This is probably the third or fourth video I have come across on such repair in which they are all good but yours is the best because you actually perform a stress test on the glued piece. Thank you dear Cheap Wheels.
I think I see some deep thinking in starting this channel, you now have a reason to pick up all sorts of old vehicles so you can keep fixing stuff. Smart guy, it will be interesting to see how many Ford trucks you can end up with before Brooke says anything. Thanks for sharing.
Its Dave - lets see more Dave on Alone! Maybe you are but only just finished season 5. I found it funny I just stumbled on your page while trying to fix my f150 mirror.
Your video was very thorough. I had a problem with removing the mirror from the mounting piece which you referenced it to a Chinese finger trap. Understood and performed the release. Thanks for the video and now that 2..99 Permatex is now 7.99. Nice mark up for a small tube of adhesive.
My mirror in 95 Ranger fell off about 10 days after I first watched video. I did not hesitate to get it fixed. Normally I would have asked several friends what they recommended. Thanks for your helpful videos.
Important to be aware if you have any tint or UV film on the windshield. I’d imagine that most older cars with that style rear view probably don’t, but just a thought. Great video and another cheap and easy fix. Thank you Dave and God bless!
Back around 82 or so I was cleaning out my 74 American Motors rebel station wagon, and I flipped - Frisbee style - an aluminum coke can into the front part of the car (from the rear), and gosh darn it I cracked the front window. Luck of the Irish! Dad bailed me out on that one. Thanks Dad. Bless
@@cheapwheels9828 Around that time my friend Bob mentioned to me that Al Jarreau drove the same car as mine. (Hollywood studio connection). That engine just hummed along, but then the trans went on it.
hey there Dave...you won't believe this but I just bought that same kit to put my rearview mirror back on lol now I don't have to read the instructions thanks for that ;) have a great week & take care
Mine fell off again after 2 years. The product has increased in price so much that a brand new upgraded mirror and mount from LMC Truck is only $3 more than the goo alone. Bought a new mirror instead.
Times have changed since the days of rear view mirror brackets being held on by screws at the top of the windshield/headliner area.......good video on how to address gluing the newer style mirror mount back on! Thanks!
Now, I followed your instructions completely.... lets see how the repair works out long term. I got 5 or more years out of the last repair, but I didn't study before making that fist repair. I squeezed really hard and had way to little glue, left to hold on. One drop with firm pressure 30 seconds to a minute... give it an hour before installing the mirror. The price now in june 2023 is $7.85 for the .." ALL NEW- Permatix EXTREME STRENGTH glue ". A Bargain still, ...when you get your Rear View back.
Almost all reviews for this product at least here in sunny Australia, are 1 star. Users claim that they followed the instructions properly, but the mirror fell off in a week's time anyway. So now I am in two minds. My rear view mirror fell off today and I am looking for a good adhesive.
I have had luck with epoxy for an aftermarket mirror I had installed. Permatex failed twice, once while tightening screw and another in summer heat. Cleaned with windex, heard something about windex leaving a residue?? Last time with epoxy used a 70% IPA wipe, so idk what actually made this thing finally stick.
I’m having a completely different issue because my button is still attached to the windshield itself. I don’t need adhesive because the button has not fallen off and is glued on there super tight. Whenever I click the rearview mirror back onto the button, it will stay there for a few days before it clicks and falls off. What would you suggest in this case?
It's a good thing my van has two rear view mirrors on the doors . . . my dog gets paranoid that I'm keeping an eye on what she's up to back there when we're headed down the road :) (She's probably the one that knocked my mirror off, in the first place!) Thanks for the tips, Dave! See you down the road . . . God Bless
Hey, Dave! Thanks so much for this video! I'm on the verge of cleaning the windshield with the razor blade. I really like the way you explained every step! By the way, is your button still hanging from this application? Thanks, Dave, so much!
Help Dave...that shiny layer of adhesive is all bumpy and still on windshield...I've tried scraping and good off special epoxy remover....won't budge...It's all bumpy...helllllp
Does this kit hold to heat? Mines rear view mirror fell off but it took some of the windshield glass too a small piece. What do you suggest to do? Use epoxy?
You think this can be used to glue any material to glass, not just a METAL button? I'd like to use it to mount a DashCam instead of a suction cup mount.
Does anyone know what the rule for the temperature is? The instructions say 50-75 degrees, but the low in Houston is 78 tonight. I need to get this back on, but I don’t want to mess it up. Any help is appreciated!
I'm predicting Cheap Wheels will have an upcoming episode titled; "How to replace the windshield on an old pickup truck". But maybe that's just me. Another good video Dave, no idea why it didn't pop up in my feed for an entire day though.
Hey Dave ..... I notice in the beginning of the videos and the end I hear the sound of a vehicle running.... and you drive Fords...... neighbors car? I love your videos. God bless
doesn't work. I tried 3 times with different versions of the permatex packaging (maybe indicating different generations) one version of directions said only 30 minutes cure time. tried multiple day cure times. still failed. I tried both on the black thermal coating and straight to glass. nothing held.
