My problem with this act is that it's obvious the guy is using remotes and special mechanics to make objects move, and he's probably using a monitor or just standing in the back somewhere to watch everything, and we never see a proper prestige of himself or Amanda at any point. He's leaving far too much unseen for it to feel mysterious. The secret of great "magic" is to make us think we're seeing everything, and then fool us anyway.

Y'know, the first audition of the Phantom, I was kind of intrigued, and probably because it was executed far better than this follow-up, but the more I think about it--Magic is far more compelling when you have the Magician in front of you on the stage to put in things that disprove your original notions. The invisibility angle, and things just moving is a little too gimmicky especially considering that we all can figure the "phantom" not being present and visible gives the upper hand to working around things.
When David is in front of the mirror and he steps to the side, revealing that no one was next to him, I laughed so hard 😂 then Amanda appears obviously from the other side of the mirror 😂
What makes it not that great for me is in the box you can see the reflection of a different set of lights in the front part of the box, and between those lights is the mirror if you will that lets you see through it if the back lights are turned on, and if the front ones are turned (turned them on to make her “invisible”) you can’t see through it, lol!
I dont get the magic part.. the box was still standing there in the dark, didnt move and she didnt reappear somewhere else (in person). So how did she become invisible? 🤔 this act also proves how the judges are involved cause this would never be possible without at least Amandas (and maybe also Davids) involvement
@@replicativeimpact1574 There's a simple psychologic thing in magic: Tell an audience member to do something and in 99% he or she will do exactly that. Even if they aren't briefed for the trick beforehand. Most people don't want to ruin the performance so they nearly would do anything the magician wants them to.
Simon was right in the sense that there are two gaps in the act - 1) It wasn't revealed during the act if Amanda was correct about what David wrote down; 2) Amanda had to be in on the act - she clearly read/followed a script and prompts, and didn't reveal her whereabouts during the act, and went along with it... if she wasn't, she would have said she wasn't and would be as amazed as everyone else about how she could no longer be seen and how she somehow guessed David's thoughts correctly... but she didn't. All this made it disjointed and incomplete. Later she as good as confirmed this by saying she wasn't interested in being the "Debbie McGee [magician's assistant]" of an act... We know Amanda can't read minds - she can barely read a newspaper... that part of the act doesn't make sense.
The phantom read David’s mind and transmitted the info to Amanda’s mind, we are energetic beings and our minds act as receivers and transmitters of information. Most people have this experience subconsciously like when thinking about a certain person and moments later they call you or text you.
Chill out guys! It is an entertaining to watch. Don’t get yourself caught into trying to solve the trick. He puts on a good show. Everything from his voice, his make-up, and his performance overall, he got me to watch till the end!
Actually the main problem is that the trick was too obvious, so there's no trying to solve it. And it actually wasn't entertaining... It's so slow and so boring.
Makeup?? What part lol Trying to solve the trick? Uh it was obvious to a person older than 5 Entertaining?? It was boring af, the beginning was intriguing, till he made Amanda "invisible" hahaha
I wish Amenda explained about how she was, where she was? How she know David's childhood memory? It looks like she was instructed while she was inside the box. Look close to the box where, I believe, Amanda was standing the whole time. There is a high power front light which made Amanda seem disappeared and when it's off, there she is again. It's a silly, staged, mirror, and light effect performance. SORRY but NOT IMPRESSING AT ALL!!
The phantom told david to write his thought in the paper , david should have confirmed the thought by showing everyone what he wrote in the piece of paper and not just by merely agreeing to what amanda said. David was not at all surprised by the fact that amanda read his mind, why? The phantom told simon to think of a number and simon showed 7 but it had no relevance in the trick . If amanda became really invisible then it should have been shown by opening the box in which she stood infront of everyone . Only when amanda went inside before being invisible and came out after being visible was the box opened. When david stood infront of the mirror phantom told amanda is standing to his left, david shifted towards the left but didn't bump into amanda, yes people will say that the phantom told that she had got the ability to go through solid things but if that is the case then how did she open and close the box and pull the chair and sit on it? How did david remember the exact time of the incident which had occurred 40yrs ago ? He said that it was 12.15 pm that trying to avoid the sprinkler system he fell in the cannal. Moreover it looked like david knew what to do as in the starting even before the phantom could tell david to write his thought on the paper he lifted the pen and paper. So because of these questions not being answered the trick could not deliver a good impact, atleast it didn't leave a strong impact on me.
