This is five years old. And I’m hearing these speakers for the first time today 25/04/2024 in Singapore at Audio Alpha at Adelphi. Thanks to Richard, the Manager, who set them up for us. We thought they were better than their biggest brother the 409’s. Bass was much tighter. Was totally impressed.

Like so many high-end speakers: With slow music tracks, with as few instrumental arrangements as possible, which are presented in this way, they usually sound high-resolution and impressive 🤩, but with powerful songs - hip hop, dance, pop, classical large orchestras, etc. one noticeably misses dynamism in the entire frequency range and so-called large volume 😯🤷🏻♂️🎞️🎚️🔊 ...
well they are not a "large" speaker, and certainly there are much less costly speakers that have deeper bass and/or more dynamics, better treble energy, smoother response, more transparent, flatter frequency response etc... but I can guarantee that there isn't one speaker out there that has all those qualities over this one, and I haven't even listened to this model. The point is: loudspeaker design is a tradeoff no matter how you build it because as of right now, nothing is as good as the "real thing".
I think I get what you're saying though, too many people say too many times how incredible something is.. and as of yet, I've not read a review that hasn't mention said product "compares favorably to speakers costing much more" blah blah blah.. I think they'd eventually call that a singularity, no?
First of all the FS407 is a relatively small size speaker. The FS408/FS409 would suit this room much better. The FS407 will sound much more dynamic in a smaller room, due to room gain and interaction. Second, the front-end is fully analogue. For modern music the type of amplifiers/dac can have a big impact on speed and dynamism as well. The Vela range paired with the right front-end and adapted tot the room is actually very much suited for modern music.

Andrew Jones was obviously engaged by ELAC to gain attention for the US market. The better ELACs are engineered in Kiel, Germany.
I have had a pair of these for 9mpnths now and I am very happy with them. Like other high end components they are best served by high quality power cables, I use Prima Luna 400i tube amp and good interconnects. My room is also very wide and open, getting ideal results is a whole package.

Audio Alchemy is back? (I recall them from 1995 I think. A stack of tiny boxes. I think they sounded nice though.)
I currently own the ELAC FS407, besides for the cabinet changes would these be a noticeably different/better speaker?
Yes! The sound is noticeably more balanced and quicker. Especially the top end is less aggressive.
