I thought of this while rewatching epsiode 60 of DBZA when gohan said “down an arm and fighting an android why does this feel so familiar” or something among those lines. gohan died fighting the androids in trunks time and in our timeline gohan surpassed both 17 and 18 and cell and pulls through in the end..

I like to think that it wasn't solely 16's death that triggered Gohan's SSJ2 transformation. It was definitely the final catalyst, but his friends being beaten down around him had to have played a major part. Goku's SSJ1 as well; Freeza had killed Vegeta, tried to kill his son and his old rival, and THEN killed his best friend. I could see that being another time echo too

In DBZ Kai episode 98, future bulma said "I suppose there are some things time won't let you alter." She was right. Despite the efforts of future Trunks and the rest of Earth's defenders, many of the same things that happened in the original/history of Trunks timelines also ended up happening in the main timeline. Granted, the main timeline was able to have all the damages done and the people killed by the bad guys put right again, and as a result is far less bleak and depressing, but the fact remains that time refused to let our cast of characters (well all but three anyway) cheat death, even if their time in Other World did only end up being temporary.

The awesome foreshadowing, imagery, and symbolism is one of the main reasons I've always put the Cell saga above the rest of the series. People don't seem to look into the deeper and finer details these days such as Gohan losing his arm echoing how his future self lost an arm

I think the time echo could also be what lead to 16 dying, because 16 wasnt supposed to exist or at least be activated in the original time, so he dies. He might have been destroyed in the HOT timeline when 17 and 18 blew up the lab. Thats just my theory. An Android being killed by another android is definitely a time echo though.

It is all about balance.
Trunks shifted the balance artificially towards the Z warriors by saving goku and warning them while fate balanced back by sending Cell and allowing him to complete his evolution.

fun fact: Comparing trunks timeline you find an interesting tidbit. Chi Chi and Goku were destined to be together, Vegeta and Bulma were destined to be together, and trunks and mai were destined to be together. If trunks had traveled even further back to og dragon ball he could have changed those relationships too.

Great video, as usual! I think that another interesting time echo in Dragon Ball Z is the one that involves Majin Bu and Piccolo. The episode of Fat Bu rejecting his evil side that eventually becomes Slim Bu is identical to the one when the namekian who rejected his evil side to become Kami. After that, they unite again and become a new, more powerful being. Therefore, Super Bu = Piccolo+Kami.

Not exactly a time echo but I found the way Vegeta, Piccolo, KRILLIN etc hunted Anroids 19 and 20 to almost mirror the way C 17 & 18 hunted Gohan and Trunks in the future timeline.
Watching Gero slip and slide between rocks as Vegeta threatens to glass the area mirrors the encounter where Gohan lost his arm in the anime. "Let's take some potshots".
Having Gohan and Piccolo work together to nab Gero was again, very reminiscent of other timeline, as least anime wise.
Here we see such a role reversal it's almost jarring. Having the minor characters all act as bloodhounds for 2 weaklings that they can body if they work together? Gero and 19 are the inverse of Gohan and Trunks in a lot of ways in my opinion.
There are many other similarities, and I enjoyed seeing the villains become the hopeless cowards instead of innocents/minor characters at the mercy of the Z cast at the time, direct contrast from Future Trunks timeline in the anime and I love it.

In our timeline, the entire human population dies and the Earth gets blown up. In Super, this happens as well in the Future Trunks timeline, though with the entire universe (Zamasu).
In our timeline, Trunks and Mai have hunts of a potential romantic relationship, or at least romantic interest . The Future Trunks timeline also has this too.
Also, it is explained that the Pilaf gang made the wish to be children in the future timeline just like ours, though I wanna say these both would have happened pre-Androids so it would be the same events anyway?
If you wanna use movies, in our timeline (or at least the movie timeline I guess?????) Trunks got a sword (Wrath of the Dragon) and of course Future Trunks got one too.
Babidi, Buu, and Dabura got killed in both timelines, both by the hands of a Saiyan being assisted by the Supreme Kai.
In both timelines, Gohan died, and died specifically while wearing his father's gi (died from Androids in future, from Kid Buu blowing up Earth in our timeline).
In whatever timeline Whis sent Guture Trunks and Mai to, they met alternate versions of themselves. This also happened when they met our Trunks and Mai.
In both timelines the Androids kill Dr. Gero, defeat Vegeta, and fight Piccolo
Bulma dies in both timelines (Buu/Goku Black).
In both timelines Goku's DNA causes trouble (Cell/Goku Black).
In our timeline, Future Trunks timeline, and in Cell's timeline all 3, Android 17 is killed.
In all 3 timelines Gohan has students (Trunks/Goten/Video/I guess Pan)

Wow that's very interesting, I didn't realize it was so many time echoes especially the one with super buu killing all humans. Also some other time echoes I was aware of was in both timelines the Z Fighters fought Androids 17, 18 pre ROSAT time period and were defeated in both timelines, in the original timeline they were killed, in the Alternate/Present timeline they were just knocked out. And the other echoe is cell is defeated in both timelines by saiyan hybrids. This was a really interesting video.