Why are the judges willing to get so involved in an act that they would pretend they went invisible for the sake of the person. Surely that shouldn't be allowed
because it adds variety to the show. If you didn't know the majority of these acts are talent scouted and invited to come to the auditions. It's is far from being an organic process.
I like The Phantom but this was so drawn out and "clunky" feeling. Amanda was in the box the whole time, and David never confirmed whether or not they guessed his memory correctly during the act like Simon said.
but they did....if you watch and listen...Amanda said so in the mirror scene that David in a uniform fell in to a river......and yes David confirmed this later by admitting as a cub to avoid the shower he stepped back and fell into a canal...... the magic of this is getting the judges to find this out themselves
the flaw for that act is that making everyone believe amanda is invisible and following his commands like opening the box etc. where in fact absolutely not true..amanda should testify that being one of the judges🥴
@@craigblyth783 problem is people are thick. The things they don’t understand get rejected. There needs to be a new show only for the most unusual of acts.

Pretty sure that was just to show everyone that Amanda could see them from where she was since he had Amanda say out loud how many fingers Simon held up.
Amanda went in on it, when she was put into the 'invisible realm' by standing in front of a transparent LCD 'in the invisible box'... All the Phantom magician needs is put VFX in the middle LCD to cover Amanda to make her 'invisible'. Now, since Amanda is just waiting in the box, David didn't bump or feel Amanda's presence when he stood in front of the mirror. David's writing on the note can be easily seen by using zoom camera from above him when he wrote it on the judges desk. Set the clock (and prolly everything else) by remote and brief Amanda to read David's writing from behind the box. Simon is on point on this one. By the way, Simon always picks the number 7...or 717
I thought the same thing about what David wrote on the paper. The ghost never asked about it and I was waiting for that when Amanda went back to her seat. Still though I wonder, how did he KNOW what David wrote ? and she DID describe what he wrote. That part is really interesting. It's missing the part where you're amazed. You're supposed to think you see and know everything. Then you get surprised by something unexpected. That's the payoff that was missing.
The box , which made Amanda invisible , has two sections. the part she entered from the back and the front part separated by a special glass, its transparency is controlled electrically or by the lighting. its so clear ....!
Of course they have to pretend they don't know what's going on, even though after however many series they've done, they've encountered similar acts in the past (plus, of course, those chosen to go on stage will likely see the fishing lines used to manipulate objects which are invisible in-camera). Added onto which, they're probably all familiar with shows like Magic's Secrets Revealed, which explain how a variety of popular illusions are achieved.
@@aguyfromnewzealand3392 It wasn’t a real mirror, it was one of those mirrors with screens in it and it just showed the real time video of Amanda from the box. Which is also why her movements during that seemed so restricted.
The box was nothing more than a two-way mirror in front of Amanda as long as the back row of lights were lit up, which you could obviously see, then she was visible. As soon as the front lights were lit up and the back row turned off you could see a double row of lights in the front. The second row now only being a reflection of the front row. Now she disappears??? behind the mirror. She never moved away from that. It would have been much more impressive to have one of the other judges walk through the box from Back to Front proving that Amanda had truly disappeared which is absolutely possible to do but at least it would have been impressive. If you read the rest of everyone's comments you will easily figure out how this entire routine is done
Would be curious to hear from the phantom as to why the memory bit was never revealed on stage. Did he forget? Did he think it went wrong so he skimmed past it? Also I'm all for magic acts but it's unfair to have the judges in on the trick. Only magic gets this service
@@alfiehutton2612 reveal a messed up trick on another performance? Nah he just messed it up. Idk why he didn't reveal it. Gotta be a reason but it was def a mistake
"The witches" ruined the witches. That was one boring act. Reading pieces of paper and then a rat that was in a hidden compartment. The humor of the judges was the only thing interesting about the whole routine.
