Very mature Quincy. As a clinical therapist, the couples therapy I do with gay men can often be a challenge around this very issue. Mainly, it is an issue of communication.. I feel too often that people don't listen to understand, but rather listen to respond. People evolve and differences arise that make compatibility an issue. It sounds like you two tried to put in the work to find a resolution, but it doesn't always lead to a desired result for both partners. That you two came to a mutual understanding and desire to still be in each other's lives is great. I wish the best for both of you in whatever happens moving forward and appreciate the vulnerability and honesty in sharing a very private part of your life.

Thanks for sharing this news Quincy-as a long time viewer, it is important that you share changes like this for you and your viewers. For me it did not come as too much of a surprise because you are pretty authentic in your content and i sensed some distance between you two (i.e. your approaches to holiday decorating) which left me feeling a little off. Under the circumstances, I think you're both handling it wisely and responsibly. And no one knows what the future holds. I am 69 years old and have had my share of love and heartache. The thing is, we are all raised in different households by different parents and so go out into the world with different expectations about love and life and how we want to be treated...and how we treat others. In my experience, i recall how people made me feel, rather than it was that they said, that made my heart sing, or made my heart grow cold. There are so many different kinds of relationships. In my own life, i have had a long term relationship that was such a long struggle for me (despite it looking good on paper) and now i have a long term (14 year) long distance relationship which works (although i could not have predicted that for my younger self). It helps that i am retired now and easily able to travel. Relationships take work...but if it feels like you're pushing a boulder up a mountain...well, that's not ideal. That's enough for my relationship advice. I know good things happen to good people and i am confidant that the future is bright for you. You have a GREAT family and certainly know how to navigate this world to find your own happiness. Thanks for your candor AND your content!

I don’t have contact with anyone I used to date, once I’m done, especially if it ends badly, I’m out. I’ve tried to stay friends with someone I was in love with, it just didn’t work and we split. We’d hangout and grab dinners and it was nice but he started dating someone and I could not do that, be around him in a working relationship feeling like why couldn’t we do that and the guy was twenty years younger than me, so no. I’m sorry to see you guys split, at least you aren’t in that ugly place a lot of folks end up in, to better and brighter days, lean on friends and family to keep you occupied, get some work done on photos, refocus on the channel, stay busy. From experience, being "friends" will keep you stuck in their energy. Being "friends" is a way of easing the pain you both might be feeling. It lessens the blow of the reality of things. It leaves you emotionally attached to them and emotionally detached from yourself. Cool and cordial is just fine.
I am not surprised by this news. However, I could tell by their body language, there were problems within their relationship. The gay lifestyle is very difficult because many young attractive gay men aren't capable of lasting in a monogamous relationship. Both these young men are in their twenties and are most likely still experiencing new and different things in life. I came across a British gay series by accident over the weekend on Amazon Prime, Cucumber. It was rather depressing to watch older gay middle aged men acting immature and focusing on hooking up with young hot attractive gay men and they themselves weren't attractive. Hollywood has been criticized for its stereotypical portrayal of gay characters as over-sexed, immature, sleazy and shallow. I truly wish both these young men well and it seems, they both know what's best for them.

I am a demisexual, the build up to romance is a slow paced process because once I develop romantic feelings they tend to last and keep lasting, it’s like there’s no turning back. I’ve been in only one romantic relationship and it lasted eight and a half years and even then I was very much in-love with my partner. When we met i sensed that he was accustomed to men making themselves available to him. Tho I found him attractive to him I needed to develop emotions to even consider being romantic with him. I explained to him that I’d like to be his friend, he was very attracted to me and because I wasn’t willing to jump into bed with him I think he took it as a challenge. We took things slowly and he started to fall in-love with me, he showed a lot of patience as he understood the type of person I am, after several months we became an exclusive and committed couple, we moved in together and it was pure bliss. Fast forward, his feelings for me started to change, he was looking for something new, something different, something I didn’t have. In retrospect he grew bored with ‘married life’ and wanted to be a bachelor again. He was all I knew and I held onto him for dear life but I started to realize that he was already gone, I suspected someone was already in the picture and my fears we confirmed when I saw him and his friend in the city one day. So I told him he was free. I was still in-love with him and he was developing feelings for someone else so sharing a home became really awkward. The whole feel of the place changed and I didn’t want to be there anymore so I told him I was leaving. I told him that I wanted us to be friends but we needed to be apart or at least I did not want to be a spectator in his new romance, he told me he could never be just friends with me. I had no idea what that meant and I didn’t really care I was thinking about saving me and my peace of mind. I moved into my new place, I didn’t call him and he didn’t call me either. Yes, break ups are hard and mine was devastating. I guess we had too much history as a romantic couple that just being platonic friends didn’t seem necessary so we made a clean break from each other. There hasn’t been any romance in my life since then as I fear the pain of losing again, also I don’t meet guys that get that I don’t fall quickly and like to take things slow, real slow so my feelings can develop. What they don’t understand is what I am offering is a lifetime because I know my feelings, my affections can and will endure.
Quincy my his husband of over 20 years, left me last year, but you are right, I understand he needed to move on, but I also knew I care about him a lot and as gay men, I think we can be there for each other. We should be there for each other and as you said support each other. Divorce is harder, but it doesn’t have to mean the end, my other ex have been friends for 25 years, I couldn’t do life with him.

