I have a Martin DX1R I bought in 2004. It’s made in the USA, but looks practically identical to the one you have. Do you ever clean it? The neck on mine is kinda dark like yours, which I assume is skin oils.
Got a like new mint Yamaha LS6 on the bay for $250 all in price. Real solid spruce top, real ebony fingerboard and bridge (rosewood fb and bridge on newer models), real abalone sound hole inlay, real rosewood ply back and sides and real mahogany/rosewood 3 ply neck. Plays great, feels great, looks and sounds fantastic. That plastic mim Martin goes for $599. It's your call.
That's a cheap shot. The 12 string x..is fantastic. Played many live performances with All Floyd and studio. Anything but plastic matey. The Yamaha is great also. I have one.
The stratbond is actually Birch laminate. I forget what type of birch but I have it on my Dx1 one I've had for 20 years it's amazing stuff. The sides and back has some type of synthetic veneer they call it HPL. I forget what type of wood is underneath it. It's like formica. Your fingerboard does not look like black Richlite to me at all man lmao. that's probably one of the few models that has katalox a Mexican Hardwood for the fretboard and Bridge. I think that signals the pride the Mexicans have making this model. on the website th only current model to have that wood is the dx2e. To me this also signals they're following martins tradition and secret providing one of the best guitars at the lowest price for everyone including the poor.
I have 2 of these guitars and one has a brownish fretboard and bridge of whatever and the other has the black richlite. I think Martin likes to use the black richlite because it looks like ebony but is a lot cheaper.
@randyo573 they only use katalox wood on the X2 series of guitars. They can vary greatly in color though. Richlite is actually much more expensive than ebony. It also has no imperfections and is more resistant to environment and damage.
HPL just stands for high pressure laminate, it's still wood but being laminated is means it is ridiculous strong and resistant to warping but some might argue that the sound of the guitar will be less open and sound "stiffer"... your mileage may vary. Of course a 8K Martin will sound better, but does it sound 10 times better ... probably not.
I'm 73 and began playing when I was 15. Over those 58 years I have played a whole bunch of guitars. I mean, a lot. Some of those guitars were high-end boutique guitars. Until a couple years ago, Martin guitars were out of my price range so I would say things just like you said. Last year I managed to buy a used 1995 Martin J-40. (He mentions the J-40 at 1:48) To answer your question, "Does it sound 10 times better?" It definitely sounds 10 times better. It has all the sustain, chime, tones and overtones of a Steinway Concert Grand Piano. Speaking of which, a piano has 88 keys while the acoustic guitar typically has 120 notes (if you don't count bending). So the guitar has 32 more notes available than a full grand piano.
What I like about those hpl is they got more bass maybe doesn't resonate as much as a Rosewood but that thing punches boy way over its weight class lol. Way more volume too. The HPL top sounds very muffled to me but hpl sides and back with a spruce stop is a golden combination.
"Strato" means layered. "Bond" means glued. So "Stratobond" means glued layers. That is probably one of the strongest wood necks made. My son has one of those guitars. He had a complete set up done for almost as much as the cost of the guitar but now it plays like butter and sounds like a Martin while still costing a whole lot less than USA built.
@@everysingleguitars My son had the set up done. He had it plecked with new bone nut and saddle. Overkill for a plywood guitar but the results were worth it.
@@everysingleguitarsthey charge like $100 an hour. I kind of laugh when people say that these guitars are good for beginners learning to take care of a guitar. They got it all wrong it the guitar for the poor people who can't afford to take care of a f****** guitar. I've had a dx1 for 20 years never needed anything done to it. Ask someone who owns a d28 how many times they've been at the shop. Lol But if you can afford it D-28 you could afford the shop upkeep on it lol.
How would you compare it to the Ibanez acoustic, I ended up getting the Martin special x series style 000 but I really liked the Ibanez as well when I tried it. I’m having some second thoughts because I kinda want an acoustic that’s made of wood.
@@everysingleguitars Possibly, but logic should tell us that because of the huge price difference, corners have been cut somewhere. As we all know, Mexican labor costs are cheaper, but that in itself is not a crime since they are still made to Martin's quality standards (at least theoretically). Also, the absence of decorative touches lowers production costs. That leaves us with material issues. HPL is the same material in kitchen countertops....layers of highly compressed sawdust, paper, and glue. It is glorified chipboard. Cabinet makers and kitchen renovators will tell you to NEVER allow moisture to get into the corner joints of kitchen countertops. This forces the question about the X series guitars warping over time, rendering them unplayable. QUESTIONS : Since you've had hands-on experience playing them, can you tell us if the 000 "X" version NECK in the video has the exact same feel and dimensions as their "28" counterpart ? In a blindfold test would they feel the same ? Also, does the neck have a truss rod ? Or did Martin cut costs there too ? Thanks.
@@touranzohdy2861 Nah the neck on the 28 definitely feels alot different from this Mexico X-Series.. The neck shape may be similar but the wood feel behind your hands feels completely different.. nah this model has a truss rod lol
Nope it’s a hard press laminate and will last probably forever(back and sides). Even when you spill beer on it. And now you get a mahogany neck not the layered wood. Just bought one yesterday for $700 and returning my $700 Breedlove. It just plays better.

Sounds great but I don't think they're built to last, They'll never reach vintage status. You can't beat the longevity of real wood.
Lol they're build to last! Real wood needs more maintenance than this guitar.
Might last longer than real wood…