I believe The Witches were actually too scary so they were instructed to light up the mood. You can see them talking with the production team right at the start. David was even covering his ear to hear them.
Before David is asked to pick up the pen, he does it way before it is announced. Have a feeling the judges are also staging their reaction, just something is off about this whole act. It also seems way too unbelievable that this is real magic, which just makes me believe the entire thing was staged. Also why on earth was no one asking Amanda where she went, how she teleported from the mirror to the box instantly, what happened when she was looking into the mirror and how she the knew the memory. Did she have visions of it? Did someone tell her? This act was too mysterious to seem legitimate
What I thought was weird was that he picked a memory that had an exact time. If I picked a random memory from my childhood I wouldn’t be able to tell you an exact time.
Dead giveaway with the table moving after David put paper in box, assistant concealed in table can access the box alter clock and move items using magnets. Amanda never leaves box just clever lighting to conceal her, voice is not hers but sound alike and mirror part is just a projection, average illusion at best and I am no expert
but dude with this comment you put yourself out to be....table never moved...please tell us how an assistant could be that versatile to manipulate the clock etc...yes maybe Amanda still in box...question is really....could you have pulled this off?...after all it was only an average illusion...should be easy huh
Yeah. Dreadful act really. Blatantly obvious what was happening at every stage All the table stuff was all done mechanically under the table Amanda never leaves the box and even in the mirror it doesn't even look like her if you look at her face David messed up so many times aswell 😂 At the mirror the phantom says stand on the x and look to your left, Amanda is standing right beside you But David steps to his left (where Amanda is apparently standing invisible) and the phantom screams at him to move back to the x 😂
@@craigblyth783 Watch again back right of table moves upwards at 4:55 and again at 5:11 . Plenty of room in the table to the right for an assistant. I said I am no expert just my observations using common sense. Could I have pulled this off, most probably with all the props and practice as you could as well given that the person who did is also a normal human. Most illusions would be far easier to do than lets say card or coin manipulation.
The trick is really simple. The clock, the box, the chair, etc are using some kind of remote control. When david says the clock, the magician set it up then. That is why the clock needed to be covered up first. The box and the chair is simply using remote control. The paper probably has some kind of thin layer of magnet, and below the desk there is moving magnet that drag the paper. That is why the paper need to be spread that way. And amanda trick is so simple. The box has two layer and some kind of mirror. Amanda still there while the box looks empty. And then she was brought backstage so she can do mirror performance. And the storyline has no satisfying ending. As simon says.
If you look at the lights it should help. When Amanda is in the box the back two lights are on- when she's not the first light and the "back" light are. Not saying anymore than that. Magic is a lot of smoke and mirrors after all.
When Amanda stood behind the lighted door you can see a shadow run off stage. Most likely it was Amanda running off to her left where no one can see her. The only thing I can't explain is her in the mirror.

I think I have a solution to this, when she stepped into the box she never left till end. The box could project her from inside the box onto the mirror. I'm sure one day we'll find out for sure when the identity is revealed 😉
Simon’s got a point. It was really useless. So whats with amanda reading the mind of david when david wrote it down on a piece of paper. Why would he wrote it down and not exposing it on what it is written in it.
Yes! I believe she AND David are part of the act. How did he get David's keys the first time? Who knows what David really wrote, noone got to see it! I think it is quite obvious that Amanda And David are in on this act.
That’s wot I thought the 1st question any 1 should of ask was 2 Amanda and if she was at the mirror and opening the boxes none of them did that at all , all abit strange 2 me
She's definitely part of the act but only after she goes inside the box. There were probably some instructions there for her to follow. That's why she doesn't know how to react and is silent when she comes back. There's no way they would allow someone to be part of an act from the very start.
BGT is supposed to be about people with talent. This magician is just a guy using a collection of common stage effects such as Peppers Ghost (Amanda in the mirror) and gauze to make a person disappear from a box. The main trick with David's childhood memory was botched and the champagne failed to pop on cue. This act does not deserve a spot in the next round. If I were judging I would have used my red X.
