to rush through the content to quickly get up to level 80 (max level) but when you do that, you end up missing out on many of the other things that are available to you here. My humble suggestion is that you pace yourself so that you don't miss out on any of the content. Welcome to Tyria and have fun in your adventures! 😁

Tiny note: While the music is great and has been going back to GW1...there is an alternative aspect to the in-game soundtrack that is equally nice, the ability to craft your own soundtrack. Probably will have to find a guide or visit the forums that tell you how, just saying it's a nice option to have. I think there are a few times or type of thing happening that you can't change...such as cutscenes etc etc, but ambient and encounter/battle songs can all be replaced with things you like for those situations.

So having done what you have done but in reverse GW's 2 to FF14, the combat in GW's 2 is just so much more fluid. And when you need to move out of a attack it is much more crap I have to dodge RIGHT NOW... vs Oh I can just slowly walk out of this damage oh look I got out of it.... oh now I can go back in and continue to fight.... The story in FF14 is good I can not deny that... But sigh its so slow to do quests..... lol I think GW's 2 way of fighting and leveling is far superior. So I do hope you continue. If you get lost people will always help you out.. Don't rush to get through everything just enjoy the ride!!!! Yeah, from what I’ve seen from both games, they’re absolutely different experiences entirely. FFXIV’s combat definitely picks up in end game when you’re basically attacking with guitar hero and moving with a DDR pad lol
Can’t deny that GW2 going against the MMO questing grain feels good. While FFXIV does that with longer quests to add to the story, one of them is paced much better while the other has very high payoff for staying with it

In my opinion, the quality of the music takes a big step up when the game moves away from Jeremy Soule as the composer. Playing both, only thing FF14 does better is
    1.)Battle music
    2.)One character is all classes.
    3.)emotes
    4.)crafting
5.)Zone weather and ambience( nothing beats the light coming through trees in Shroud, feels like a summer morning as a kid.)
    Gw2 does these better
    1.) Open world
    2.) PvP (World and Instanced)
    3.)combat
    4.)races
    5.)dye system
I would say I see both equally in terms of PvE high end content.
GW2 is more free and do as you please.
FF14 is do as you please, but also you gotta follow this long seemingly endless path(MSQ as many things are locked behind them.)
Hearts are GW2 quests. You don't even need to talk to them to start or complete a heart. You get rewarded XP, map completion, and Karama points. Each one of these Heart NPCs are actually a vendor and sell items for karma. If you don't do this you will take awhile before finding necklace earring/ring replacements as you level from 1-80

GW2 vanilla gameplay did not feel that good at release but in its current state it is very laid back mmo with some very strong pve(some fights in gw2 are superior to wow like sunsqua CM which is a masterpiece of a fight). Not sure if you are sponsored but one of the core issue of the game is its cash shop. For B2P game it goes pretty hard on the fomo cashshop and lack of natural QOL. The story is ok, story content is a bit lengthy for what is is but the universe is rich and coherent and they did a good job of intertwining story content and mastery unlocks in expansions. About pvp, GW2 has by very far the best ranked pvp ever, RvR kind of suck it is a decent playground for top players or social players who like zerging for account value.
