I love me some bobby womack. "A woman's gotta have it, down a 110 st, that's the way I feel about cha, California dreaming" are just some songs to start off with
Man, this hits hard! Literally my favorite song as a young boy growing up! Family members would be concerned for me watching me listen to it considering how emotionally impacted I'd appear to be when hearing it. My mother never lets me forget it either. Lol Thanks for this reaction guys! RIP to Bobby, a legend!
My mom and all of my aunts used to love this song Bobby Womack is a cold dude, you guys are the best, incredible heart renching song. God bless you and your family
How did you manage that! In UK Discos in the 1970s and even early 1980s this was a standard slow dance track. In the clubs I worked and went to this was played every night at least once. Flip side of "I Can Understand It".
Song was on 24/7 in Chicago Bobby was a superstar … albeit only played on VON radio. I grew up in englewood on south side . I play him every week til this day
Jay & Amber, Bobby Womack certainly does put the feels and emotions in his songs. And Jay, I can see you enjoying this track with a drink and cigar😊 Other songs by him you'll love are If You Think You're Lonely Now, That's the Way I Feel About 'Cha, I Wish He Didn't Trust Me So Much, Across 110th Street, and Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out. Enjoying this journey with you guys. Brings back great memories.
Now I'm going on FB to tell my friend that you did a reaction to his late uncle again. He got a kick out of the first time I shared your reaction. We taught together for many years and as a good-bye gift he gave me recordings of Womack brothers songs. Bobby got his start with his brothers. Still precious to me.
My Brother and I swore that he was saying, "Harry Hippie lies in sleeping shed' Now family members can't help but say it too and laugh😂 I loss my Brother a year ago this Month so this is really touching my heart. Oh ...the memories. ❤
More Al Green please - let’s stay together, you ought to be with me, call me, sha-la-la, tired of being alone, I’m still in love with you, here I am (come and take me), look what you done for me, love is a beautiful thing, for the good times, funny how time slips away (ray price) also with lyle Lovett, put a little love in your heart with annie lennox
One of my favorite songs from 1972 and that’s saying something. Continue to R.I.P to the Poet Mr Bobby Womack❤️. Here’s a couple of suggestions for Bobby Womack guys That's The Way I Feel About Cha (1971) Communication (1971) I Can’t Understand It (1972) A Women's Gotta Have It (1972) Across 110th Street (1972) I’m Through Trying To Prove My Love To You (1973) Facts Of Life (He’ll Be There When The Sun Rises Down 1973) If You Can't Give Her Love Give Her Up (1973) Lookin For A Love (1974) You're Welcome Stop On By (1974) Daylight (1976) Thanks as always Jay and Amber 😊
Gotta do Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street" and his version of the 80's song "Living In A Box." Heck, do the original song "Living In A Box" by Living In A Box! 😂😂
Written by unsung, legendary blue-eyed soul man Jim Ford. Sly Stone once called Jim "the baddest white man on the planet." He should have been a massive, massive star. Try reacting to "I'm Gonna Make Her Love Me" or "It's My Life." The man lived with Bobbie Gentry before she became a star and it reflected badly on him that he tried to take partial credit for the song, "Ode to Billie Joe." But, he really was a great singer-songwriter in his own right. But drugs pretty much destroyed him.
Drugs did not "destroy" Bobby Womack. That is a very false narrative. Bobby recorded, and toured right up until the time he became too sick to do so. He died at home, at the age of 70 suffering from cancer...diabeties...Alzheimer's, as well as other non-drug related health issues. He stopped using drugs in the late eighties. He was very candid about his heavy drug use in the 60's, 70's and wrote about it in his memoir. He had a long, and very successful career before....and after his drug use stopped.
It's said, that Bobby wrote this song about his brother that died......This was one of my mother's favorite songs, and even though heard this song countless times. I now know what the lyrics are saying regarding trying to help someone who doesn't want to be helped.......Knowing when to let go........
Yes, thanks for this. More men of soul to listen to from the 70s era - George mccrae - rock your baby; Rockie robbins - you and me (this one is from 1980); Major Harris - Love won’t let me wait; William bell - tryin’ to love two; Tyrone davis - turning point; Joe simon - drowning in the sea of love; Lou rawls - natural man.
Was messing with Sam Cookes wife, when he died wore his suit and drove his car to the funeral. Married Sam Cookes wife then cheated on her with Cookes daughter. LOL Bobby has a history.
Hi Jay and Amber! I know you guys like to jump back to the late 60's/early 70's on occasion. Thought I'd throw in a request for Canadian singer-songwriter R. Dean Taylor from 1970 "Indiana Wants Me". It's a story song, but a sad, tragic one. Absolutely a retro pop classic. R. Dean passed away in 2022...R.I.P
Jim Ford wrote this song in tribute to Bobby Womack's brother Harry Womack, who died tragically during a domestic violence incident. Bobby Womack..."Trying Not To Break Down". Bobby Womack & Patti Labelle duets..."Love Has Finally Come At Last", and "Looking For the Strength To Say Goodbye". They will blow your mind.
