Eddie Kendricks was also a member of the Temptations. He also had a few solo hits after leaving the group. You might try KEEP ON TRUCKIN', and BOOGIE DOWN for more of those mid-7o's disco vibes. And as long as you walking that path can we please finally bring in the Big Maestro, Barry White. His deep voice let all the women know what was coming, how it was coming, and when it was coming. For starters,
NEVER, NEVER, GONNA GIVE YOU UP,
YOU'RE THE FIRST, THE LAST, MY EVERYTHING,
IT'S ECSTACY, WHEN YOU LAY DOWN NEXT TO ME &
one his last hits from the 9o's,
    PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH.
Better be careful Amber. You might need to hose Jay down with some cold water after these songs of love. Or maybe it's the other way around. You two are a great couple as well as great people. God Bless you and your family. Enjoy.

He is definitely Motown, but during the the time when disco was just starting and the songs had a really good vibe for dancing. A lot of Motown singers did really great disco. Remember that the performers back then did everything. 60,s and 70's Motown is one of the very best genres of music ever made. Soul Train what can I say, I never missed it on Saturdays. I watched it not only for the music but to learn the latest dance moves.

David Ruffin had one of the best voices in music, period.
I was born in 66, grew up outside of Detroit. So I heard every motown song. Over and over. My mother was a huge oldies fan and a country fan. I never got into the country music but I loved the classic rock and the motown sound. My favorite band of all time is Led Zeppelin and I would definitely rank David Ruffin in the top 5 singers that I've ever heard sing a song. Unfortunately, whether it was the way Berry ran motown or whether it was the culture inside of the temptations themselves, but David's ego got the best of him (he felt the band should be named David Ruffin and The Temptations, a la Diana Ross and The Supremes) and he didn't feel he was getting the recognition he deserved and unfortunately decided it was better to go his own way and have a solo career, With which he had moderate success. Unfortunately drugs ultimately got ahold of him and he died in I think it was 1991. 1. Such a loss to the music world.

"Sunshineeee blue skies....please go away...my girl has found another and gone away..." David Ruffin was the lead for THE TEMPTATIONS when they rocketed to stardom, and they had some amazing hits like "i wish it would rain", "Ain't too proud to bed', "it's growing", "My girl", "the way you do the things you do" etc... David Ruffin run afoul of the group and was cast out and as a solo artist he went all in to get back on the scene as a solo artist with fantastic songs like "My whole world ended" and "A statue made of stone". He was truly a talented performer and there is some great performances of him on youtube. RIP David......we all miss you!

I’m glad so many young people are reacting to past music eras where everyone had to be able to sing to be able to be in the biz , no exceptions you we not going to be offered a record deal or have success if you couldn’t sing. And even rockers, funksters and disco singers still had to be able to really sing. That high note that David Ruffin does is amazing but it stands as standard level of talent that was showcased back then, that’s why there are so many artists from the past that are legends for just their singing voices when so many artist from the last twenty years are known for other talents other than just singing. It doesn’t take anything away from old or new artists, it’s just the standard level of talent expected by producers , songwriters, musicians , and the whole entertainment business in general. Also because they wrote and produced songs with feeling( like Walk Away From Love) for real singers who had the vocal range to bring what they wanted to convey in a song.

I liked his work with the Temptations, but those songs were like bubble gum soul compared to the songs on his solo albums. Just to name a couple of my favorites, listen to "Dinah" and "Off and On." I was born in 1960 so this was totally my era and the best music I've ever experienced, I feel bad for people who never got to enjoy and DANCE like we did. I always talk about being in my teens, get up take a shower, do my big hair, put on my clogs, tube top, bell bottom jeans and of course my blue eye shadow 😅😅😅 I would get my portable 8 tracks and walk in town all day, everyone hung out in town, we had a pool hall, arcade, movie theater, a pool, and a restaurant called The Speak Easy and they would put big speakers in the windows and play this music on high. There were no fights we all hung out and had fun. I know it sounds like a movie but I grew up in a small town called Holly Michigan and that's absolutely how it was, I still live here and boy do I miss those days, my husband and I always say there will never be another 70's. Just to let you know Motown are still touring, my husband and I went to see The Four Tops with The Spinners 2 yrs ago and it was like stepping back to my childhood because they sound exactly the same

When I was a kid, my dad watched Soul Train every week and we watched it with him, and we had a huge collection of Motown records that we would play on the record player in the days before we had cable or VCRs. I grew up with a deep appreciation of really good music because I had young parents who grew up in the 60s and 70s and loved great music of several different genres. And I've seen the Temptations in concert a couple of times, but sadly I never got to see them with David Ruffin singing lead. He died before I saw them in concert for the first time. Such great, classic music came out of the Motown era, and David Ruffin was one of the greatest.
