  • It's finally finished! The homemade bandsaw is powered by two Hilti 2.0 amp hour NiMh batteries. Total weight is 65 pounds!
    For those who are interested, I built this bandsaw with scrap laying around the house. The only thing I had to buy was the blade. The motor is a salvaged powerchair motor. I already owned the bearings, snap rings, wiring, switch, paint, literally everything except the blade! So the total cost for me to build this was only $17.00.

    Perfect size band saw and portable to also, to bad the market doesn't see this. I think this is enough inspiration for me to build one! Thanks!

    I had all but finished my design for a DIY bandsaw when my wife found a factory-built one for a price that was too good to refuse... DAMN!
    Yours is a lovely and really useful unit, the simplicity of your guides is so elegant it makes my eyes water! Thanks for the video; Liked & Subscribed. 👌👍

    Nice project and build, very impressive indeed. I have a couple of suggestions you could add to help out. First, you really need a blade guard above the upper blade guide to protect from accidently falling into the exposed blade someday. Only takes a split second to do major serious damage. Second, If you would like to get rid of the battery supply, buy an outside low voltage light transformer (or even two) and a suitable bridge rectifier and wire that up instead of the batteries. They sell them in various sizes. So pick one that has enough current to drive your motor. Then you won't have to worry about charging batteries. And thirdly, install a flexible light so you can bend it around to see a close cut you'll be making. Always can use additional light. But Thumbs Up for your great project.

      Hey thanks Gary for your kind words! It's funny you mentioned about the light transformers because that's actually what I ended up using. I work in landscaping, and we often come across those older 600 watt transformers being thrown out. I took apart one and slapped an overkill of a rectifier on it and boom, bandsaw power supply! I definitely will look into making a cover for that area you mentioned. I underestimated the blade slop travel. As a result, I made the cover a little shorter than what it should have been to fully cover that area.

    Very nice project! Why did you make the bandsaw that tall?

    • @Brute4rce1111
      @Brute4rce1111  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I wanted a bandsaw that was relatively compact in size, but could still rip large vertical stock when needed. It is a really great feature to have as I have cut chunky thick pieces of steel that would have otherwise not worked out on a similarly sized store-bought bandsaw.

    You made a good job of this build well done. However, I think you should have used some Lion batteries rather than the NiCads even if they are Hilti. The size of that battery compartment could have held enough to last some time between charges, if that motor is a 48V motor then something like a 10s 4P would give about a 42V 8Ah.

    • @Brute4rce1111
      @Brute4rce1111  4 года назад

      Yes I definitely will be upgrading the battery packs. They don't last as long as I would like them to. I'll get some good lithiums like you said

      The Nitrile gloves shown at 7:15 are OK; they will not snag on a blade. The other gloves he was wearing at 4:10 look like welding gloves; they would not be good, but he had removed them before he used the saw.
