    Thanks for the video! I love Montbell. They are the next best thing to a reputable custom cottage gear vendor and the best if one can not wait for lead times. My Montbell Travel Umbrella lasted me the whole Camino Norte / Primitivo which had wind - no problem. And it's so light. I am still angry with myself that I lost it on the Tour du Mont Blanc because I put it into the bottom pocket of my backpack instead of the front pocket. Will reorder as soon as they restock on the Japanese site.

      Hi Spinewalker... thanks for your comment. Great to hear that your Travel umbrella lasted so long, I have used mine for 6 month and because its so small I guess there's a risk for me to forget it somewhere ha ha - on Montbells webside they are introducing new models in polyester instead of nylon and the handle and ribs are in carbon... but they are not lighter, maybe even stronger.
      Are you shopping in EU or US ? 🇯🇵

    • @spinewalker_
      @spinewalker_ Год назад +1

      @@hanskirk-hiking9697 Oh interesting about the polyester switch, I had not seen that. It probably will hold less water and sag less - not that these are a big issue with the umbrellas as is. Polyester is a little less strong but more UV resistant which should equalise itself.
      I am based in Switzerland but I shop on the Montbell Japan website since the Yen is that cheap and they ship to Europe. And since I have to replace my Versalite jacket it will definitely be worth it. I got a Plasma 1000 Alpine Parka for half price last year.

    Great video again Hans. Well done. My own folding Montbell umbrellas are still going strong. I just got mine a few days ago and today it had its first real world usage.
    It is so incredibly light and small. You really don't notice it, so you can always have it with you. My previous light umbrella is almost 200 grams, more than double than the montbell.
    The mechanism takes a bit to getting used to, though. It is a bit fiddly.

    I am a Montbell fan as well. I have the traveller 60 umbrella, which I may attach to my light Mammut backpack without any further aids and walk hands-free. I own also a very light Montbell rain jacket and corresponding trousers. Montbell's prices are clearly better than the rest in this league. @@hanskirk-hiking9697 Hi Hans. If I am correct there are two Montbell shops in the US and one in Switzerland, and maybe some in Japan. Anyhow, it is an excellent brand, and I hope that you may encounter its origins there. Hello. I know it's not the model for the sun, but since it's the lightest (86g), could it work for long walks in the desert? Do you think the fabric will provide enough shade?

    The problem with umbrellas that pack down that small is that the arms need to bend, and that means they'll easily break in a tough wind. This is why I like the longer umbrellas that don't bend; I found they are much more durable. The Six Moon Designs carbon umbrella is only 1 oz heavier.

    • @hanskirk-hiking9697
      @hanskirk-hiking9697  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Andy I guess you have a good point.
      I bought my umbrellas before a semi long hike in Norway 🇳🇴 were I know that rain would be a problem, it’s my first umbrella purchase. If you don’t take care of Montbells umbrellas ☂️ you can easily break them, but with the right care you have a lightweight and small umbrella to your disposal, and when you are exposed to periods with a lot of rain a umbrella will always be an advantage 🙂
