1st video of DOZENS that actually shows you in detail what you are trying to do, shows actual spring clips, prying slightly downward on the LOWER INNER LIP, while PUSHING it off of the anchor. Others show prying down HARD without SLIDING it off. THAT IS WRONG. This is RIGHT. Prying down HARD without SLIDING can lead to dislodged anchor and/or broken windshield. The LOWER INNER LIP is what springs back into place when a new mirror is slid on. This video is the Gold Standard video of how to do it.
This is the BEST video for ford rearview mirror removal! Thank you for posting this, you are saving people time and money even 6 years later. I will be following your channel for any future repair needs!!!!!
It's amazing how many times I grab the soapy water bottle. Seems like I refill it a lot, too. it makes a quick, non-greasy lube for plastics...heck, I've used it for lube to press ball joints into control arms. And it's always handy in finding that slow leak in a tire. Top 3 liquids used...PB Blaster, brake cleaner and soapy water! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Just watched this before replacing the rear view mirror on my 2007 Ford F150. Took all of 3 or 4 minutes to complete. Very helpful. Thanks!!
Thanks, Nautical...glad the vid helped. The only thing I wished I had added was to never do this if the windshield is hot from sitting in direct sunlight for a long period of time...it can crack. Thanks for watching!
Just what I needed: starts with a visual of the inner workings, then, explains and shows what needs to happen, and then gives three alternatives to the special tool (I used an open-end wrench, with tape, and it was perfect). Excellent video.
this is the best video I saw on this topic. Looked at a bunch of them. This video gave me confidence to try it WITHOUT ordering a special tool. I used a tack pry puller. Was nervous about cracking the glass, but took it slow as per this video and it came off easily. THANKS !
This my Friend is the PERFECT template for a you tube DYI video. PAY attention people, you make a DIY video, try to attain this quality. Superb view the tools the outside looking in video, GREAT. THANKS
Just a Little Tip: I just removed mine on my 2001 Ford F150, at first I tried it with an Allen Wrench that I had handy, but it was really short and made it difficult to pry the latch, I instead grabbed my longer Pocket Screwdriver and it made easy work of it. So if you have the, try to use a longer Allen Wrench or a Pocket Screw Driver. Also another tip, don't push it all the way up in the mount, just insert it just past the latch and pry there.
Awesome video. I have a Ford Mustang GT that had a screwed up rear view mirror when I purchased it. I was taking it in to get the Windows tinted at a 3M dealership who works with this all the time so I asked them to leave the mirror off when they removed it. When I got back they said they were afraid to take it down that they would break that window. They got me so nervous I was going to bring it to the Ford dealership. I have no mechanical ability but was able to do it with ease thanks to your video. That's what RUclips's all about, helping each other. Thanks again
I have a 2002 f150 with the 4.6L V8. I am mechanical inclined, I figured out how to replace the timing chains, the timing chain guides, the tensioners& gears with ease (after I read & understood where the #1 piston needed to be to keep it in time). I had to put a transmission in the truck 2yrs ago by myself. And I also had a 401 code-which means that there is something wrong with the EGR system that kept my check engine light on, which meant I couldn't pass NJ inspection since I bought it, (4yrs ago) I finally figured out what was wrong and fix it,and I finally passed inspection 👍. Then my side power mirrors didn't work, but I figured that out & fixed it! Then about a week ago my rear view mirror fell off,and for the life of me I COULD NOT figure out how to put it back on 🤔😜! That was until I saw this excellent 👌 video that showed me step by step how to replace it. Now it's back on and I can see the past behind me 😃. Thank You for this excellent video!
Thanks, John...glad the vid helped. The one thing I would add to this video is discouraging someone to do this when the windshield is hot from direct sunlight...it can crack. Thanks for watching!
This is exactly what I needed. 🙏 Thanks. My little girl grabbed onto the mirror and attempted to hang from it and well the mirror popped off the attachment piece. I have a replacement but just didn't know how to get the old part off the base.
That's about as good as an illustration as you can make or get. You made it look so easy, and should take all of about 80 seconds to perform. Thank You !!!
Just what I needed so I wont go messing things up! Extremely well done "How To"... well thought out in advance, no shaky camera, no 'one hand operation' while the other hand operates the camera. Perfect!
Glad the video helped, Ron. The only thing I would've added is that you shouldn't do this when the windshield is really hot (sitting in direct sunlight, during the hottest time of the day). It could crack when it's like that. Thanks, for watching!
Glad the vid helped, Derek. The only thing I would add in this video is to warn people that you should not do this when the windshield is hot from sitting in the sun. Messing with a hot windshield will crack it. Thanks for watching!
Thank you... literally every other video skips removing the mirror from the anchor, and I couldn't figure which way to push to get it off. I didn't want to push too hard and break my windsheild.
Of all the videos I watched, this one was the one made me be able to get my mirror off. Thanks. I don't know if I'd be brave enough to wedge a wrench against the windshield though. I used the screw driver method.
Glad the vid helped you get the mirror fixed, Scott. The only thing I should've added was to never do this if the sun has been beaming on the windshield all day and it's crazy hot...it can crack. This should be done when the windshield is at a reasonable temperature. Thanks for watching!
Yes this video was extremely well done. Wish I had seen this particular video before doing mine as it would have given me more relief. Mine felt like it wasn't going to budge but it did come free. Flexing steel on glass just is not one of those feel good moments. 😁
I just watched this video and wanted to send out a sincere thank you. The video is so well made and detailed. The video takes any guess work out of it. Thank you.
Our mirror fell off in our Focus with backing plate intact. I separated the base plate from the mirror and thought how the Dickins am I going to get that back on. Thanks for this video.
Good luck, Richard! It doesn't take a lot of pressure to pry the base...too much will crack the windshield. Use the soapy water and let it sit a few seconds. Thanks for watching!
Glad it will help. Be careful...you don't need to pry hard. And don't try this if the windshield is hot from sitting in the sun. Wait for things to cool down. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I had a friend that messed his up, so I went to the junk yard to get another. I was looking for a screw or something...took me a while to figure it out. Decided that maybe it'll help someone else out, so I made the video. Thanks for watching, Manic!
Excellent tutorial. This mirror is the same design as on my 2002 F-150. There are a lot of other tutorials for different designs, and there is some bad information also on handling this design. I followed someone's bad direction and removed the black spring clip and am unable to get it back on the mirror arm. Do you know how to replace it without damaging it?
Now how to get the metal part off the windshield and move it higher up ? I also have an escape and my mirror is wayyyy too low down the window for my height
My auto-dimming mirror has etched glass and I plan to replace it with the much cheaper manually dimming Ford OEM mirror at a fraction of the price. Will this send any kind of code to the ECU when I leave the mirror power line disconnected?
I had mine changed twice with windshield replacement and both times I had to take back because the mirror was vibrating/shaking so bad while driving, they fixed it but both times I heard a lot of banging going on on the shop, I think they broke something, anyway why did they not use the simple Allen screw adjustment in there mirrors, so easy to change. 😳👍
No words spoken and yet the most thoroughly explained video on how to remove these rearview mirrors.
I wanted to make videos that work more like a manual, that can be followed to, as opposed to an entertainment video. Thanks for watching!
This video out of all the rest,,(for my vehicle),,was the most helpful!! No body explained like you did and showed how to get back on. 👍
Thank you
Thanks, Joe...glad the vid help. Thanks for watching!