No. But she did know in advance what Amanda would be wearing so clearly this terrible act was helped in many ways. The advance notice of clothing. Pressing the buzzer at the end etc.
It just proves it’s a set up by the judges and crew, it’s so difficult when doing something like this live. Normally it would be smoother because it could be rehearsed and timed better, on this occasion It went on too long, that’s why David’s reveal of memory wasn’t defined properly. He knew that and that’s why he went over the top explaining to Simon. Amanda must stop taking part in these “magic” acts, she loses all credibility as an independent judge.
The glass box has a 2-sided mirror in the middle. Initially the 2 rows of lights are on in the back, allowing Amanda's image to show through. Then those turn off, and the first row of lights on the front side of the mirror go on, so that all we see is the reflection of lights on the front side of the mirror.

Liked the part where David stepped into the spot that Amanda was supposedly standing in. Kind of exposed the trick.
Thats what i thought rolo
We know Amanda can't read minds - she can barely read a newspaper... that part of the act doesn't make sense.
and a school boy trick of pepper ghost was over worked
Yeah she's in on it and I guess peppers ghost. It's a shame because to me a judge being in on it makes it rigged.
Umm...his makeup?
Actually the main problem is that the trick was too obvious, so there's no trying to solve it. And it actually wasn't entertaining... It's so slow and so boring.
Makeup?? What part lol
Trying to solve the trick? Uh it was obvious to a person older than 5
Entertaining?? It was boring af, the beginning was intriguing, till he made Amanda "invisible" hahaha
The other main problem is that this whole trick skit was boring af
@@femalehobbitwithhairyfeet And corny. Don’t forget corny. Lol
What was Simon's 7 for? What was on the other piece of paper David pulled from the box? I'm with Simon on this.
Just to show that Amanda could see him from where she "was"
The phantom told david to write his thought in the paper , david should have confirmed the thought by showing everyone what he wrote in the piece of paper and not just by merely agreeing to what amanda said.
0:34 David held the pen before the magician said the words. He knew what to do in advance. Clearly everybody knows what’s happening.
And on top.. at 5:10 you can see the desk corner lifts up a little. A good perf with little mistakes.
Why are the judges willing to get so involved in an act that they would pretend they went invisible for the sake of the person. Surely that shouldn't be allowed
Most mind-reading/mentalist acts are like that unfortunately.
because it adds variety to the show. If you didn't know the majority of these acts are talent scouted and invited to come to the auditions. It's is far from being an organic process.
Because it's Britain's got talent
Because it's all about money

That is why Simon is a super judge. Many parts of the act didn't make. Like what did Simon holding 7 fingers meant
Pretty sure that was just to show everyone that Amanda could see them from where she was since he had Amanda say out loud how many fingers Simon held up.
Maybe 7 is the age David was when he got into a fight with a sprinkler and lost ?? Who knows !!!! 👍🖐️
What started as a bit exciting ended in disappointment.

David is in on the act
Dead giveaway with the table moving after David put paper in box, assistant concealed in table can access the box alter clock and move items using magnets. Look at chair on the left, bottom of the leg there a wire, either to pull or a radio control on it to move it
but dude with this comment you put yourself out to be....table never moved...please tell us how an assistant could be that versatile to manipulate the clock etc...yes maybe Amanda still in box...question is really....could you have pulled this off?...after all it was only an average illusion...should be easy huh
Yeah. Dreadful act really. Blatantly obvious what was happening at every stage
All the table stuff was all done mechanically under the table
Amanda never leaves the box and even in the mirror it doesn't even look like her if you look at her face
David messed up so many times aswell 😂
At the mirror the phantom says stand on the x and look to your left, Amanda is standing right beside you
But David steps to his left (where Amanda is apparently standing invisible) and the phantom screams at him to move back to the x 😂
Wrong on pretty much every count there - you certainly aren't any expert.
Simon is right on the money. There were loop holes in the act.
Which loop holes
It would have been a great performance if he asked David whether the vision of Amanda’s was correct!
