    I'm a professional seamstress outside of the Raleigh/Charlotte NC area. I get at least one call about price every day. You cannot base a tailor's work on price only. You're paying for quality and speed, as well. (I always find it amusing when a customer complains about the price of a service they have no idea how to do themselves. They forget they are paying for my 20+ years of experience.) I find that the type of person who goes by price alone generally views clothing as disposable. They want the best deal; the largest quantity of cheap clothing. I'd rather have a client bring me one or two garments they're going to get a lot of wear out of than ten things they picked up off their closet floor.

    • @christiejones593
      @christiejones593 9 лет назад +6

      Mia Exactly... People will pay 1.00 for a garment and want you to remake it for nothing. It doesn't matter if they pay 1.00 or 100.00 our time and skill goes into the garment the same. I do have them that say I saved a lot of money on the garment so I can afford to get it altered. Then you have those that pay 500.00 and do not want to pay for quality work. We all have to make a living.

      Antonio Centeno o brilliant video. Great explanation. The best relationship a man can have after one with his spouse is one with a barber/hairstylist and as well his tailor/seamstress. I always treat both with the utmost respect and as friends, because they are my friends, building a great relationship with people who help you in life is key.

    I am a tailor, I own my own tailor shop and I got phone call everyday from customer, they asked for fast service and they didn't want to pay for fast service, tailoring is skill and experience not just anybody can pick up needle and thread and sew, it is artistic can you imagine tailor who can recut the suit jacket and suit pants not every tailor can do that, it takes special skill.

    As an Asian woman myself I will say the best tailors are either Thai or Vietnamese. When in doubt, go with Thai or Vietnamese. They learned tailoring the old fashioned way with years and years of apprenticeship in their own country before coming to America. Tailoring is no joke to them and you will get the highest quality.

    • @troy2286
      @troy2286 6 лет назад +2

      shelleyinthecity I can second this. I lived in Asia for a few years and Asian Tailors are the best. When I came back to the states I always looked for the Asian owned tailor's. I also had the same experience with Asian barbers haha

      Lol that would go down great in 2020 😂

      Must be why the cheapest clothes come from those countries. Prejudice doesn't equate skill.
      Plenty of middle eastern, European, and other good tailors all over the world.
      So your comment is really only based on 3 things. Personal bias, your personal experience, and the area you live in.
      Fact is, men are better tailors of men's suits than women. Like a barbershop

    When a service provider provides good service, good workmanship, good prices. THEN; he gets my respect, my continued business and referrals; not before.
    You want my business more than I need your services.
    I have a welding business and a commercial diving business. When I apply good business ethics and better than average work. I can nearly always count on loyalty. The customer is my bread and butter; he knows it and I know it. Anyone stalling a customer doesn't belong in business they belong in a union shop factory worker or a civil servant.

    You should always be respectful to the tailor, but the tailor should do the same. They shouldn't argue with you how your clothes should fit. Your clothes your money, its about you this time. I deal with this with my tailor. Get what you want or you will never be happy with it!

    Don't forget to have your items dry cleaned before having them altered, because, pardon me, the smell is really bad after we have them pressed, especially the pants that need crotch work. Just please do it..
    Also wanted to notice please please please bring your shirt, shoes and belt for a fitting as it really matters to determine the right sleeve length, pant length, how much to take in the waist etc

    My largest problem I have in my shop. I have potential clients call. One I got she wanted the sleeves let out of a jacket. She wanted to know if I could do that. I said I would have to see it because if there is not enough seam there I can't. She kept on that it was "blue jean" (denim) fabric can I do it. Again I have to see it. I lost the client and a contract with her company because I would not commit to if I could let it out or not without seeing it. My luck would have been I say yes and I have no seam allowance to let it out with. Another tried to get me to commit if I could repair holes in a leather jacket. He was not making much sense where the holes were. Again, I would have to see if before I coule tell him anything. It does not hurtmy feelings he did not show up, I felt like that was one I didn't want to touch. He also gave the impression he expected it to be fixed right then.

      They have convertible cuffs so you can wear as an Oxford or a cufflink shirt.
      They are a $69 dress shirt you can buy for $18.95 or $20.95 with a tie.
      They have tuxedo shirts as well.
      I recommend the 3xl.
      They come in solid colors and also solid with white cuffs and collars.

I mean, getting custom clothes is really a hustle, because it is costly and it is really hard to find a good tailor. and I am thinking about the worst case, will it take 3 years to be able to learn how to make a jacket , trouser and a shirt.