Awesome directions, here in 2024, years after the video was posted. Very helpful compared to the other useless videos.
Thanks a million. 😊
Great video, after 16 years my rear view mirror in my 2007 mustang GT started to de-laminate, the use of dish soap was very helpful.
After watching many videos, yours was the first to clearly illustrate how it attaches.
Thank You
The 13mm open ended wrench with tape method is pure genius and looks to be the most sure-fire method.
Thank you! This is by far the safest and best tutorial on RUclips for this rear mirror. It was super easy to do.
Just what I needed: starts with a visual of the inner workings, then, explains and shows what needs to happen, and then gives three alternatives to the special tool (I used an open-end wrench, with tape, and it was perfect). Excellent video.
Who doesn't like this video? Thank you for the video. It save me a broken windshield

perfect, best repair manual I've ever seen
thanks!
Just what I needed so I wont go messing things up! Extremely well done "How To"... well thought out in advance, no shaky camera, no 'one hand operation' while the other hand operates the camera. Perfect!
Out of the 3 vids I just watched...this one was the one that showed what needed to be seen.
Glad the video helped, Ron. The only thing I would've added is that you shouldn't do this when the windshield is really hot (sitting in direct sunlight, during the hottest time of the day). It could crack when it's like that. Thanks, for watching!
BEST step by step video out there!
Took me about a minute total, because of this!
Thank you!!!
This video is so well made and detailed. The video takes any guess work out of it. Thank you.
This was incredibly helpful! Exactly what I was hoping to find for my 2002 F150's rear view mirror.
Thank you very much!
Glad the vid helped, Derek. The only thing I would add in this video is to warn people that you should not do this when the windshield is hot from sitting in the sun. Messing with a hot windshield will crack it. Thanks for watching!
Excellent vid. Best I've seen on the subject.
Exactly what I needed for my 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty. Done in just a few minutes. Couldn’t have made it any easier!
Your a gentleman and a scholar, thanks!

Great video. Very clear instructions. Thank you. This helped me!
Simple and very easy to grasp and understand. A 5 yr old can do this
Thank you... literally every other video skips removing the mirror from the anchor, and I couldn't figure which way to push to get it off. I didn't want to push too hard and break my windsheild.

Thanks for this video the first one I saw I used little foamy, Dawn dish soap and a small syringe and it just popped right off. Thank you.
Thanks so very much. Your how to with that style mirror click was the only one that matched my mirror on my 2003 F-150.
Great DIY tutorial vid.
Worked like a charm 1st time.
One of the best diy videos I have seen. And I have seen more than most. This video merits a like and subscribe for me.

Greatest instructional video ever! You sir gained a subscriber!
Thank you for this understandable explanation. I'm off to pick n pull tomorrow.
Good luck, Richard! It doesn't take a lot of pressure to pry the base...too much will crack the windshield. Use the soapy water and let it sit a few seconds. Thanks for watching!

Very helpful!! Thank you for a great video!!!
Perfect video. Also same mirror for 2012 Ford Fiesta sedan. Thanks much
excellent job. clear and concise
I know without watching these detailed instructions, I would have either just pulled the whole assembly off or cracked my windshield. Thanks so much.
Yeah, I had a friend that messed his up, so I went to the junk yard to get another. I was looking for a screw or something...took me a while to figure it out. Decided that maybe it'll help someone else out, so I made the video. Thanks for watching, Manic!
me too
Yeah dude knows his shit, and knowledge enough to convey to me, not really mechanically inclined. I did it tho.
Really detailed, preciate it brother
Great instructions!
Excellent vid - great helpful details.
This worked on a transit connect. Thanks
Ford probably used this design on a lot of it's vehicles...and maybe still do! Glad the video helped. Thanks for watching, cheezr!
NICELY explained.......Thanks
Perfect! nice and clear. THANK YOU!
I was saying to myself before looking, that he is probably a glass installer pro.😇
Excellent tutorial. This mirror is the same design as on my 2002 F-150. There are a lot of other tutorials for different designs, and there is some bad information also on handling this design.