They can do a month straight of Bobby Womack alone. The man had a interesting life. There should be a movie about him and his relationship with Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers and how the relationship he had with Sam's wife and daughter Linda.
Great reactions ❤ "I wish he didn't trust me so much" should be your next Bobby Womack song, would love to see the Rob Squads reaction to this one for sure
God I could never put into words with this song meant to me. Play rock and roll music but my roots go all the way back to this type of stuff the melody is what matters rock and roll is rock and roll because of melodies like this
Cool song. Sort of the flipside to another hit "He aint heavy he's my brother." by The Hollies. Sometimes a drowning man will take you under with him. Gotta know when to let go and save yourself so you are around to help someone else another day.
Bobby’s group the Valentinos had “It’s all over now” going up the charts when Sam Cooke advised him to give song to Rolling Stones. Check out Valentinos w Bobby Womack singing “It’s all over now”. ruclips.net/video/J6RpPLb1vMc/видео.htmlsi=ozLnB-dZlR1VVDM3
Background and Inspiration: The song was loosely based on Bobby’s brother’s carefree behavior. It was originally recorded as a funny tribute to his brother, bass guitarist Harry Womack. Harry lived a carefree life and often expressed a desire to live on an Indian reservation. The song playfully captured this aspect of his personality. Tragically, Harry Womack was killed by his girlfriend during a fight in 1974. The song’s tone shifted from lighthearted to poignant after this devastating event.
One of my all-time favorite lines in a song come from this song..." Tell me where will you be going, when ol' man winter gets his horn and starts blowing ".
Aww... we're reliving (for many of us, esp. the older folks) vicariously through you, a past moment in our lives through music, as it has always been done. WE thank YOU both!!! We love you ❤❤❤
A Woman's Gotta Have It, Lookin For A Love, Checkin Out, and Love Has Finally Come At Last (a duet with Patti LaBelle) are some of my favorite songs from Bobby. He also was one of greatest guitarists of all time, playing for many artists. He also wrote many songs for other artists like I'm In Love by Wilson Pickett and It's All Over Now by the Rolling Stones. A truly legendary artist.
Across 110th Street is the song of his I find myself coming back to the most. He’s got a lot of good songs. Womack wrote The Rolling Stones’ first #1 hit, It’s all Over Now.
Bobby comes from a talented family. He and his older brothers formed a group called the Womack Brothers when Bobby was only 10 years old that featured his mother on organ and his father on guitar., who performed mostly gospel songs. Bobby married Sam Cooke's widow only three months after his murder. His youngest brother Cecil married Sam Cooke's daughter and sang as a duet Womack and Womack. Cecil co-wrote the song T.K.O. in which Teddy Pendergrass turned into a number 2 hit on the Billboard R&B charts, renamed Love T.K.O.. You should give a listen to Womack and Womack. T.K.O. and Starbright are a couple of my favorites.
Glad you touched music royalty again...song about Bobby's brother. What a thrill for you discovering this amazing singer/songwriter. Made that same journey myself 52 years ago. You say more "womagic" suggestions try I'm Through Trying To Prove My Love To You...and Superstar. Love from the UK.
Bobby was known as "The Poet" for his heart-felt, soul rending, songwriting. One of my all-time favorite artists! Check out "A Woman's Got To Have It" Rob will definitely love the walking bass line in this one!!
One of the great soul voices and soul songwriters of the '70s and '80s. A few other good Womack tunes to check out include: Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out; That's the Way I Feel 'Bout Cha; A Woman's Gotta Have It; Across 110th Street; and How I Miss You Baby.
Oh he was very well known back in the days and this was definitely one of his great hits. I was 13 listening or exposed to music like this and remember this, just turned 64. Those were the best time in music!!
I thought I read once this song was inspired by Womack’s brother. The brother was a loafer the family tried helping him but just couldn’t bring old Harry around.

Bobby released a country album in the 1970s. But other than Charley Pride (& Ray Charles to a lesser extent), until recent years other Black singers had a hard time breaking into country music. Not a singer, but harmonica player DeFord Bailey did perform at the Opry early on starting in the 1920s. Bailey didn't make that many recordings though.
RICK JAMES ~ " FIRE IT UP " ,,, and " LOVE GUN " ,,, plus this 3rd song " MARY JANE " these three songs equals triple 🔥🔥 🔥 FIRE!!! it's FUNK & SOUL with these 3 super fire Jams from the 1970s Rick and the Band created some of the finest most creative and memorable music that stands the test of time for decades to come 🎸
Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline was on the B side of this one back in the day. We called that a two-fer back then. Bobby did a good version of Diamond’s classic too!
Silver Convention ~ " Dancing In The Isle " , Up-Tempo/Funk & Soulful vocals with some amazing bass and super cool violins & funky groovy drum beat plus those hi hats that add a bit of coolness to this JAM you guys definitely should check this one out too, its such a Groove
He was the brother in law from Linda Womack(Sam Cooks daughter). The brother from Cecil Womack. Cecil and Linda formed the band Womack & Womack. Bobby and Cecil both past away
Bobby Womack is definitely a rabbit hole you should go down 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
