I use a large zip lock bag around the filter to catch the oil. It's flexible and stays reasonably stable when spinning off the filter. During cleanup, I put all used paper towels etc in the bag, zip it up and dispose. I also find it easier to remove the front passenger's side wheel to access the filter. I usually rotate the tires so taking the wheel off makes sense.
i have done 2 oil changes on my honda passport, i watched a ridgeline owner on youtube, he put a ziplock plastic bag over oil filter, unscrew it slightly and let the oil drain out, then completely unscrew the filter and let it drop into bag. little to NO oil spilled onto subframe or my garage floor and didn't make a huge mess. highly recommend ziplock bag method to catch the oil dripping from oil filter removal.
@@OwenLucas yea, i wear nitrile gloves. I have also tried the aluminum foil method, where you cover the subframe with aluminum foil, but that creates a mess on my garage floor. Ziplock bag method is the best. Little to no mess.
You do not need to jack it up or even take the wheel off. It will be a tight squeeze getting under the vehicle but it can be done. Turn the steering wheel to the right for access to the filter. Make sure to use the parking brake and put blocks behind the tires to keep the vehicle from moving.
Does the Honda oil have additives like Valvoline Modern engine oil to help prevent carbon buildup on intake valves that is caused by these new GDI engines?
I am not familiar with the additive package but I am pretty sure that Honda's oil formulation would be the ideal use for its engines. I used the Ultimate Full Synthetic 0w20 as opposed to Honda's regular full synthetic. Its about $3 more.
I Did the oil change on my 2016 Honda pilot did what the guy from autozone told me buy 6 quarts of oil but I put all the 6 quarts of the oil I don’t think it’s bad for the engine since it has high mileage and we run the truck a lot or I messed up by putting all the 6 quarts ?

Those are great ideas!
One of the best step by step instructional videos I have seen

That is a great idea, I would wait till the oil is cold, synthetic oil is pretty toxic on the skin especially when it is HOT.

Why? Can you document this?@@OwenLucas
I take the wheel off to remove the filter. I’ve tried every other way and this just seems to be the simplest and cleanest way to do it.
I agree, I don’t like getting oil all over the subframe.
Love your content bro gives me boost to work on my car too. ✌🏻✌🏻
Glad to hear it!
V good presentation
Thanks a lot!
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Did you remove your front passenger wheel to do this or just turn it?
I removed it for the video but have since just turned it. Much easier.
Can you change the oil without jacking up the Pilot?

@@OwenLucas Both are fine oils to use. As long it's a reputable brand. I use Eneos by Nippon oil sold at NAPA auto parts. Really good oil.

Appreciate the ‘holes’ heads up…..ALOT!!
Remember not to over tighten the drain plug. Use a torque wrench.
45 N-m or 33 lb-ft
That is correct, a very often overlooked procedure. Thank you for the tip!
I didn't see you torque the drain plug? What would be the torque in lb?
It's 29 ft lbs.
Add ceratec after breaking in period.
Nice !!!!
Thanks!!
How about telling us often fully synthetic oil should be changed 😡
The Maintenance Minder on the gage cluster will tell you when to change the oil. It’s usually around 7-10k miles but I like to change mine around 5k.
I also like changing at 5k.