Thanks for sharing this news Quincy-as a long time viewer, it is important that you share changes like this for you and your viewers. For me it did not come as too much of a surprise because you are pretty authentic in your content and i sensed some distance between you two (i.e. your approaches to holiday decorating) which left me feeling a little off. Under the circumstances, I think you're both handling it wisely and responsibly. And no one knows what the future holds.
I am 69 years old and have had my share of love and heartache. The thing is, we are all raised in different households by different parents and so go out into the world with different expectations about love and life and how we want to be treated...and how we treat others. In my experience, i recall how people made me feel, rather than it was that they said, that made my heart sing, or made my heart grow cold.
There are so many different kinds of relationships. In my own life, i have had a long term relationship that was such a long struggle for me (despite it looking good on paper) and now i have a long term (14 year) long distance relationship which works (although i could not have predicted that for my younger self). It helps that i am retired now and easily able to travel.
Relationships take work...but if it feels like you're pushing a boulder up a mountain...well, that's not ideal.
That's enough for my relationship advice. I know good things happen to good people and i am confidant that the future is bright for you. You have a GREAT family and certainly know how to navigate this world to find your own happiness. Thanks for your candor AND your content!

I don’t have contact with anyone I used to date, once I’m done, especially if it ends badly, I’m out. I’ve tried to stay friends with someone I was in love with, it just didn’t work and we split. We’d hangout and grab dinners and it was nice but he started dating someone and I could not do that, be around him in a working relationship feeling like why couldn’t we do that and the guy was twenty years younger than me, so no. I’m sorry to see you guys split, at least you aren’t in that ugly place a lot of folks end up in, to better and brighter days, lean on friends and family to keep you occupied, get some work done on photos, refocus on the channel, stay busy. I am not surprised by this news. However, I could tell by their body language, there were problems within their relationship. The gay lifestyle is very difficult because many young attractive gay men aren't capable of lasting in a monogamous relationship. Both these young men are in their twenties and are most likely still experiencing new and different things in life. I came across a British gay series by accident over the weekend on Amazon Prime, Cucumber. It was rather depressing to watch older gay middle aged men acting immature and focusing on hooking up with young hot attractive gay men and they themselves weren't attractive. Hollywood has been criticized for its stereotypical portrayal of gay characters as over-sexed, immature, sleazy and shallow. I truly wish both these young men well and it seems, they both know what's best for them.

I am a demisexual, the build up to romance is a slow paced process because once I develop romantic feelings they tend to last and keep lasting, it’s like there’s no turning back.
I’ve been in only one romantic relationship and it lasted eight and a half years and even then I was very much in-love with my partner.
When we met i sensed that he was accustomed to men making themselves available to him. Tho I found him attractive to him I needed to develop emotions to even consider being romantic with him.
I explained to him that I’d like to be his friend, he was very attracted to me and because I wasn’t willing to jump into bed with him I think he took it as a challenge. We took things slowly and he started to fall in-love with me, he showed a lot of patience as he understood the type of person I am, after several months we became an exclusive and committed couple, we moved in together and it was pure bliss.
Fast forward, his feelings for me started to change, he was looking for something new, something different, something I didn’t have.
In retrospect he grew bored with ‘married life’ and wanted to be a bachelor again. He was all I knew and I held onto him for dear life but I started to realize that he was already gone, I suspected someone was already in the picture and my fears we confirmed when I saw him and his friend in the city one day.
So I told him he was free. I was still in-love with him and he was developing feelings for someone else so sharing a home became really awkward. The whole feel of the place changed and I didn’t want to be there anymore so I told him I was leaving.
I told him that I wanted us to be friends but we needed to be apart or at least I did not want to be a spectator in his new romance, he told me he could never be just friends with me. I had no idea what that meant and I didn’t really care I was thinking about saving me and my peace of mind.
I moved into my new place, I didn’t call him and he didn’t call me either. Yes, break ups are hard and mine was devastating. I guess we had too much history as a romantic couple that just being platonic friends didn’t seem necessary so we made a clean break from each other.
There hasn’t been any romance in my life since then as I fear the pain of losing again, also I don’t meet guys that get that I don’t fall quickly and like to take things slow, real slow so my feelings can develop. What they don’t understand is what I am offering is a lifetime because I know my feelings, my affections can and will endure.

Quincy my his husband of over 20 years, left me last year, but you are right, I understand he needed to move on, but I also knew I care about him a lot and as gay men, I think we can be there for each other. We should be there for each other and as you said support each other. Divorce is harder, but it doesn’t have to mean the end, my other ex have been friends for 25 years, I couldn’t do life with him.