How would Amanda have known what David’s memory was tho
The Phantom's voice reminds me so much of Sailor Moon's Wiseman...extra creepy. Whoever this performer is fantastic!
MY ONLY QUESTION IS HOW DID HE MAKE AMANDA DISAPPEAR????
simple light trick.
✨ *MaGiC* ✨
Amanda well... She didn't disappear physically but they in fact... made you think she did
She was inside the box the whole time it was a screen for a while
If you look at the lights it should help.
The only thing I can't explain is her in the mirror.
that was the person who was helping her watch closely before u can see a hand
There was one of the stage crew putting a panel on and off the box she stepped in. That's who walked off the stage.
Those people were the crew that helped her in and helped her out
There's like a camera inside the box that reflects her mirror, They made that to look like Amanda was standing next to David.
I dont think it was Amanda at all. Just an impersonator. That's why her face is slightly shown

Basically, all that happened is Amanda got up and stood in a box for the whole act, whilst some guy backstage used remote controls to make objects move and then pressed David's buzzer at the end. Great act That's the first time I've ever agreed with Simon, I thought a part of the act was missing, and we never got to see what David wrote. 3:36 ''Amanda speak if you're alive'' My problem with this act is that it's obvious the guy is using remotes and special mechanics to make objects move, and he's probably using a monitor or just standing in the back somewhere to watch everything, and we never see a proper prestige of himself or Amanda at any point. He's leaving far too much unseen for it to feel mysterious. The secret of great "magic" is to make us think we're seeing everything, and then fool us anyway. You can just tell by the audience's reaction that something's off or missing. An interesting concept that left lots of room for improvement with the execution. Amanda was too quiet during the act. When she had "appeared" and was "moving" things, I expected her to laugh, scream, comment, and ask questions like "What this" or "You want me to do it now" - that's what gave me a weird vibe. Simon’s got a point. It was really useless. So whats with amanda reading the mind of david when david wrote it down on a piece of paper. Why would he wrote it down and not exposing it on what it is written in it.
When Amanda came out of the box, she was acting by looking amazed. She obviously was in the box the entire time. So why act. Was she part of the act?
Yes! I believe she AND David are part of the act.
How did he get David's keys the first time?

That’s wot I thought the 1st question any 1 should of ask was 2 Amanda and if she was at the mirror and opening the boxes none of them did that at all , all abit strange 2 me
She's definitely part of the act but only after she goes inside the box. There were probably some instructions there for her to follow. That's why she doesn't know how to react and is silent when she comes back. There's no way they would allow someone to be part of an act from the very start.
My favourite act of 2022
I CANT BELIVE WE KNOW WHO THIS MAN IS NOW
It’s all staged this year, the guy who got ‘surprised’ by his mum and daughters to sing already had a microphone on his shirt so he knew.
Maybe it was just a coincidence that he was wearing that shirt 💁♀️
BGT is supposed to be about people with talent. This magician is just a guy using a collection of common stage effects such as Peppers Ghost (Amanda in the mirror) and gauze to make a person disappear from a box. The main trick with David's childhood memory was botched and the champagne failed to pop on cue. This act does not deserve a spot in the next round. If I were judging I would have used my red X.
Pause at @6:39 and you can clearly see it’s not Amanda. 😬😬
No. But she did know in advance what Amanda would be wearing so clearly this terrible act was helped in many ways. The advance notice of clothing. Pressing the buzzer at the end etc.
“I’m over here David” -invisible man
i think the final two would probably be Loren Allred and The Phantom
What was the point of David reading only one of the two pieces of paper? Wasn't he supposed to read the answer that Amanda gave?
I believe that was his memory of falling in the water & the hour & minute it happened. The ither was the invisible man's note.
This was a poor “trick”, such a shame.
Thanks so much ❤️
The glass box has a 2-sided mirror in the middle. Initially the 2 rows of lights are on in the back, allowing Amanda's image to show through. Then those turn off, and the first row of lights on the front side of the mirror go on, so that all we see is the reflection of lights on the front side of the mirror.
What's with the 7 fingers for Amanda just to look & read out loud when she was invisible? Simon must have felt like giving a middle finger then.
