Finally, the video I've been waiting for; by one of the most trusted people on RUclips. My rear view mirror fell off so many times I just gave up and only glue it on before car inspections are due. Wish me luck!
I have worked in a glass shop for 40 years. The Loctite 312 is all we ever used, works pretty good if you follow the instructions including holding pressure on the button for 1 minute while it sets. I'm sure the uv stuff is good too.
Excellent vid! A simple way to get out of a sticky situation, wait no... into a sticky situation? Either way I was glued to the screen. I know I know, "enough adhesive puns It's starting to get tacky." ; )
Just ordered the glue! Exact same thing just happened a few days ago. I bought the permatex, and it fell off when I tried putting the mirror back on. I put my button on a belt sander to remove the glue, and ended up eating to much of the button. ordered a new button and Im waiting on the glue to come in.
Both times this has happened to me, I glued it on about 2" higher. I'm 6'3" and I have a taller torso than normal, so I sit pretty high. I have to constantly duck under the rear view to see traffic lights, signs, etc.
I've never had it happen on any of my fords but i did on my chevys.bought a new caprice in 77 and the mirror came off 3 weeks later i only touched it once...oops ..i let the dealer fix it ..after all it was under warranty...lol...good to see you again good repair on the mirror..see you on the next on ...Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great informative video! Thankfully I haven't had any buttons come off the glass yet. But if I did I probably would've just grabbed the first product I saw at the auto parts store. Now I know👍
You've had better luck than me. I can get it to work maybe one in three times. I don't know if that stuff has a shelf life and the stuff I bought sometimes has been old?
Guess I got lucky, or they made it better years ago. I think it was permatex ? Would have been about 30 years ago ? Lasted good for as long as I owned it after that, about 5 years.
Whilr I've had mostly success with the parts store mirror adhesives so far I'm going to get some of this stuff and keep it handy.. Prolly work to attach things to shower tiles or to house windows or any super slick surface..
Took 3 tries on with the auto parts store stuff on my 78. But the last one worked and the mirror has been on for over 10 years. It does work, just not all the time. I mentioned years ago to a glass guy replacing my windshield and he told me about these products. Said he fixed buttons all the time after people tried the cheap stuff.
With all the old cars I had & have (LOL) this only happened to me once. I cannot remember what I used but it did work. Hey Moe I have not seen you in awhile & noticed that my $ub is not on to your channel. Just corrected that. Hope all is well. 👍 4Z2 Stay safe, Joe Z
I've purchased the Loctite version and while it's very good, I was disappointed that the product showed up in a bottle that was only have full. I like your oil change sticker collection. :)
I left a sticker up because it has tire info on it. And them I just stuck another and another. It drives some people bat crazy to see. I get a kick out of that.
@@sixtyfiveford I'm relieved you mentioned that you left the sticker because it had tire info. There's not enough stickers up there for 327,000 miles of oil changes unless you're using some kind of magic oil. lol
I thought you were going to show how to drill a hole through the whole thing and run a bolt through it. Nothing works on the Taco because it has the heavy 2 map light mirror BUT i'll try this. Thanks pal and GBWYall!
I've repaired a few with the cheap kits, but like most people it's a 50% or less success rate. There's a reason it generally only gets a 2-3 star review rating. The button in my 78 Ford Truck was done 10 years ago and it's still holding. It took 3 kits and it finally took. Nothing was done different any of the times. The Loctite 312 and KlingOn is what the pro shops use and works every-time. I've never had one fail with those.
Once my youngest tried to use my Ranger mirror as a handle to get out of the booster seat. Etched both surfaces with a little sanding, and CA glued it. Two weeks later, she done it again.

@@sixtyfiveford Thanks for getting back to me. Would you tell the brand and where you bought yours? I've looked at so many I'm almost blind LOL. there's a lot out there.
If it's a UV glue, I doubt it would work with newer windshields with a "blacked out" portion near the mirors. (Cuz sunlight will never see it directly.)
I had a different experience with one of the Autozone kits, I put it on with everything cleaned well and accidentally knocked if off the next year while putting on a sweatshirt and it took a chip out of the glass with it.
It's just hit and miss for me. Took 3 tries on with the auto parts store stuff on my 78. But the last one worked and the mirror has been on for over 10 years.
I got something from the auto parts store that worked fine... don't recall what brand or anything now, but the mirror I fixed with it has been up for like 3 years now. Oddest thing though when I was getting ready to do it, I lost the damn button so I went to the junk yard, rather than try to find the right button for my vehicle, I just got a mirror with a button..oddly it was quite easy to get off the car it was in. factory glue isn't all that great.
@@sixtyfiveford this stuff I used worked first try. I took a piece of tape and taped the button in place until it cured good. it wasn't that really quick stuff.
l had a 64 c10 that l added a mirror from a newer car with map lights l scuff a small spot on the windshield cleaned it with alcohol let it sit for a hour put it back on still on 3 years late!!
$24.01 w/tax to NC and spose to be here July 1... Now how about building a portable fuel system. I've got a bunch on old cars and trucks that sit for months/years, all with bad fuel pumps thanks to ethanol, so as a temporary (to move them around) fix, I've been thinking of rigging up an external fuel system either by adding a fuel pump and regulator to a gas can, or doing something simpler like rigging up a venturi that I can place over the intake throttle/carb to feed the engine fuel.
Had a pickup about 1980. One week after I made my final payment I got out of the truck and shut the the door. The rear view mirror fell off. Never used it so I throw it under the seat and never gave it a second thought.
Thank you Mo! Great to see ya. That's excellent. I was thinking about putting warning signs on the outside of my windshield. I bet that stuff would work. HEY! WARNING! YOU MOUTHY SELF IMPORTANT PUNK! It's getting up there. I think any car can do this, people just don't want to spend money to repair old stuff. Simpler to buy a new car. I can't blame them, because if I didn't fix everything myself I can't imagine paying shop rates.

Watching the video from Kenya, Africa. Thanks and happy new year!

The black windshield glue sealer also does a damn good job, 1 drop and it will never move again.

A reliable fix :-D, it sort of reminds me of the original superglue when it first came out.
But without the vapour that makes a white mess.
Old super glue worked so much better than the stuff they have these days.

I used epoxy once after the cheap $10 kit failed a few months later. Car was sold almost a year later, atleast it lasted a year.
Can't beat that.
Now I am wondering what else I can use that glue on
It's like a "super" super glue. Any glass, steel, ceramic etc. Glue a quarter in the urinal and think of how many people try to grab it.
If it's a UV glue, I doubt it would work with newer windshields with a "blacked out" portion near the mirors. (Cuz sunlight will never see it directly.)
I was mislead by reading a review someone wrote. It's not UV activated.
It appears Equalizer no longer sells their product. They have the "industrial size" LocTite kit listed there instead.
