Not too long ago 99 Bananas was the only widely available option. It's very indicative of the late 90s early 2000s cocktail culture.

I’m here to defend the Tempus Fugit. Giffard is the clear winner, but I like the tobacco and leather notes I get out of Tempus Fugit. It definitely tastes darker, and I agree with Derek’s description of overripe banana flavor in it.
As I mentioned elsewhere in the thread, I keep on hand a banana rum blend with Jamaican rum, Smith & Cross, and either the Giffard or Tempus Fugit liqueurs - they’re different but both are great.

    • @makeanddrink
      @makeanddrink  4 месяца назад +1

Tempus Fugit is not bad. Especially in a cocktail. It's just one of those things where side by side I thought they'd each have their own uses an while I'm sure someone can make that argument, I just like everything about Giffard better.

I make my own banana liqueur and this is my favorite drink to use it in. I believe this is a drink served on Disney Cruise lines.
    Jamaican Rum Runner
    2oz Bailey's Irish Cream
    1.5oz Appleton Signature Rum
    1oz Creme de Banana
    1oz Cream of Coconut
    1oz Pineapple

I did this same test awhile ago, but my low-end was dekuyper. That one is also just banana runts with alcohol. For me, the ripeness of the tempest fugit made it the clear winner. Nothing wrong with Giffard, except I thought it was too pricey for my enjoyment of it vs. either of the others (I love banana runts).

Here in Brazil we have several banana cachaças, which we call “bananinha” (little banana). They are very sweet, so you can drink them without feeling too much alcohol, however, as they are cachaça-based, they contain 37-40% alcohol and get you drunk VERY, VERY quickly. They're usually just for shots, i've never seen anyone doing cocktails with it though.

  • @WhoKnowsNose

Giffard definitely has the most pure banana flavor.
Tempus Fugit is good, though to me me, it tastes more like walnuts in banana bread, than actual banana.

Banana justino (per your own video!) with Rum Bar Gold is the best banana liqueur I’ve had yet. I really like Banana Bunch for its own distinct, powerful, and IMO quite worthwhile use. In fact adding a splash or two of 99B to justino (ironically) corrects the balance quite ably.

I would say Tempus Fugit especially for Rum cocktails and tiki. Giffard is great but not a funky Banana bread flavor I like more. Giffard does have a reputation of making crappy products and I do not forgive them for that.
I actually do blend both Giffard and Tempus equal parts to get a blend of the clean and funky flavors

Crazy, the Giffard is 15 euro here in Germany which is the lowest range of prices for liquors. The tempus fugit is 30 euros. I bought the tempus a year ago because I thought the giffard can’t be good for that price point. I love the tempus but after comments here the Giffard seems better for cocktails. The Tempus pure has the flavor of baked banana with honey in Asian restaurants which I love, but I can’t notice much banana flavour in my cocktails with it

    • @makeanddrink

Not sure the full difference but Giffard does have another banana liqueur that comes in a different bottle. These ones with the white label and plain bottle are the more "premium" liqueurs.

Like you said responding to a comment "I just wouldn't drink Banana cocktails if I had to use Drillaud's.
