    Ah, the what I'm missing episode, apricot episode. LOL! I wish I had a variety to choose from. I have Rothman. I've used it a few times now. I think the best drink I've made with it was a Tradewinds riff. Cheers!

    • @UnclePete
      @UnclePete  4 месяца назад +2

      It's a pretty solid one to be fair! And a tradewinds is a great drink!

    With Apricot Liqueur on my mind -- go figure -- last night I made a drink I enjoy, the Haystack. It includes bourbon, Suze, Apricot Liqueur, and lemon juice. (Recipe on Difford's). Cheers!

      Good stuff! I haven't had that one, but it sounds like a winner!

    I needed this a few weeks back. I was deciding between Giffard and Rothman & Winter. I went with the R&W. It was basically a coin flip. As far as what's next, I recently picked up a bottle of singani. Could be fun to hear about some of those and how they compare with the piscos you had on.

    • @UnclePete
      @UnclePete  4 месяца назад +2

      Oh Singani might be fun, might be an excuse to grab some more pisco as well! Thanks Ryan!

    The answer to all of your questions at the top is an emphatic YES! So far my favorite has been Giffard. I had been curious about The Bitter Truth as well. Wish I had access to the Stone Barn stuff!!

    • @UnclePete
      @UnclePete  4 месяца назад +3

      The Giffard is very good, rich and toothy, a different vibe from the R&W and the BT which are more flowery/perfume-y I think it might come down to what you are going for in a particular cocktail.

    Very interesting! I only recently started making drinks that include Apricot Liqueur, and had no preconceptions on how the liqueur or the drink(s) ought to taste. The first I bought, opened, and used is Gifard's Abricot du Rousillon. Thus far, I am very happy with it and the drinks I've made (again, I have no experience with or memory of these drinks before now). I also bought a bottle of the Rothman & Winter Orchard Apricot Liqueur, as it is easier to find; although, I ve not opened it yet. I enjoy this sort of episode and look forward to more comparison ones. Cheers!

    Man, I just love these comparison videos. I only have the Combier at home and I agree, the apricot really does not come through in a cocktail (which is interesting, because Combier's banana liqueur is fantastic). Once I finish this bottle I'm definitely upgrading to the Giffard.
    Thanks for the great work as usual, Uncle Pete! I am all for more liqueur comparison videos. Been curious about all the different creme de violettes lately.

    • @adamlindsley1143
      @adamlindsley1143 4 месяца назад +1

      Also, I'll bet that Stonebarn one would be great to add a real POP of apricot to a drink when it's called for. Maybe just a quarter ounce alongside another apricot liqueur.

      Glad you like them! I think an upgrade is in order. I have one Violette but I kind of hate it, and I am afraid to get another but its a possibility, if I can get a sample of Tempus fugit or something!

    Fabulous comparison Pete! I have only had Giffard apricot liqueur. I want to try some more for sure! The differences are really interesting! What a terrific idea for this video!! I filly understand why you didn't want to buy 5 bottles of apricot liqueur! Makes total sense! This cocktail looks amazing!! Cheers!! 🙂

    My favorite apricot liqueur heavy cocktail is the Charlie Chaplain:
    1oz Apricot liqueur
    1oz Sloe Gin (good one)
    1oz Lime juice
    So great and fruity, but you can't put your finger on what fruit exactly that it is.

    • @UnclePete

      I could have used this many years ago when I was on a sloe gin jag. I haven’t bought sloe gin since, but this sounds pretty tasty!

    Great vid Pete! One other bottle worth mentioning is Marie Brizard Apry (~$23) - in addition to infused apricots it also contains Gautier Cognac & rum from Martinique. It’s sweet, with the almond kick you describe, not super intense apricot flavor but good. I have it in addition to the R&W and give an edge to the latter, but mixed in a cocktail (or used in baking) both work fine!

    Thanks for this. I see apricot liqueur in tiki recipes sometimes and have been curious. I've never really made a tiki cocktail before, but I'm thinking this year, when it warms up, I'll break out the rum and paper umbrellas and probably hunt down some apricot liqueur, too. And now I know what to look for!

    The only other fancy apricot liqueur I'm aware of is Luxardo Apricot. Everything else is cheap "Apricot brandy" from the usual suspects: Bols, Hiram Walker, Leroux, etc.

      Luxardo make a lot of things that I forget about.

    I wonder if one couldn't just make an own Apricot Liquoer by using a Apricot Jam with some Rum or Vodca, missing out all the preservatives :o)

    Man, you literally beat me by 24 hours, I wanted to make some drinks of pre-prohibition yore that needed Apricot Brandy (I went with Massenez) I also made the Paradise last night (but the gin/oj one). From now on, when I decide to try something new, I'm checking in with you first... I didn't get the Giffard but now I wish I had...

      @@UnclePete I know, albeit, I am gutted I can't get that rum here in Ol' Blighty and need to fly home to get my Painkiller fix now 😀
      Massenez:
      I poured myself a little shot to give you a proper taster...
      Nose: the first thing you get is not Apricots but sweet? and a similar smell of cordial brandy stuff, if you look for it, you can get the apricot but you have to be looking
      Taste:
      Sweet, reminds me of AppleJack if you added 50/50 hard sugar syrup to it. That said, it is nice, it kind of reminds me of plum brandy (the type that Chinese restaurants hand out when handing you your bill in the EU). There is a hint of Apricot but it doesn't bowl you over. There is no real alcohol burn but it is ~25%? Overall, it is ok but it does leave me wondering about that Giffard as this might be too much like candy for my liking - something tells me this bottle will last a while 🙂
      Thanks again