Future Gohan has always been my most fav form of Gohan ever since I was introduced to him. It makes no sense to me that he wasn't the one to kill the androids after growing up.. AND Goku and definitely Piccolo, and prob the other z-fighters, and even King Kai himself would've at the very least advised Gohan using King Kai to communicate. And Korin, Popo and Roshi would've def thought of a bunch of ways to help train Gohan.. and SOMEONE would've mentioned the room of spirit and time (the hyperbolic time chamber) at some point, which would've made a huge difference as well. There are so many things that could've and should've been done.. also he should've never lost his arm lol, just my opinion.. or at least have Bulma or someone make a prosthetic AT LEAST lol. Sorry, Gohan is my most fav character in all of Dragon Ball, and I feel he always ends up getting the crap end of the stick every time lol

My favorite time echo is actually from the DBS manga (I know man! I know… I’m sorry) in one of my favorite DBS moments of all (anime, movies, & manga) in Chapter 16 when Future Trunks, Supreme Kai, & Kibito are fight Future Babidi & Dabura. The moment when Dabura pops up in Kibito’s face & annihilates him with that blast the same way he does to Present Kibito in DBZ (one of the most underrated moments of DBZ btw). Damn that was so sick & it was kind of a backwards time echo since it happened in the present first.

then in the main timeline u have gohan going ss2 from an android he never met before n all of sudden got what he needed to go ss2?! but it makes more
sense since goku was there training him in the rosat. still tho...

Bulma and Gohan's relationship from HOT and the Buu saga could be an echo, well he had no other option in the HOT since she was one of the few people left, but in that main timeline, there was no real reason for him to form a bond with her during the saiya man bit. Bulma and Goku had a relationship but Goku is dead at this point, and Gohan and Vegeta were not buddy buddy. The only straw that could be grasped would be he wanted to form a relationship with trunks because of future trunks, but that would have made Goten mad; him stealing his best friend and all lol.

You know this video makes me think about Dragonball Super right now as even though the same Future Trunks we followed in Z came back for help, time will find a way to ripple itself to have a Kai like Zamasu that the Z fighters must battle in the main timeline even though Beerus destroyed Zamasu. Or... Frieza is gonna serve this similar role, we don't know but time is still correcting itself after Future Trunks came back.

in my headcanon cell saga goes full circle. Trunks and Gohan always had what they needed to win Gohan's potential was enough since his childhood, alas Trunks and Gohan used Goku as a walking stick, so they invested on the time machine plan . And Trunks allured by Goku and Vegeta doesnt bond with gohan even though he is his 'adopted father' in the future. even in DBS full grown gohan doesnt spend much time with trunks unfortunately. Goku sees that gohan had what they needed and trains him and him using one had kamehameha like future gohan is just the ribbon above it all

Future Gohan had what present Gohan had in terms of potential but unfortunately Future Gohan didn't have the benefit of being trained and recognised by Goku in the hyperbolic time chamber. Years n years of fighting and being on the run didn't allow him to prosper the way the Nurtured Present Gohan did

@@reemobk6499 yes , but you see what holds gohan back is his mind state, by beliving Goku would come back from the past he never goes all out. even in the new timeline against cell with access to the super saiyajin 2 he still needed goku and 16 to put him in the path to victory he belives he isnt strong enough and thus doesnt goes all out. even without goku's pointers we must assume that his 7 years of training were probably enough.
ps.: gohan seems to have free access to his full potential when he is mad and has the right state of mind so if he only truly belived and got mad he probably could go all out as a kid and adult

ya plot convenience is why. ...same goes for future gohan. with his insane rage bursts he had since a kid from radditz. to nappa. to vegeta. to freeza. etc...
makes no sense he all of a sudden becames so weak when androids show up. n his dad gone n piccolo n others. u think all that sadness and anger would
push him over the edge!! he deff would have hit ss2 at some point. its ridiculous. oh well.
